Ray’s Italian Kitchen Update

A message from Ray's Italian Kitchen:

Following the government announcement last night and within the realms of sense & sensibility, I will be continuing a limited service on takeaways this week. I feel a massive sense of community support/spirit is needed to make sure we all come out the other side safely. 

We have many resourceful people in this village and being a village is in our favour I believe. If we all STAY AT HOME we have every fighting chance of keeping ourselves and our vulnerable neighbours/family safe. 

Obviously I will be working alone, therefore I will have limited availability so I am asking that you communicate early so that I can organise logistics and cooking times etc. My partner whom lives with me will be delivering to minimise any element of risk to you or ourselves. 

I, like you have a responsibility to my little boy whom is 7 and my 73-year-old mother who lives in an annex on my house therefore its essential we follow instructions on non-contact deliveries. Where possible leave something for Paul to put your food on or even a plastic box or tray for him to drop into so it’s safe for you to pick up.

On Wednesday I will be concentrating on the vulnerable people (ONLY) in our community. This offering will be from 5pm to 7.30pm. Please call the restaurant between 10am and 12 noon on Wednesday for orders or leave a message on the answer phone and I will contact you on my return. 

On Friday and Saturday I plan to run 5pm till 8pm to those of you who are interested in a night off from cooking. I am conscious that by then you will all be looking forward to having a weekend feel to add some sort of normality to this unprecedented time we find ourselves in. 

Please can you call between 10am and 12 on Friday/Saturday to place your orders or leave a message and I will get back to you on my return. It goes without saying that I will communicate with you if anything changes. 

Next week I will confirm my intentions on what will be on offer, as we all know everything is changing rapidly therefore we just have to wait and see.

Update on Council Services

The New Forest District Council offices are closed as of yesterday evening, so are the public loos! 

Coronavirus: Council Services Updates 

We are continuing to operate essential services and are taking any necessary precautions to keep our customers and staff safe in line with the latest advice from government. 

Monday 23rd March 2020 20:30: The Government has announced from this evening we must stay at home, with a series of closures, and enforcement. We are reviewing the impact on services to our community and we'll be focusing all our efforts on the essential services. Please bear with us while we put our plans in place and check here regularly for information and updates. 

Following Government's stay at home announcement tonight we are stopping all but our critical services. 

- Our offices are now closed until further notice, except for emergency homelessness issues at Appletree Court. 

- Please follow the government instructions to stay at home 

- All public facilities including public toilets and playgrounds are now closed and there will be further announcements about other council services including waste, planning, and housing over the coming days. 

Please help us in this important work by not contacting us unless it is an urgent matter while all our staff focus on these priorities. Thank you for your support.

New Forest Paddle Sports Company goes online

Claire and Sean have been in touch from the The New Forest Paddle Sports Company in Milford on Sea high street.

As of last night they have closed the shop and all on water activities. However, they will still have their online store open with free home delivery for all items and we will be answering any emails or online messaging as soon as possible.

People will be allowed to leave home only for the following reasons:

• One form of exercise a day, such as running or cycling, alone or with household members
• For medical or care needs, for example to help a vulnerable person

Meeting friends, shopping for anything beyond essentials, and gathering in crowds are now banned.

Thank you and temporary goodbye from The Smugglers

A personal message from Suzy, Guy and The Smugglers team:

A sad day for us.

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came to collect the free beer yesterday. The Smugglers Inn and our sister pub in the New Forest have raised £1,185 for Oakhaven Hospice. 

It was a very humbling and emotional experience to see how generous everyone was, and very moving having to say goodbye to our loyal customers. 

It was equally amazing to see how creative people can be when they need to fill up with beer - we had vases, water jugs, and people tipping their water away to fill up with beer. 

We also managed to give away all of our soup! - and we had lots of NHS & key workers visit us and make use of our FREE meal offer. It was great to be able to give them a nice Sunday roast after all their hard work. 

Whilst we have really enjoyed offering our takeaway service, we now need to think of the welfare of our staff and we have made the very difficult decision to cease all trading until further notice. 

We will spend the next day or so ensuring the pubs are cleaned down, all stock removed and left in a position that we can be ready to start up again as soon as it is clear to do so. 

At both of our pubs, we have some vulnerable customers, that we will keep in touch with and ensure they have what they need. 

So it's not goodbye, it's see you later....please stay safe, and look after each other, and we look forward to the time when we can welcome you all back, with what will be open arms and a smile on our faces.

Community Care Group has to suspend service

A message from Milford on Sea Community Care Group:

In an attempt to safeguard our clients and volunteers from the spread of Coronavirus, the CARe GROUP committee has decided to suspend its service until further notice. 

The committee was reluctant to take this unprecedented measure (the first in 40 years) and apologises for the inconvenience this causes. 

The welfare of the 60 volunteers involved in its operation must be prioritised, in order to resume the transport service offered to local residents, as soon as it is safe to do so. 

Please do not telephone the emergency out of hours number shown on your information cards, as this must be maintained for private use only.

Community Helping Community: Update 1

The fast growing Milford on Sea Covid 19 Mutual Aid Facebook group have published an update with some interesting local village information. The page is run by Jenny Whitley and other local residents who want to make sure we all work as a community to get through this together.

There are 284 members on the group now, and this Facebook page is, and is going to be, a great source of live information of what is happening in the village and for anyone to request support.

If you have children home from university or older teenagers off school, please get them involved if they would like to.

Hopefully in the coming weeks the members will grow into the thousands. Have you joined yet?

Keep Moving - Pilates with Denise

Even though the doors are closed - our hearts are open. We want to thank everyone for supporting us over the recent weeks and all the long years we have been here. We have the most amazing customers and even more amazing staff - and we will be back open fully as soon as it is safe and advised to do so.

In the meantime we would like to let you know of the following: 

FREE SOUP

We always have lots of soup available, and we will be making more over the next few days.  We would like anyone who needs it to come and collect some for free. We would ideally like this to go to the vulnerable and elderly. So if you know of someone - or if you need it please bring a container and we will fill it. We can supply hot or cold. Please be responsible and we will give out reasonable amounts to people. This is FREE - but we will be have a charity box out for Oakhaven Hospice - so a donation would be appreciated - but not necessary.

FREE MEALS TO NHS, EMERGENCY & KEY WORKERS

At times like this we rely on a special group of people to go and do what some of us would not dare to. We want to say thank you - and we will provide a FREE meal to anyone who brings in their NHS or Carer badge or equivalent. This is not food that is going to waste - it is fresh and off our menu. One meal per person per day.

FREE BEER

Yes ! if you've read this far then you deserve a beer. We have Real Ale that we will not sell, and we do not like waste. So we will give you FREE BEER a maximum of 8 pints per person. Please call the pub - and book your beer . One visit per day per person until its gone. This is FREE - but we will be have a charity box out for Oakhaven Hospice - so a donation would be appreciated - but not necessary.

TAKE AWAY FOOD

We will be offering our full menu as a take away while stocks last. So please call us - ideally we would like you to bring a plate or container and we will plate is up for you. Take away orders at 25% discount. Simply call 01590 644414 and we will do whatever we can to keep you fed.

Wine & Beers delivered by The Cave

Now that our village pubs, bars cafes and restaurants are now closed, a good number of us will still need a few drinks to get us through!

To get us drinkers through, The Cave will be open as an off-licence, with a delivery service, trading 7 days a week from Monday 23rd March. 

They are able to provide wine, beers, spirits and even some bar snacks.

Opening times will be from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Sunday with a Free Local Delivery Service available from 5pm to 7pm daily.

Coronavirus Message from Dr David Badham

We have been contacted by Dr David Badham, former Milford GP and he has the following message for us all:

Dear David, 

I am writing to say that we must follow the Government guidelines to the letter. A number of people seem to be treating them as recommendations. In particular many over 70s are still going shopping. 

Over 70s, people with significant illnesses, and pregnant ladies should all self isolate. 

This means staying at home, though you can be in the garden if you have one, and not having any contact with delivery people. They should be asked to leave the parcel at the door and ring the bell to indicate delivery. 

In particular shopping on line and by phone are recommended. 

The reason China brought about control to massive outbreak was that they locked down major cities, and forced people to stay indoors. We are a democratic country, and strong recommendations have been made but the are not enforced. However we should treat them as mandatory. 

We are tremendously lucky in Milford that the local shops will deliver as well as all the restaurants, pubs and cafes so there really is no reason to go shopping. Stay safe, and keep others safe, and go for a walk on the cliffs or pleasure gardens instead - keeping your distance from other people of course.

St George’s Nursing Home seek volunteers

St George’s Nursing Home in De La Warr Road, Milford on Sea are hoping to generate a list of volunteers who might be able to help if we have a staff crisis due to the Coronavirus. 

Wendy Hinchcliffe, manager at St George's said: At St Georges we are taking every precaution possible to avoid being affected by the Coronavirus. However we are looking at contingency planning in the event that our workforce gets significantly affected, and how we can continue to provide the level of care we need to our residents. We may need to have a back-up plan and were wondering if anyone in the wider community may consider volunteering. I would welcome a chat on 01590 648068."

Churches in Milford on Sea

As a result of the current Coronavirus outbreak, All Saints' Church, along with other churches around the UK and abroad has sadly had to take the unheard of step of cancelling its regular Sunday and other services. 

However, as a church building we remain open daily from 9am to 4pm for all who wish to find a quiet place of prayer and meditation. Weekly information sheets will be available in the church or, better still, can be accessed alongside recorded talks, prayers, a daily Bible text and other resources from the church website www.allsaintsmilford.co.uk.

A National day of prayer for the global pandemic of coronavirus has been organised for all churches for this Sunday as hundreds cancel services and move online. Click here for more information.

A group called Churches Together in England has called for churches to get behind it by lighting candles at 7pm on Sunday. 

The group's presidents are the Archbishop Justin Welby, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Revd Dr Hugh Osgood (The Free Churches Moderator), Archbishop Angaelos of London (the Orthodox Church) and Pastor Agu Irukwu, the Pentecostal representative.
