Milford School Big Bash

Its that time of year again when the current crop of pupils from Milford Primary School move onto secondary school. Each year the PFA do an amazing job of organising a 'Big Bash' to celebrate their time at MOSPS as well as giving them a truly memorable send off with each receiving a hoody to remember their time there.

The PFA and parents need to raise around £3000 to make this possible. In years gone by there have been many local residents and businesses that have kindly contributed to the Big Bash and again they are trying to raise funds to meet the costs.

The Milford Primary School PFA have set up a just giving page that local residents and businesses can donate to, to ensure that despite the pandemic the current crop of pupils can really enjoy their Big Bash!

To donate; please click here. Any donations towards it would be very gratefully received by the PFA and Pupils.

First Friday Lunch in aid of Primary School

July's First Friday Lunch on Friday 1st July and is in aid of Milford-on-Sea C.E Primary School.

The organisers commented: We are currently fundraising for many different projects but the money raised at the lunch will go towards funding a small interactive whiteboard and trolley

The unit will be predominantly used in the HIVE Learning Centre, which is now being accessed by 56 children across the school offering tailored curriculum for pupils on the SEND register and also interventions for other children - catch up, speech and language, handwriting, social skills and positive mental health.

This would allow these children a chance to benefit from technology and interactive display that is in all other classrooms. By having a smaller screen, on a height adjustable, wheelie trolley, we can also be flexible with this resource and use it for other groups around the school (interventions in the hall, the breakfast area and even to use in the staffroom for briefings, governor meetings and meetings with external visitors).

Basically, a great flexible learning tool that all pupils and staff will benefit from.

No need to book, just go along and enjoy a delicious 2 course homemade lunch of Cottage Pie and Pudding for only £7.

The lunch will also feature lots of fantastic raffle prizes and music from the children of Milford-on-Sea Primary School.

Support Milford on Sea School Big Bash

It's that time of year again when the current crop of pupils from Milford on Sea Primary School move onto secondary school. Each year the Parent & Friends Association (PFA) do an amazing job of organising a 'Big Bash' to celebrate their time at MOSPS as well as giving them a truly memorable send off with each receiving a hoody to remember their time there.

This of course means that the PFA and parents need to raise around £3000 to make this possible. In years gone by there have been many local residents and businesses that have kindly contributed to the Big Bash and again they are trying to raise funds to meet the costs.

The PFA have set up a Just Giving page where local residents and businesses can donate to ensure the current crop of pupils can really enjoy their Big Bash after living through the disruption of their schooling throughout the pandemic!

Spectacle Recycling in Milford on Sea

The Becton & District Rotary Club (who have many members in Milford on Sea) are part of a scheme to recycle unwanted spectacles for use in currently mainly African countries where eye care is either prohibitively expensive for the majority of their citizens or non-existent.

In Milford on Sea their are distinctive collection bins located in the Cat & Kitten Charity Shop and Boots The Chemist. Other collection points have also been set up in New Milton & Lymington.

If you have unwanted spectacles please drop them in any of the collection boxes and Becton Rotary will do the rest. By doing so you will be part of a scheme that could improve the sight of desperate individuals enabling them to support their families.

Keyhaven Artists' Summer Exhibition

The annual Art Exhibition in the Keyhaven Scout Hut is will open every day 10am to 4pm from Friday 19th August until the last day on Bank Monday 29th August. (The Scout Hut is in the car park opposite The Gun Inn pub, SO41 0TP).

It is probably no surprise that the natural beauty of the Milford on Sea coastline and surrounding countryside creates inspiration for many local artists. For most of the year they are hidden away quietly creating works with their brushes and this is the time of the year they emerge to show us the results of their efforts.

The exhibition is Free Entry and has refreshments available in aid of Keyhaven Sea Scouts.

Hampshire School Netball Champions & Cricket Success

17 Teams ** 7 Players ** 7 Matches ** 7th Largest County in England ** 70 Goals Scored

An extraordinary week of sport for Milford on Sea Primary School started on Monday 6th June 2022 with the Alpha Netball Team once again travelling to Southampton Sports Centre to compete in the County Netball Finals, having qualified after winning the New Forest District Tournament back in March. Teams from all across Hampshire competed, initially in three Pools, with the Winner only progressing to the Finals Matches.

Alpha stormed their Pool matches, scoring an incredible 58 Goals and showcasing their wonderful talent and netball skills.

Into the “Finals” where they played each of the other two Pool Winners. Marchwood were first, who they had very narrowly beaten (6-5) in the New Forest Event. No such problem this time, as Alpha quickly notched up their 6th Win of the Day with a 7-1 victory. Their last and final match, against Newchurch, was a tighter and incredibly nerve-wracking 15 minutes! Milford dragged out their last strands of energy, showed quite wonderful grit and sheer and utter determination and as the Final whistle eventually blew with a 5-3 win, the celebrations began!

New Forest Girls Cricket Tournament

Wednesday saw two teams of Milford on Sea Primary School Girl Cricketers travel to Calmore Cricket Club to compete in the District Girls Cricket Event.

Schools from across the New Forest were split into two initial Pools, with the Winners and Runners-Up progressing to the ‘Top Tier’ of the Event.

Both the Ari’s and the Bo’s (team names suggested by the children after the frequent appearance of Haribos at Club!) won their Pools and after Lunch played off against Abbotswood, Marchwood and each other to determine the placings.

The Bo’s had a quite fantastic Tournament and narrowly missed out on the Silver Medals after a nail-biting 7 run loss to Abbotswood in their Final match.

The Ari’s had a spectacular day. Over their five matches they scored 434 runs, conceded only 120, took 18 wickets and gave away only One Wide all day. An unbelievable Team Effort.

It was Medals all round for the girls and the Ari’s have now qualified for the County Final at the Ageas Bowl, where they will compete against teams from all across Hampshire.

A huge thank you to all the many parents (and grandparents!) who came along to support both events, and a special thanks to Mrs Mellor for looking after the Bo’s with her usual flair and passion.

Gold Table Tennis Medal success for Simon

Milford on Sea's Simon Heaps and Lucie Bouron from Bracknell have won Mixed Doubles Gold for Great Britain in Mexican Para Open in Cancun. Fighting back from 2-0 down, the Great Britain pairing won the next 3 games to win the Gold Medal.

For Simon, who is a 66 year old bilateral amputee, this was his first International Para Gold for Great Britain.

After this result in Mexico he should now become the GB No 2 in his category.

A couple of weeks prior to this success, Simon had competed in Amman and won his first International Para Medal, a bronze with his German partner.

Next, Simon travels to Rimini, Italy on 25th June to compete in the Over 40’s European Championships and is hopeful of further success.

The day after he lands back in England, Simon boards another plane to Beunos Aires, Argentina to compete in their International Para Open, and 2 weeks after that he will fly to Pattaya, Thailand to compete for Great Britain in the Thailand Para Open

Simon funds all his own tournament trips to represent Great Britain thanks to generous sponsors and supporters. He is very grateful for all of the support received so far, and always looking for more sponsors to join him in following his ambitions representing his country.

If you are a business and would like to sponsor Simon please contact him directly. Private donations can also be made to support Simon by clicking here.

No64 Biscuit House ‘Best Lifestyle Store’ Nomination

A message from Clare at No64 Biscuit House in Milford on Sea high street.

"I hope you all enjoyed the Jubilee celebrations; for those of you who were able to come into Milford it was great fun, as these things always are in our wonderful village.

So, last month I told you the amazing news that we had been nominated for ‘Best Lifestyle Store’ in the Muddy Stilettos Awards.

Well, thanks to so many of you, I’m delighted to say that we’re in the Final 5!

However, for the final, I need to let you know that all votes are set to zero and so we need to ask you to vote for us, just one more time, please (it doesn’t matter if you didn’t vote for us in the first round either, I might add!)?

Here’s your link - please click here - I think you know how it works by now (and if not it’s very quick & simple, just follow the prompts)!

These awards are now national, having grown massively over 9 years, covering every county Muddy Stilettos are now the largest online supporter of independent businesses in the UK.

We’re in the Hampshire & the Isle of Wight section and what I think is so amazing about us being in the final again this year, is that 2 of the 5 finalists in our category are in Winchester city centre!

And so, for the first time, we’re up against shops with huge footfall, compared to us in tiny Milford on Sea; this is why I’m asking for your help this one last time.

There’s no prize, if we win, we simply get the badge of honour to display in-store and on our website. It’s just a fun distraction from all the bad news, which seems to be constantly going on around us at every turn.

So, Glenn & I would so appreciate if you could find the time to vote for us this one last time, voting closes on Wednesday (15th) at 5pm…..thank you!"

Celebrating the Jubilee on the Village Green

Glorious weather accompanied the Queens Platinum Jubilee on Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd June 2022 as Milford on Sea villagers came out to picnic and enjoy the free live music on the village green.

The music was sponsored by The Cave and the artists playing and entertaining the jubilant large crowd were: Carley Varley on Thursday afternoon and Ben Poore on Friday afternoon.

As people sat in the sun they were able to use the picnic tables provided and enjoy cream teas and drinks from The Cave delivered by Jon, Nancy and the team.

La Perle also had tables outside where people could enjoy Sam's tasty scampi and chips.

On Friday afternoon, the Smugglers Inn also had live music from Jake Among The Willows followed by Sunstroke.  There was also a Pimms & Prosecco tent and hog roast to enjoy whilst the children took full advantage of the pub's play park.
