Tickets go on sale for Absurd Person Singular

The Community Centre’s forthcoming production of Alan Aykbourne’s dark comedy, Absurd Person Singular will be performed on Thursday 1st, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd June at 7.30pm with a matinee at 2.30pm on Sunday 4th June 2023.

Following the acclaimed successes of her previous directions, Remembered in 2018 and Rumours in 2021 Wendy Mason again directs this intriguing – and funny - play documenting the rise of the ‘little man’ and the fall of his previously considered ‘superiors’ .

Once again the set will show a challenging and ingenious backdrop created by stage manager Grahame Goodyear together with Dave Ellis their props and costume team. The Community Centre’s stage will be transformed into three very different kitchens forming the backdrop for three years’ successive Christmas Eve parties where many potentially disastrous and sometimes hilarious events take place.

Tickets, £15, will be on sale from 10am on Monday 17th April from the Community Centre box office, on line at www.moscommunitycentre.org.uk or by reservation at the box office on 01590 644861.

Monsoori Heights as good as ever

Good Friday tomorrow, and the Easter Weekend coming, what better way to start the break than with a 'good ol' curry.

Our visit for a takeaway from Milford on Sea's popular Indian restaurant, Mansoori Heights was as good as ever.

Each dish we had was packed with spice and flavour and all of the the side dishes fresh and tasty. Plus of course, crisp poppadums' with a nice selection of chutneys.

Having visited 'curry house' across the country over many years, Monsoori Heights are up there with the best.

Now fully re-opened following the owner returning to Bangladesh to get married, the team are now back providing delicious meals for the village. Easter is a great excuse to treat yourself!

Monsoori Heights offer contemporary and traditional cuisine from the Indian subcontinent including many favourite curry dishes. If you enjoy a Indian meal you will not be disappointed.

Meet Autumn Fry, Karate Champion

Milford on Sea has a young 15 year old Karate champion, Autumn Fry, and her dream is to become a world champion.

Autumn's passion is Karate, or to be more specific ‘Kumite’, a competitive sport karate which involves sparring an opponent and scoring with a series of punches and kicks to the head and body.

She is currently under the instruction of Sensei Jamie Jewell and a member of the Wadokai England National Squad, and the England Karate Federation National Squad where she has received 2 caps for England to date.

Autumn's proudest moment so far was winning Gold for England, at the Commonwealth Championships in Birmingham in 2022.

Her parents; Andrea and Rod Fry who also live in Milford on Sea have supported her in every way they can, and she get no other funding to compete.

Autumn commented:  "Despite my parents working more hours in a week than there are, for me to continue we need to look for potential sponsorship and fundraising opportunities, as costs are just not sustainable. All kit, training, travel and accommodation costs are met solely by my family. In 2023 alone the expectation for me to progress means a total of 9 international competitions, 8 UK competitions, plus fortnightly trainings in Birmingham as well as my local club in Totton 4-5 days a week. Costs are steep and will run into many thousands this year alone."

Autumn is therefore looking for a generous individual or local businesses who may be keen to sponsor a young local athlete.

In return, she can advertise your company logo, or name on her kit bag whilst travelling, mention your company in her social media posts when competing, or have photographs for your advertising as appropriate.

If you can help Autumn towards her dream to one day be World Karate Champion, please contact her parents Andrea and Rod on:

-------------------------------------------------
Here are some of Autumn's most recent accolades:
  • Commonwealth Champion 2022 (Birmingham UK)
  • British Silver Medallist 2022 (Leicester UK)
  • Central England International Champion 2022 (Worcester UK)
  • Silver Medallist (Belgium Open 2022)
  • 2x Wadokai National Champion 2022
  • 2x Bronze Medallist: Wadokai European Championship 2022 (Macedonia)
  • 7th Place at European Championship 2023 (Larnaca, Cyprus)
  • Current World Ranking: 23
She also compete on the World Karate Federation K1 Youth League Circuit all around the world 4 times per year.

Folk at The Centre featuring Pat and Lynne

Folk at The Centre are delighted to welcome back the talented and so entertaining Pat Turner and Lynne Heraud at 7.30pm on Thursday 13th April.

Between them, Pat and Lynne play guitar, recorder, English concertina and a variety of whistles (including swanee, policeman's and referee's), list a spoons workshop in their hall of fame, and are not in the least averse to dressing up or dancing when a song requires it.

They both agree, however, that their voices are their most important instruments. Their resulting style is a unique blend of stunning song and harmony, and a humour which takes their audience on a roller-coaster ride - "everything from high tragedy to ingenious smut in glorious vocal harmony!"

Come and enjoy the live music performances. Everyone invited.

Floor singers welcome.

Entry is £5 with a ticket available in advance, or pay on door.
