Ray's Italian prepares for life after Lockdown
An update from Ray's Italian Kitchen:
We’re excited to announce that from Tuesday 18th April we’ll be open outside and inside from 9am.
As many of you understand this last year has been hugely challenging for local businesses and here at Ray’s Italian Kitchen, we’ve had to constantly adapt in order to survive.
Our takeaway service has been a lifeline to the business over the last year and thank you to those who have supported us by using this. This will be our last weekend (14/15 May) of the online ordering system, but we will continue to offer the takeaway option on Friday and Saturday evenings, but it will be collection only and call direct to order.
One of our biggest changes recently has been our new deli counter that was installed after research showed that guests are after a lighter offering in the day. We’re now pleased to say this has been massively well received by the local community and visitors and expecting this to be popular in the upcoming summer months.
We’ll be open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9am for coffee and cake, brunch at 10am and light lunch from 12pm to 3pm, with last orders at 4pm.
The restaurant will only be open in the evenings on Fridays and Saturdays for the time being and bookings can be made in groups of 6 or two households inside. Bookings for outside evening seating will be taken on the day in line with the forecast.
Please call 01590 645300 or email info@raysitaliankitchen.co.uk to book.
Stacey and her team at Ray’s Italian Kitchen would like to say a big thank you for your support over the last year and are looking forward to safely welcoming you back into the restaurant.

Change your plans for next Tuesday
So, there we were, looking forward to a Bank Holiday off work and a chance to enjoy the seafront and the stunning surroundings.
Well, that plan didn't work..., Global Warming deserted us and the weather turned like the north pole on a really bad day for the Inuits, and walking the dog was like trying to fly a kite in a wind tunnel stuck on overdrive.
Monday written off, we looked for a way to cheer ourselves up. The answer of course was to go out for a drink and have a takeaway.
The first objective was achieved when we sat on a bench on the village green opposite The Cave with a perfectly served pint for me, a half for my wife and our dog deciding to relax in the late afternoon fine weather. Perfect! Does life get better than this?
Yep, sometimes it does... As booked, our takeaway from La Perle arrived at our door on time and with a smile. Fish Finger Burger & Chips (They must have been triple cooked!), Cod & Chips with homemade tartare sauce, and a totally hedonistic side of Southern Fried Chicken Strips with garlic mayonnaise, all of which were awesome. There was never any doubt that Sam is an excellent chef, but boy, this proved it again. Doing what appears to be simple things brilliantly is a masterful skill.
So, whatever you plans are for next Tuesday, change them, and order you takeaway for next week by clicking here!

OUR HISTORY
We launched our first Milford on Sea village website on 20th May 2008.
At the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic in February 2020 an even greater number of articles were published in order to keep people informed of services available as well as things happening locally.
Food Week also took place in 2011, 2012, 2104 and 2016.
From 2013 to 2015 the Great Dining Bus took groups of diners for separate course in a variety of restaurants across the village.
In 2015 there was Love Milford Week with scores of events which promoted local shops, village trade services, small businesses and community groups. There was also an Exotic Car Show on the seafront.
Photos from all of these village events can be found at: www.flickr.com/photos/milfordonsea/albums
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Village Publications: In 2010 the first Where to Eat & Stay Guide was launched, this was expanded to various Village Guides from 2012 and 2015 which included where to eat, shop, stay, visit and what to do.
In 2010 and 2103 there was a Community Directory published which featured local clubs, organisations, events, home services, charities, churches, kids stuff and lots more.
Village Photo Albums: In 2020 over 4,000 historic photos from Milford on Sea were loaded to a Village Photo Album, this includes many photos from years gone by, as well as a number of past village events.
See Village Photo Albums here: www.flickr.com/photos/milfordonsea/albums

Connecting the Village: We currently have c.2,000 local people who regularly receive our e-mail News Bulletins, and we know of some people who don't want it at all!
We never really considered that people would enjoy & appreciate what we built, however it appears people do and is satisfying to provide a service with a smile to the local community.
Join Us!: We are always looking for more village people to join us (That's people who live in the village, not the YMCA pop band!).
Thanks for your support and for as long as you keep reading, I’ll keep writing!

Walk for Wellness is back
Walk for Wellness was set up by Melissa Page, a qualified personal trainer and ex-lawyer who has a real passion for fitness, and has completed 4 marathons and various charity challenges.
During the pandemic Melissa has adapted, at the moment walking with people individually but maintaining contact through a What's App group.
From 29th March Melissa restarted but with groups of 6 on both Mondays and Wednesdays at 10am and 11am (subject to demand and pre-booking). As the lockdown eases she hopes she will be able to revert to the larger open groups and hopes that from 17th May there will be no pre-booking and anyone that would like to join in will be able to just turn up at 10am on Mondays and Wednesdays outside the Needles Eye Café.
The pandemic has highlighted the importance of fitness and whilst people’s reasons for walking varies feedback on the groups has been very positive and Melissa is keen to see new members and be flexible to ensure people get the most out of the walks.

Children's book author moves into village
Jean Maye has recently moved into Milford on Sea after several years of wishing to become part of the community. Jean is a multi-award-winning screenwriter, a best-selling author of social care books for children, and she has also recently written her first children’s fiction book 'The Dolls House'.
The Doll’s House is for children primarily aged between 6-11 years but easily has a window of one year below and above this age range. Interestingly, since being published, the book has attracted even a larger age range – including adults!
The Dolls House is about an adventurous 8-year-old girl who uncovers a dark mystery in her new adoptive home. Unable to ignore the spooky events that follow she takes on the investigation.
The appeal of children’s fantasy comes from Jean’s childhood love for the works of Enid Blyton, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien (Who used to holiday in Milford on Sea!)
Having formerly worked in this important field much of her writing taps into real-life issues in one way or another, whether this be writing for adults or for children.
Jean’s future plans is to make her first book part of a trilogy with 'Treasures Bright' being the next one planned for the summer.

To buy or read the reviews for The Dolls House, please click here. If you would like a signed copy once you have bought the book from Amazon, then post or pop your book to Jean with a note of who you want the book dedicated to. The book can then be collected the follow day or posted back if you supply a stamped addressed envelope (£1.86 plus). She would do this wearing cotton gloves so to keep ‘Covid’ free.

Vacancy for Assistant Parish Clerk
The Beach House reopens sooner than expected
The Beach House have announced:
"With the weather looking rather good over the next few weeks, we have decided to open our outdoor area a bit earlier than we had originally planned to. So from Thursday next week (29th April) at 5pm, please feel free to stop by for a bite to eat or a drink.
Tables from 29th April until 20th May will be available strictly for walk-ins, but if you want to make an advance booking for a later date, you can do this online for any date after 20th May.
Now – onto the most important thing. Who’s coming with you to the pub?"
About The Beach House
The Grade II listed Beach House was built in 1897 for Alexander Siemens (who created the world’s first public electricity supply) as a summer house for his family.
Formerly known as Westover Hall, Hall & Woodhouse renamed it ‘The Beach House’ in 2012, to reflect how the Siemens family had always used it.
Built in the Arts and Crafts style it was judged the most luxurious residence on England’s south coast and indeed the imposing stained glass windows portray Pre-Raphaelite scenes from the “The Enchanted Wood”. With fantastic raised patio areas and extensive gardens the pub also boasts over 200 outside covers and affords great views across to The Needles and the Isle of Wight (on a clear day of course!).
