Milford RNLI Launch Programme of Events

Anyone that is already a member of the Milford on Sea branch of the RNLI will know it is a very active and social group who raise funds for a worthy cause whilst having a good time.

Below is their list of events for 2018, and if you would like to join, membership is just £5 per household.

Milford Gardeners' Club Publishes 2018 Programme

Milford Gardeners' Club have published their Programme for 2018.

The club meets on Wednesday evenings at 7pm (unless otherwise stated) at All Saints Church Hall, Greenbanks Close, Milford on Sea, SO41 0SD. New members are always warmly welcomed.

Milford Bauble Competition Winners

Six budding artists from Milford on Sea Primary School can look forward to extra presents this Christmas after winning a competition to design a festive bauble for a local estate agents.

Collins & Butler set youngsters the challenge of creating a unique festive decoration to adorn their office Christmas tree for a chance to win a selection of toy vouchers.

Jason Withers, of Collins & Butler, said: “Altogether we had around 50 baubles created by the children and we were very impressed with the standard of entries. It was a very difficult job choosing the winning six designs.”

The competition was run in two sections for infant and junior-aged children, with three prizes of £50, £25 and £15 in each group. 

The winners were Martha Morley, India Vane, Jodie Back, Frances Waters, Gabriella Nicholson and Elsie Smith.

Saltwater Cafe in Milford on Sea High Street will be open on Boxing Day from 9am to 1pm.

Why not pop in for a tasty breakfast, morning coffee with a treat, or a light lunch.

What can be better than a wander around the village after the Christmas festivities, the exercise will be just what is needed after Christmas Day!

Verveine Cookbook Coming

It has long been an ambition of David Wykes, the exceptionally talent Chef/Patron at Verveine to write his very own cookbook

We have spotted on social media that David is now looking publish his first book with specialist book publisher RMC Media in mid-May 2018.

The exact concept is being kept secret for now, but rumour has it that this will be a real eye-catcher - and we have no doubt that demand will be high to discover just how he works his magic!

Milford Festival Seeks Volunteers

The organisers of the annual Milford Arts & Music Festival are once again planning this fabulous event for the village. Every year this event offers an opportunity for young and old to connect over their shared love of music and art.

The theme for 2018 is "The year of the poppy" in remembrance of the centenary of the first world war.

This year the festival plans to include poetry, talks, readings, music, comedy, and a new kids area, but to do this, the committee we will need all the help that it can get. 

They are also in need of some storage space for a few festival items, if you have a space or know of any, or would like to help out in the organisation in any way, please email, volunteers@milfordfestival.org.uk.

Pop up Restaurant Evenings at Hurst on the Hill

I know, I know, we don't do advert or events on the news. But I'm a bloke and therefore inconsistent, as well as easily swayed when it comes to food!

Young and talented Head Chef at Hurst on the Hill, Jesse Wells will be demonstrating his passion for food by creating delicious dishes at his Hurst on the Hill Pop Up Restaurant Evenings below.

All evenings are BYO, so grab a bottle (or two!) and make sure you book early to secure your place.

Saturday 9th December from 7pm - Smokehouse Night

A three-course, good old American south Smokehouse Night. Lovingly slow-cooked meats infused with tone and flavour to give that distinctive smoky taste, plus amazing sides and dessert.

Wednesday 13th December 7pm - Take the stress out of Christmas Lunch Masterclass
A two-hour interactive, tasting lesson from Head Chef, Jesse. He’ll share his top tips on how to prep before Christmas Day Lunch, the perfect gravy and create some delicious alternatives to the traditional accompaniments.

A Concord Connection in Milford

Village resident Sally Armstrong is appearing on Channel 5 in the second part of a two part series on Concorde next Monday at 9pm.

Sally worked on the aircraft for 7 years and have made several TV appearances mainly because of the book she has written called ‘Vintage Champagne on the Edge of Space’, which is about her life on that wonderful aircraft.

Gold and Diamond Hoop Earring Found

One of our readers have found a rather nice (and potentially valuable) gold and diamond hoop earring with a makers mark.in Milford on Sea.

The earring was found near the seafront. Yasmin knows exactly where, and will need to be told for the owner to identify ownership.
