Kindness from Pleasure Grounds to Southampton

For those that don't follow the 'We love Milford on Sea' Facebook page, this recent post demonstrates one man's exceptionally good deed for the day:

Post: To the lovely man who found my daughters purse in the Pleasure Grounds and drove it all the way to Southampton to return it to her. She sends her very grateful thanks...

Reply: I hope the gentleman sees this! We were in the pleasure gardens and he was asking us if we had seen your daughter. He was so caring and so concerned and had been looking for 30 minutes when we met him! What a star!

We also hope the gentleman sees this and knows that his generosity of spirit is admired by many.

A knitted celebration to raise smiles at Christmas

It is very rare that we post any articles that are not directly related to Milford on Sea, but this Christmas idea deserves sharing.

In Guildford, every year a group of volunteers knit Christmas characters and tie them to a railing with a laminated sign inviting people to help themselves.

This simple and generous idea creates a festive display, delights children, raises a smile and brightens many peoples day.

Wouldn't it be great to see something similar on the bridge in Sea Road or somewhere else suitable?

If anyone takes this concept on, please let me know at:

PS: We could also invite people to join a 'Knitting Ninja Group' if someone was happy to co-ordinate a group of festive knitters?

PPS: We might even be able to find a sponsor if buying the wool is an issue. If that's the case, let me know and we can see if we can find someone help.

PPPS: If you would like to sponsor the 'Knitting Ninja Group', please let me know.

We also arrange social events for ourselves such as golf, rock climbing and go-karting. Get in touch and we'll give that elf a home.

New Gym & Fitness Centre in the village

Well when I say new, according to their website The Unit (Fitness centre & gym) has actually been in the village since April 2021 - but I've only just heard about it!

The Unit is a boutique training facility in Laundry Lane, right in the heart of Milford on Sea.

The team are dedicated to developing the community’s fitness and they believe that everyone can be fitter, stronger and in turn happier through exercise. So, they have created a facility to turn that belief into reality.

All abilities are welcome. The trainers can tailor each session to an individuals level with the aim to gain improvement week on week.

Their Programmed Group Classes consist of a daily WOD (Workout of the day) inspired by cross training. You can expect ‘METCONs’ (Metabolic conditioning), ‘EMOMs’ (Every minute on the minute) and ‘AMRAPs’ (As many rounds as possible) as standard. These workouts combine high intensity training with strength movements.

The Programmed Group Classes run from Monday to Friday starting at 6.30am or 7.30am and there are evening sessions at 5.30pm or 6.30pm.

On Sunday Morning at 8am they hold a Weekend Bootcamp.

They also offer Open Gym Sessions on selected dates for those happy to do their own training.

Pay as you go sessions are: £10 or if booked through the app; £40 for 5 sessions.

‘A Christmas To Remember’

The Community Centre is delighted to present a real treat for Christmas Eve.

Colin Judson is back for a Christmas Special together with two wonderful singers and accompanied by the brilliant Richard Black.

Colin, as we all know (and love), is a Milford resident who so kindly brings his magic to the village and for this concert he is joined by mezzo soprano Helen Evora and soprano Claire Rutter, both of whom are delighted to celebrate Christmas Eve with us.

Helen completed her music studies at Trinity College of Music, London, and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she received full scholarships.   Helen is a member of the Opera North Chorus, and has covered and performed numerous roles for the company. Most recently she played Countess Charlotte in A Little Night Music in the Opera North / Leeds Playhouse co-production; covered the role of Dinah in Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti and performed the role of Mercedes Carmen in Opera North's new production.  Her forthcoming performances include further appearances as Mercedes in Carmen early next year; and Flowermaiden Parsifal in June 2022.

Renowned and critically acclaimed soprano Claire was born in South Shields, of Scottish Norwegian descent, and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and National Opera Studio, sponsored by English National Opera. She won YCAT (Young Concert Artists’ Trust) among several other leading opera prizes. She has sung title and lead roles worldwide at esteemed opera houses including most recently at Sydney Opera House and Dallas Opera.

Following many cancellations last year due to Covid Claire looks forward to returning to the opera stage in February 2022 with Wagner’s Die WalkĂĽre for Icelandic Opera, and to the concert platform for concerts and recitals in the U.K. including Cheltenham Festival, Swindon Recital Series and the Sherborne Abbey Festival.

Colin Judson has a busy forthcoming year as one of the most sought after character tenors of his generation.  He is a regular at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, English National Opera, The Glyndebourne Festival, Glyndebourne on tour and Garsington opera.

Next season Colin will travel to Opera Bastille, Paris, to sing the funeral director in Leonard Bernstein’s A Quiet Place. He will return to the Glyndebourne Festival and tour for The Marriage of Figaro, fly to Berlin for a recording of Tosca and then return to London for Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Christmas Lights & Carols on the Green

A forest of enchanted trees is set to spring up on the Milford on Sea village green next week, ahead of the official switching on of the festive lights. The Carols on the Green event returns this year on Friday 3rd December from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

Village Shops will remain open until 7.30pm that evening and refreshments will be available from local businesses. A road closure from 4.30pm to 7.30pm (High Street; Boots to the Coastal Bakery) will be in place, with Marshalls diverting traffic accordingly.

A live band will perform from 5.30pm, followed by festive songs and then the Traditional Carol Service featuring local churches with music courtesy of The Total Voice Choir, from 6pm to 6.30pm.

To join in the carols please click here to download the Carol Song Sheet.

This year’s main sponsor; Suzie from The Smugglers Inn, will officially switch on the Christmas lights at around 5.30pm that evening.

This year’s seasonal illuminations have been masterminded by Christmas loving duo Tracy Haupt and Diana Brushwood, who have been busy transforming Milford on Sea's village green since 2019 with support from local artists, crafting groups and volunteers.

This year Tracy and Diana have been working really hard to make sure the display is the most spectacular so far. The project has grown each year and is now a year round job, planning everything and getting organised for December.

Last year people loved the small forest of trees, but asked to see even more trees and more lights, so this has been the main focus of the vision for 2021’s display.

A collection of bicycle wheel wreathes will again be used to decorate the Sea Road bridge and hand crafted decorations will feature on benches, poles, litter bin tops, post box and telephone box and bollards.

Keen to add more to this year’s display, the ladies have added additional characters to the life-sized nativity scene with additional contributions from local artist Gillian Key and Richard Wadley another local artist, has kindly provided more of the hand-painted supersized greetings cards on The Smuggler’s Inn fence.

A village wide Nativity Story Trail is also set to be launched with a number of shops and businesses taking part. Families are encouraged to sign up to receive a trail map, which will enable them to track down the various characters from the nativity story, for the chance to claim a gift at the Christmas Eve Crib service. To take part, participants must sign up and register at the All Saints Milford on Sea Facebook Page (click here) or by contacting the church office on 01590 644992.

This year, Tracy and Diana have been thrilled to received such a great response from local businesses by way of sponsorship, and are grateful of the help from valuable volunteers. They send their thanks to everyone who has been involved.

Should anyone wish to make a donation, please visit the Milford Magical Christmas fundraising page: by clicking here. To date, donations are at £795 against a target of £1,000.

Enjoy a Magical Milford Christmas!
