Ever wondered what the Milford on Sea Historical Record Society do?

As you may expect, the Milford on Sea Historical Record Society (MOSHRS) play a pivotal role in researching and documenting all aspects of the village history.

However, for members at just £10 annually, there are lots of interesting talks taking place at the meetings in All Saints' Church Hall during the year.

Each meeting contains an interesting historical talk and the opportunity to meet people from across the village. There is also an annual visit to a place of interest.

At the last meeting, which was a full house, there was a powerful MOSHRS Talk, Armada On Our Shores, by Philip St. Lawrence.

MOSHRS have the following events coming up soon:

FoSH Talk: Thursday 16th May 2024:
HMS Agamemnon: Navigating the Legend at The Gates Hall, Lymington Community Centre, SO41 9BQ.

A talk by Mary Montagu-Scott on behalf of Friends of Sir Harry. www.friendsofsirharry.org

Mary Montagu-Scott, director of the Buckler’s Hard Maritime Museum will tell the story of Lord Nelson’s favourite ship, built and launched in 1781 and after a very distinguished 28-year Naval service record, including the Battle of Trafalgar, ended up wrecked in 1809 on the River Plate off Uruguay.

Tickets: £6 for FoSH Members and £7 for Guests. Please click here.

MOSHRS Talk: Thursday 30th May 2024:
The Durotriges Project.

A fascinating subject presented by Paul Cheetham of Bournemouth University. The Durotriges Project is an intensive, multi-disciplinary investigation into the prehistoric and Roman societies of central southwestern Britain.

MOSHRS Talk: Thursday 11th July 2024:
Roman Villa & Museum, and Breamore Estate Visit.

Rockbourne Roman Villa is a unique archaeological site and museum, situated in a peaceful part of Hampshire near the historic town of Fordingbridge, on the edge of the New Forest.

Here you can walk amongst the remains of the largest known villa complex in the area, which once stood in the centre of a large farming estate. Its history spans the period from the Iron Age to the 5th century AD. The villa site includes the remains of bath houses, living quarters, farm buildings and workshops.
