Music & Arts Festival Fundraiser

We normally avoid featuring events in this news bulletin as they are all covered in Milford on sea Calendar: www.milfordonseacalendar.org

However, one of the gems of Milford on Sea is the Music & Arts Festival, and we like to support them whenever we can.

On the 6th April a fun fundraising evening is being held at the Community Centre and you might like to go along.

Here is how the event is described: "Join us and dress up in you best frocks and tails (or not) and be transported back in time for a fabulous evening of 1920's fun. With canapés and cocktails, ragtime music and a casino there will be something for everybody. Afterwards, the Polly Morris comedy band will lift your spirits even higher as you laugh your way through the buffet. Then, it’s time for the grand finale watching the Braces and Laces troop dazzle you with their fancy footwork which you can take on board for dancing the rest of the night away with the FB Pocket Orchestra who will take you back to the hot jazz, blues, ragtime & popular dances of the 1920/30s & earlier.

It is set to be a fun filled evening, so don’t miss out, book your tickets today at the MOS Community Centre ticket office”

Donation to Community First Responders from The Cave

The Cave wine shop & bar in Church Hill, Milford on Sea prides itself on being a part of the community so, for this New Year, owner/manager John Crouch created a huge prize hamper of products from the bar and shop and all the staff joined in to sell as many raffle tickets as they possibly could.

When the raffle was drawn, their efforts had raised nearly £300 which they donated to the Milford on Sea Community First Responders. Conrad Curtis and John Blessing visited to receive the cheque and thank John and his team for their splendid efforts.

Community First Responders (CFRs) are volunteers who operate as part of South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) and receive funding only though charitable donations from the community. Training is provided by SCAS and CFRs can find themselves being deployed to a range of incidents from falls to heart attacks, strokes and breathing difficulties.

The idea being that because they live in the community they can get to an incident very quickly when time is of the essence. Conrad Curtis said “we are really rather grateful to the efforts of John and his team. Kitting out a CFR is a significant outlay but it genuinely saves lives.” Milford CFRs are looking for new recruits so if you would like to know more why not call us on 01590 644393. You can make a difference.

About the Milford on Sea Community Responders

Milford on Sea has an established Community First Responders group which was established in 2017.

The Community First Responders support the South Central Ambulance Service and get deployed to appropriate emergency calls in the village. All are volunteers who donate their time and expertise for free. The group has been founded by Ross Woolgar, Terri Newton and Conrad Curtis.

The advantage of Community First Responders is that in many cases they can get there before the paramedics and commence life saving emergency treatment at the earliest opportunity, which significantly improves patients chances of survival.

The Appetite Kitchen at Holland's of Milford

Jason & Adie, from Appetite for Adventure and Milford on Sea food company, have their own range of chutneys, relishes etc. under their own brand: 'The Appetite Kitchen.'

Last week Paul and Maureen at Holland’s of Milford started to stock the brand and Adie and his team are delighted.

Appetite for Adventure are also local caterers and keen supporters of local producers and suppliers. As caterers they work with a lot of charities, locally and nationally and have some very exciting events coming up where they are travelling further afield, taking local produce with them and championing the New Forest.

They are also very proud and active members of the New Forest Marque and Adie is actually on the Board of the Marque doing whatever she can in any spare time to help their partners across many different categories.

Adie also set up “The New Forest Hamper Company” a couple of years ago, again to team up with other local producers of many different items across food, drink, craft and pampering and it’s been really well received. Ultimately the guys at Appetite for Adventure are keen to encourage people to support local –and their strapline is “Every Purchase Supports A Local Producer”.

To find out more, please visit their website below, or pop into Holland's to try some of their locally made produce.

Bringing History Home

On 25th January at the AGM of the Milford-on-Sea Historical Record Society [MOSHRS] chairman, Chris Hobby, announced the start of Bringing History Home.

This is an initiative aimed at encouraging the local community to find out and contribute to our rich heritage.

Chris Sanders presented an early view of the new website which will carry the catalogue for the archive of over 8,000 records which the Society manages. The initiative will include telling the history of houses around the parish, setting out history trails and encouraging local organisations, groups, clubs and businesses to add their history records to the archive.

MOSHRS has been awarded an £8,700 Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant, made possible through money raised by National Lottery players, together with contributions from the Parish Council and from MOSHRS itself.

“We are delighted to have received the support of National Lottery players as well as our Parish Council. We look forward to Bringing History Home to all our community.” Chris Hobby, chairman of MOSHRS.

About Bringing History Home

Bringing History Home focuses on making over 100 years of local records readily accessible to the community of Milford-on-Sea as well as for those around the world who have connections with Milford-on-Sea. Talks and displays will be used to familiarise our community with on-line access to Milford-on-Sea Historical Record Society catalogue using the new website. Local organisations will have the opportunity to learn about our archive, how to access it and how to contribute to it. the Milford-on-Sea Historical Record Society website will provide downloadable guides for locally important historical buildings and trails.

All those interested in being part of this exciting initiative starting early in 2018 should contact Chris Sanders at chris@moshrs.org.uk.
