Hampshire School Netball Champions & Cricket Success

17 Teams ** 7 Players ** 7 Matches ** 7th Largest County in England ** 70 Goals Scored

An extraordinary week of sport for Milford on Sea Primary School started on Monday 6th June 2022 with the Alpha Netball Team once again travelling to Southampton Sports Centre to compete in the County Netball Finals, having qualified after winning the New Forest District Tournament back in March. Teams from all across Hampshire competed, initially in three Pools, with the Winner only progressing to the Finals Matches.

Alpha stormed their Pool matches, scoring an incredible 58 Goals and showcasing their wonderful talent and netball skills.

Into the “Finals” where they played each of the other two Pool Winners. Marchwood were first, who they had very narrowly beaten (6-5) in the New Forest Event. No such problem this time, as Alpha quickly notched up their 6th Win of the Day with a 7-1 victory. Their last and final match, against Newchurch, was a tighter and incredibly nerve-wracking 15 minutes! Milford dragged out their last strands of energy, showed quite wonderful grit and sheer and utter determination and as the Final whistle eventually blew with a 5-3 win, the celebrations began!

New Forest Girls Cricket Tournament

Wednesday saw two teams of Milford on Sea Primary School Girl Cricketers travel to Calmore Cricket Club to compete in the District Girls Cricket Event.

Schools from across the New Forest were split into two initial Pools, with the Winners and Runners-Up progressing to the ‘Top Tier’ of the Event.

Both the Ari’s and the Bo’s (team names suggested by the children after the frequent appearance of Haribos at Club!) won their Pools and after Lunch played off against Abbotswood, Marchwood and each other to determine the placings.

The Bo’s had a quite fantastic Tournament and narrowly missed out on the Silver Medals after a nail-biting 7 run loss to Abbotswood in their Final match.

The Ari’s had a spectacular day. Over their five matches they scored 434 runs, conceded only 120, took 18 wickets and gave away only One Wide all day. An unbelievable Team Effort.

It was Medals all round for the girls and the Ari’s have now qualified for the County Final at the Ageas Bowl, where they will compete against teams from all across Hampshire.

A huge thank you to all the many parents (and grandparents!) who came along to support both events, and a special thanks to Mrs Mellor for looking after the Bo’s with her usual flair and passion.
