Donations still urgently needed for Ukraine

New Forest for Ukraine CIC have just celebrated delivering 50 vans of aid directly to refugees in Poland and Ukraine. The operation is run entirely by a network of volunteers who collect, sort and pack donations, load vans, as well as driving the aid to Poland. The team also makes improvised medical trauma kits with over 2,000 of these life-saving items being delivered into Ukraine.

DONATIONS STILL NEEDED

The team includes Ukrainians and Polish nationals who have settled in the UK. Using their network in their home country they have set up a direct supply route to ensure all the aid gets directly to people who need it. So far over £1 million pounds worth of donations have been delivered. John Stanton (Lead Coordinator) said ‘The shipment of our 50th truck of general aid along with 2,000 improvised trauma kits is a huge milestone for our team. It couldn’t have been achieved without the on-going support of the wonderful people in the New Forest and further afield. Each truck is not only very much needed humanitarian aid it is also a sign of affinity with the Ukrainian people and what they are going through’.

Unfortunately, the flow of donations is slowing up whilst the need for support is increasing. With the onset of winter as well as the on-going atrocities of the war, there continues to be millions of displaced Ukrainians who need our support. There continues to be people arriving in Poznan needing basic supplies whilst the people around Kharkiv have lost everything and are in urgent need of direct support. Temperatures will drop to minus 40 in Poland and Ukraine meaning the need for support is greater now than ever before.

The priority items include food, toiletries, infant supplies, pet supplies, bedding and clean, warm, winter clothing. These donations can be dropped-off at the Saltwater Café or the Community Centre in Milford on Sea as well as across the New Forest where they will be collected and taken to the main hub in Lymington before shipment directly to Poznan in Poland and Kharkiv, Berdyansk or Lyubar in Ukraine.

New Forest for Ukraine is looking for more support from volunteers to help in areas ranging from new collection points, transportation of aid, sorting aid and making improvised trauma packs. Any support is most welcome and every bit helps in supporting the Ukrainian people.

New Retail Shop in village

Milford on Sea Community Centre have made an announcement about launching a new retail shop in the village:

Milford on Sea Community Centre has acquired a lease on these premises to operate a new retail shop at 78 High Street, formerly Milford Travel.

All the profits of which will be donated to the Community Centre. This is a key part of funding our aims to continue to grow the Centre’s activities and facilities for the local community.

Our existing charity shop will remain open (‘Village Charity Shop’ on Church Hill). This site has contributed significant profits over the last 12 years to the Community Centre, helping with operating costs, enabling us to run community activities, and paying for investment in our facilities. The charity shop income has been instrumental in us growing to provide the broad range of activities, events and community services that we do today.

The Community Centre Trustees believe that we need to evolve how our charity shop looks and operates to continue to deliver funds to the Centre for the next 10 years, during which time we hope to announce plans to expand the Centre’s facilities to meet the needs of the growing population of Milford on Sea.

This shop will be smart, presentable and sell a range of quality donated goods at attractive prices.

We aim to open sometime in December.

Last Milford on Sea Town Tour of 2022

Last chance to do the Lymington Town Tours 'The Story of Milford' local history walk this year.
  • This Sunday: 9th OctoberMeet on the village green at 11am.
  • Voluntary donation of £5 per adult (children go free) for each walker.
The Story of Milford Walk - a guided walk featuring the local history of Milford on Sea.

Daisy Diadem of
Newlands Manor
The old hamlet of Milford was mentioned in the Domesday Book: a few houses around a green and a watermill, having about 50 inhabitants. Nothing changed very much for centuries until the late Victorian age, when it decided to change its image.

Stroll through the village of Milford-on-Sea and its lovely wooded Pleasure Grounds while your guide relates how the sleepy hamlet of Milford tried to live down its smuggling days and changed its name to try to rival genteel Eastbourne. Hear the story of the string of pearls seven yards long.

This walk starts on the Village Green and finishes on the cliff top at the Beach House.

NOTE: This is a longer walk than the normal tour length,, taking about 1¾ hours and including some footpaths. The footpath by the Mill Pond and woods are unsuitable for wheelchairs.

About Lymington Town Tours

A not-for-profit organisation of volunteer guides with a common interest in the local history of the area. To help with admin costs a donation of £5 is requested for each adult walker (school age children go free).

Walking Tours can be seen at: www.lymington-town-tours.co.uk

If you fancy becoming a guide yourself (unpaid obviously) then they would really like to hear from you!

Milford on Sea Newcomers Evening welcome

The Milford on Sea Newcomers Exhibition & Supper was a great success last Saturday.

lyrics of
Milford on Sea
Song
Once again the long-term organiser of this popular annual event, Ruth Bufton along with her team of enthusiastic volunteers welcomed over 200 new residents to Milford on Sea and gave them all a true appreciation of the warm community they have joined.

The day's events were possible because of many helpers, cooks and washer uppers from the 4 village church congregations and village volunteers.

The evening entertainment also featured dancers from NJ Dance and music from the singers of Straight Banana.

During the evening all newcomers were given an information bag which contained details of Milford on Sea Clubs, Societies, Classes, Charities and Events to let people know what goes on in the village, as well as things that people can join in with or support.

Local HHC and New Forest District councillor, Fran Carpenter was a guest and commented online:
"A lovely lady called Ruth and her husband organise a yearly ‘village newcomers’ event for recent residents to Milford On Sea. Local organisations exhibit their activities all day, followed by a meal in the evening. I was privileged to attend yesterday and meet what must have been 200+ new residents. Wow, what a great day and evening. True community spirit. Milford even has a village song! Thank you to Ruth and all the organisers."

Ruth sends her thanks to all newcomers that came and to the many people who helped make the day such an enjoyable success.

To see the Milford on Sea Village Song in full flow; please click image below.

PS: The evening had been preceded by an Exhibition in All Saints' Church where newcomers and all village residents were invited to meet and discover many activities to enjoy or join in with, such as: Milford on Sea Clubs, Societies, Classes, Charities and Events.
