Milford on Sea's Simon Heaps and Lucie Bouron from Bracknell have won Mixed Doubles Gold for Great Britain in Mexican Para Open in Cancun. Fighting back from 2-0 down, the Great Britain pairing won the next 3 games to win the Gold Medal.
For Simon, who is a 66 year old bilateral amputee, this was his first International Para Gold for Great Britain.
After this result in Mexico he should now become the GB No 2 in his category.
A couple of weeks prior to this success, Simon had competed in Amman and won his first International Para Medal, a bronze with his German partner.
Next, Simon travels to Rimini, Italy on 25th June to compete in the Over 40’s European Championships and is hopeful of further success.
The day after he lands back in England, Simon boards another plane to Beunos Aires, Argentina to compete in their International Para Open, and 2 weeks after that he will fly to Pattaya, Thailand to compete for Great Britain in the Thailand Para Open.
Simon funds all his own tournament trips to represent Great Britain thanks to generous sponsors and supporters. He is very grateful for all of the support received so far, and always looking for more sponsors to join him in following his ambitions representing his country.
