Do you know these ladies? - Update

You may recall that, towards the end of last year, the Milford on Sea Historical Record Society were trying to identify the Milford on Sea ladies in the photograph below.

The photo had been sent by the family of Marcia Baker.

Well, the picture below show the ladies who have been recognised so far, and those still to identify.

Marcia & her husband, Arthur lived on the corner of Barnes Lane and Manor Road; they came to Milford about 1980 and both passed away a short time before Covid.

The photograph above shows Marcia is in the middle of the back row and the picture was taken in the Milford on Sea Guide Hut
  • Do you recognises any of the other ladies?
  • Any idea why they are wearing and making hats?
  • Are they a part of a village organisation?
  • The date the photo was taken? (It is believed to be before 2014)
  • Anything else that comes to mind?

If you can throw any light on any of these questions, please contact Bob Braid of the Milford on Sea Historical Record Society at:

Extraordinary Makeover at Verveine

Verveine, Milford on Sea's exceptional fish restaurant, has undergone an extraordinary makeover during the past few weeks.

Chef/patron, David Wykes is known for creating and serving imaginative, exciting, and unusual dishes, and his redecoration carries this concept even further.

When you next visit, you will see a ceiling like no other, with actual chairs attached and sat in a grey swirling design. The walls have also been redecorated in green with a splattered effect, together with pieces from David's art collection.

It is always worth visiting Verveine for the exceptional food, which itself is art on a plate, and now there is the added benefit of extraordinary new surroundings each time you look up!

The interior changes were carried out by the obviously talented friends of David, Nick and Dillon.

----------------------------------

About Verveine

Verveine was opened in February 2010 by renowned chef/patron David Wykes. This exceptional fish restaurant offers high quality and relaxed dining in a cordial atmosphere, whilst serving imaginative, unusual and exciting modern dishes.

Dining at Verveine is quite simply, 'A dining experience'.

They take a slightly different approach to dining out, rather than selecting dishes they ask: How many courses would you like? - Is there anything you don't fancy eating? - and Do you have any allergies?

From there, they create a meal to include a mixture of Verveine favourites alongside new and seasonally inspired creations with the very best ingredients.

They offer great value 2 or 3 course lunches, a 6 course tasting lunch, through to exceptional evening tasting menus with 4, 6 or 8 courses. Gift vouchers are also available all year round.

On selected dates throughout the year, they also run The Supper Club, which consists of One Communal Table with an enticingly priced 4 course menu. This is a great way to meet people and enjoy a fun evening with delicious food!
Chef/Patron David learnt his trade through working in world renowned restaurants in France and England.
Verveine holds a Five Star Exceptional Food Rating in the renowned Harden's Guide, and is placed in the Harden's Top 100 Restaurants in the Hardens Guide.

The restaurant has also gained recognition in The Times and Tatler Top 100 Restaurant List, holds 2 AA Rosettes, is recommended in the Michelin Guide and the Good Food Guide, and has a Tripadvisor Travellers Choice with 5 star average.

In 2018 David authored and launched The Verveine Cook Book.

David has also won awards for Best Service, Best Seasonal Menu, and Best Restaurant in Hampshire and he won Hampshire Chef of the Year two years in a row.

Dog Walk with Milford Sausage Society

Milford Sausage Society has no connection to the great British banger..., it is actually a social group of dog owners and their short legged, long body, furry friends.

The Milford Sausage Society meet for a dog walk on the Second Friday of the Month at 2pm at the Beach House.

The afternoon is a social gathering of Dachshunds owners, which was founded and established by Anne Chapman in September 2021.

Each month the group meet for a walk along the Milford on Sea cliff top, followed by refreshments at the Beach House.

Currently there are eight members who join the walks intermittently, and then enjoy swapping sausage dog stories whilst having a coffee and dog treat at the Beach House.

New members and their four-legged friends are always welcome. So, if you have a Dachshund, just go along for a warm welcome.

Who knew Milford on Sea has quite such a number of sausage dog enthusiasts?!

You can also see all of the dates for Milford Sausage Society walks in: www.moswhatson.org.

Potential Parking Charges in Saltgrass Lane, Keyhaven

Our local County Councillor, Fran Carpenter has posted some information about a consultation regarding parking in Saltgrass Lane/New Lane, Keyhaven.

"There will soon be a Hampshire County Council consultation published for residents to comment upon a daytime parking scheme and ‘no overnight parking’ proposal for Keyhaven. The proposals aim to address resident concerns about finding daytime parking spaces at Keyhaven and also the summer overnight parking of camper vans. Watch this space…"

The new parking restrictions appear to be being considered to stop overnight stays by dozens of campervans, and the mess left by some of those visitors. The issue is of course greater in the fine weather.

It is understandable that this issue need a resolution, but like with most things, there is the 'Law of unintended consequences'.

The free parking in Saltgrass Lane and New Lane, is close to Hurst Spit and the only place close to the beach where people in cars can park without payment.

If daytime parking charges are introduced, this will also affect locals and visitors to the beach, as well as people who enjoy water sports in the area. This would be a new cost that seems unfair, particularly for less well off people and families.

It is possible that any new restrictions could be introduced to only apply to overnight parking, which would seems fair. However, daytime parking charges would not be good news for many.

About our local County Councillor, Fran Carpenter

Fran is happy for residents to get in touch with her anytime on email or by phone. She is also happy to meet up in a cafe in Milford on Sea at an arranged mutually convenient time if anyone prefers a face to face chat over a coffee.

If you have a County Council or Highways matter you would like to discuss with Fran, please just get in touch with her.

Fran was first elected to Hampshire County Council for the New Milton North, Milford on Sea and Hordle Division in 2017. To find out more please click here.
