Eddie Beach: Chelsea FC professional footballer

Milford on Sea born, Eddie Beach is a 19 year old goalkeeper who signed professional terms with Chelsea FC from Southampton FC in June 2022.

The first team Eddie played for was Milford Youth FC and his career has impressively developed from there. He has also been capped at youth level by Wales.

Eddie has trained regularly with the Chelsea first-team goalkeepers this season and he has already been involved in seven first-team matchday squads. He has now been loaned temporarily to Chelmsford FC in the National League in order to gain matchday experience, hopefully, on his journey to the Premiership.

A really open and honest article has been published in 'football.london' where Eddie gives a frank interview on his journey from Sunday league football, both outfield as well as between the posts.

To read the full article in 'football.london', please click here.

To read Eddie's professional profile at Chelsea FC, please click here.

Milford on Sea has also has had some other famous professional footballers as village residents in the past:

David Peach: (born 21 January 1951) is a former professional footballer, who played at left back for Southampton FC. He was also in the FA Cup Final winning Southampton FC side in 1976.

Michael Keeping: Southampton FC and Fulham FC professional footballer in the 1920/30's. He went on to manage the giant Real Madrid from January 1948 to October 1950.

Fred Keeping: Father to Michael above, was not a footballer, but he did win an Olympic silver medal in the 12 hour cycling race. He also founded Fred Keeping & Sons, a business selling & servicing cars and bicycles.

The building still exists, and still trades servicing cars in Milford on Sea village centre. Now known as 'The Garage', it harks back to the days when the big sign above Fred's door simply read 'Garage'.

Volunteer at, or Sponsor Music Festival

Recent news that the Milford On Sea Music Festival is back on Milford on Sea Village Green this year from 21st to the 23rd July 2023 has received a fantastically positive response.

This year a international headline act is being lined up to entertain everyone and the act name will be launched nearer the event. They are said to be well known, and well loved locally.

The Music Festival organisers are fellow villagers, who volunteer their time to give us all a great weekend of live music. They are now looking for more local businesses to sponsor, and local individuals to help out, even if it is just for a few hours:

Sponsors: A finalised package is due to be available by Thursday. If you are interested in either main or small area sponsorship, please email Fiona, and she will send details when ready: fiona@kificreative.co.uk.

Volunteers: As you can imagine, this event takes a lot of time, and hard work to make happen successfully. Fiona and the organising team are now looking for volunteers to help out. It could be to help with the organisation, or lending a hand on the day with things like; litter, traffic, security. All volunteers will receive a fabulous T-shirt and be part of a special team!  If you would like to find out more, please send Fiona your contact details. fiona@kificreative.co.uk.

Teenagers: The organisers are keen to engage with, and to get the youth in the village involved in the music festival. If you are a parent or guardian of teenager you think would like to be part of the music festival behind the scenes, please contact Fiona and she can let you know when the opportunities are defined. fiona@kificreative.co.uk.

Cash donations to Earthquake Appeal at The Village News

Mark at The Village News has let us know that he can take cash donations for the Turkey and Syria Earthquake appeal, all of which goes directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) through his Payzone system.

The Payzone system is also used for anyone to make domestic bill payments; such as gas & electricity and also for mobile phone top ups. Payzone have now added a function to make charity donations to the emergency appeal.

Donations from £1 to £99 can be paid and a receipt will be provided, with 100% going to the appeal.

Many of our retailers in the village centre are finding business very tough at the moment, yet a number of them have quickly jumped to see how they can help the people so badly affected by the earthquake disaster. The way they continually support us all, and then still look to help others is highly commendable.

Disasters Emergency Committee: The DEC brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas.

In these times of crisis, people in life-and-death situations need help and their mission is to save, protect and rebuild lives through effective humanitarian response. www.dec.org.uk

Council encourages nature on the Cliff Top

New Forest District Council have made the announcement below that they will be working on the Cliff Top to encourage nature:

Over the next few weeks, you may spot our open spaces team working on and around the Milford on Sea cliff top.

We will be removing some plants and shrubs, and cutting grass in the area, where necessary. More plants and shrubs will be planted soon, as well as new wildflower areas.

We are doing this work to encourage nature to thrive, and to prevent the spread of invasive species, such as brown-tail moth caterpillars.

Brown-tail moth caterpillars usually appear in the spring. If you spot any, please do not touch them, as they can cause an itchy rash, and occasionally breathing difficulties like asthma.

You can read more about our ongoing work at the Milford on Sea cliff top, on our website. Please click here.

Stunning Spoonbills spotted at Keyhaven Marshes

We came across these stunning photos of Spoonbills in Keyhaven Marshes taken by Ginny Campbell last week.

To be specific, they were feeding in both Normandy Lake and the ponds at Moses Dock sluice last Wednesday.

They may well have moved on by now, but they are such interesting birds and these are great photos, so we just had to share them!

Music Festival back on the Village Green

Great news! The Milford On Sea Music Festival is back on Milford on Sea Village Green this year from 21st to the 23rd July 2023.

Recent years have been severely Covid affected, but now the festival is going to be back in all its full glory this summer.

One of the organisers, Fiona MacDuff is a Milford on Sea resident who is an accomplished graphic designer with her company Kifi Creative designing brands, logos and websites, as well as running her leisurewear business, Duff-T Tees.

Using her obvious talents, Fiona has design a brand new bold and colourful logo for the Milford On Sea Music Festival. Fiona explains that the logo "Represents the coast/stage and energy the music and people bring!"

I get a feeling that we will see the logo on a range of very popular t-shirts for us to buy come the summer.

This year the Music Festival has a new organising team and once again we can all enjoy a main stage on the village green.

The Facebook page and website will be updated in the coming weeks, we will let you know when they are launched.

If you are a local, young music artist who would like some stage time, please get in touch with Fiona at fiona@kificreative.co.uk.

The Milford on Sea Music Festival is free to attend and the sales from the Festival Programme are very important to help cover the festival costs, so please buy one when they are available later this year.

There are various price sponsorship packages available for village businesses and individuals. There is also the opportunity to be the Main Sponsor. If you would like to see the options, please contact Fiona at fiona@kificreative.co.uk.

The organisers are also considering lots of options to reduce plastic to make the event as sustainable as possible.

As Fiona says; "It's going to be an amazing weekend of music and fun, smiles and laughter, so let's hope for sunshine. Please save the date - And get your picnic chairs ready!"
