Update on welcoming Newcomers to Milford

Dear Newcomers Exhibitors and Milford folk,

Well as you can imagine we will not be doing a Newcomers Supper this year. I thought about doing an exhibition on the Green and tried to think of ways to welcome Newcomers to the village but as things stand it is not possible.

So perhaps next Spring we could have a Newcomers Event which might not be a supper. With the various estates being built in the village and quite a lot of sales of houses plus the extra time between Newcomers events I am thinking we may have too many people to accommodate for a supper. We might just go for an exhibition of clubs and activities people might like to join - using both the church and the hall so you can have as much space as you need.

However I do need to know what you think about this idea please?

I have advertised for several years for volunteers to run this event with me, with the view of taking it over in a year or two, but have not had any offers so perhaps it is time to change how we welcome newcomers to the village or maybe have a break from tradition and drop the supper. It seems that younger people don't have the time to help run clubs yet they want what the clubs offer. Look at the RNLI where would the sailors in our community be without the wonderful service the RNLI offers? Yet our local branch has struggled to get anyone willing to be on a committee.

If there is anyone out there who would like to help with welcoming the Newcomers to the village just give me a call 01590 641875 or click here to contact.

I would welcome any ideas you have so we still make Milford a lovely place to live and welcome newcomers to this friendly and vibrant village

With best wishes, Stay safe and well.

Update on welcoming Newcomers to Milford

We have received the message below from Ruth Bufton, who for many years has selflessly organised and run the Newcomers Supper each year.

Community Centre celebrates 10 years in current building

Milford on Sea Community Centre are celebrating their 10th Anniversary in its current building.

Of course they cannot have the usual gatherings to celebrate, but the Trustees have come up with a souvenir, a challenge and an appeal, all in a celebratory spirit, naturally.

10th Anniversary Booklet

A potted history of the past 10 years with contributions from some of those who set up the original Centre in 2007 and those who oversaw the creation of the current building in 2010.

Plus some volunteers’ memories and appreciation of the Centre. This will be available from the Charity Shop and the Centre (mornings only) and some other local outlets (to be confirmed – check our website for latest info). It is priced 50p.

Decade 10x Challenge

Open to all ages, the Challenge is to make something with 10 items or do something 10 times.

This may be making 10 Anniversary cupcakes, or dancing for 10 mins, running/walking for 10km or 10 miles, doing 10 press-ups, making a flower arrangement using 10 flowers/plants, composing a 10-line poem, writing down 10 memorable events you have attended at the Centre during the past decade, or anything else that inspires you!

All we need is a photograph, or sheet of paper for written material, which will then put on the website.

At the end of September, the Trustees will select two winners – under and over 16 years old, who will receive a special prize – please send your entries marked “Challenge” to trustees@moscommunitycentre.org.uk or if on paper, pop it in an envelope and post through the Centre’s letterbox.

It is hoped that this challenge will be fun and will inspire residents of Milford on Sea and the surrounding area.

“£10 for 10” Appeal

If you have visited the Centre in the past decade, you are asked to consider making a £10 donation towards the next 10 years, hopefully all virus-free. Please click here to donate, or put your donation in an envelope and post through the Centre’s letterbox. Thank you in anticipation!

Book your Flu Jab today

The flu season is fast approaching, and it is particularly important this year that as many people as possible receive the flu jab. Below is a copy of an email sent to all Milford and Wistaria patients who have signed up to receive email regarding the over 65 vaccinations.

----------------------------------------------

You are now able to book you flu appointment – please check the table below before booking. All patients can attend either site, Wistaria or Milford.

If possible, please book your appointment online using your Patient Access account – this will help take the pressure off reception at this busy time of the year.

If you cannot use your online access account for any reason we would prefer you to email the Surgery for an appointment at this busy time - whccg.wistariapractice@nhs.net. Alternatively you can call for an appointment - please phone 01590 643022 (preferably in the afternoon) and press option 0 to be taken through to our dedicated flu line.

Before you attend you should read the patient information leaflet for the vaccine which is available online as we are not able to hand out laminated sheets this year. Visit our new website www.wistariaandmilford.nhs.uk/flu to find links to these leaflets.
