New Coach joins team at Milford Tennis Club

Milford on Sea Tennis & Squash Club have new tennis coach.

Caitlin Inglis, has joined the coaching team alongside longstanding coach Daniel Hitchins. Both are LTA Level 4 Senior Coaches - Accredited+.

The best way to find out more about Caitlin is for her to introduce herself:

“My love for tennis started at 4 years old at my local tennis club, Strathgryffe, on the West Coast of Scotland. 24 years later and my love for tennis has only grown. Throughout my junior years I played many County, National and International tournaments which allowed me to compete across the UK and in Europe. My highlight was representing Scotland in the 6 Nations Junior Tournament.

I started my coaching journey at 18. I loved the idea of being able to teach, share my passion and love for the game that meant so much to me with others.

At the age of 21, I completed my LTA Level 4 Senior Performance Coach Qualification. This allowed me to specialise in performance coaching and led me to coach some of the best 12–18 year olds in the country; some of which have gone on to play Division 1 College Tennis in the States or play tennis full time as a career.

I gained more experience coaching at a Tennis Academy in New York. This allowed me to widen my knowledge and experience through understanding the American tennis philosophy as well as our British approach and values.

Most recently, I have been the Junior Tennis Professional at David Lloyd Poole for 6 years, here I was able to grow the junior tennis programme to 150 children a week.

My philosophy is that no matter what age, gender or ability level, tennis is a sport for everyone. My goal is for every tennis session to be challenging, progressive, engaging and most importantly FUN! If someone walks out of a lesson and has enjoyed themselves, learnt something new, with the feeling that they have accomplished their goal that day and want to come back for more challenges, then that is my job done.

I love working with all ages and levels and meeting new people.

Outside of tennis I have a passion for cooking and baking, I’ve been known for making a mean brownie!”

New Artisan Food & Craft Market

A New Artisan Food & Craft Market is being planned for 2023.

The market will feature locally crafted items and locally made foods, and potential stall holders are invited to get in touch.

It is planned that the stall holders will include; Artisan Crafts: Teddies, Decoupage, Jewellery, Wood, Pottery, Glassware, Cards, Feltwork, Flowers, Candles - & Locally Produced & Homemade Food: Chocolate, Cakes, Cupcakes, Cheese, Chutneys & Jams etc.

The market is is proposed to start in Milford on Sea, and then expand to also visit; Lymington, New Milton, and the Lyndhurst area.

Rockpool Cheese on Radio Solent

Rockpool Cheese in Milford on Sea high street were on Radio Solent today as part of their ‘Clued up’ Radio Quiz presented by Suz. 

The appearance gave them the opportunity to mention a number of the artisan & farmhouse cheeses they sell such as; Pevensey Blue, Pitchfork Cheddar, Witheridge Nettlebed, Kern Cornish Yarg and Little She from Whitelake Cheese.

Rockpool Cheese also have a range of unusual pickles to add to their extensive range of artisan cheeses.

The pickle range includes; Walnuts with a tangy crunch, figs for a mix of hot and sweet, pears for a taste sensation and shallots for a lovely munchy sweetness.

Milford Meadow Planning Permission refused

The Friends of Milford Meadow have reported that the planning application for Milford Meadow was refused on Friday 16th December.

At this stage it is unknown whether the developers may adjust the plans and reapply for permission to build.

However, after this initial success, plans are underway to see how they can protect the whole parcel of land in the long term.

Warm Space in Milford on Sea

Local councillor, Fran Carpenter has announced that New Forest District Council are introducing fifteen Warm Spaces across the New Forest, including in Milford on Sea.

Each location has acquired funding to provide a warm room where people can get a cuppa and meet for a chat, read, or work (most have free Wi-Fi).

Milford On Sea Community Centre on Sea Road will be open as a Warm Space on Friday afternoons from 12pm to 4pm.

This initiative is designed to help people save a few pounds on the heating each week, but most of all, provides somewhere to go make new friends! 

Everyone welcome, all ages, including families.

PS: If you are going to visit the Community Centre Warm Space over Christmas and New Year, please check they will be open.

Opens at 9am to shop at Ray's Delicatessen or have a coffee & snack. 

Christmas Eve Brunch: Served from 10am to 11.30am. Brunch classics with an Italian twist.

About School of Comedy

School of Comedy teaches children the art of improvisation, sketch & stand up comedy.

Set up by Laura Lawson and Tara Carr in 2005, SOC encourages children to explore their own unique brand of improv, sketch and character comedy. Laura took the original troupe to the Edinburgh Festival in 2007 where they were given a Channel 4 pilot, followed by two hit E4 series.

School of Comedy was never really about the television. It was about the children loving the club and encouraging them to raise the bar through an anarchic, liberating workshops. not to mention being able to perform on stage making people laugh, creating exciting new ideas, and most importantly, watching their confidence grow.

Mister Pink's Delicious Battered Pigs in Blankets

Mister Pink's, Milford on Sea's renowned fish & chip shop have added a festive special to their menu; Battered Pigs in Blankets.

Inflation is hitting everyone, and suffering at the sharp end is the whole fish and chip industry, with just about everything doubling in price. So, with regret the Mister Pink's team have no choice other than to increase their prices more than they would like.

That being said, they are now offering a Lunch Special of Cod & Half Chips for £8.50, showing that they are doing all they can to provide value for money to customers.

The Battered Pig in Blanket is £2 and sounds something worth tasting! They will only be available from now and up until Christmas, so get in quick if you would like to try them.  

Everyone loves a treat of fish & chips, it is a British tradition, and still value for money in light of inflation everywhere at present. 

Hopefully everyone will do all they can to support Mister Pink's (and all the other village shops & businesses) in the coming weeks and months. The village centre is literally the heart of the village and it is great for us all when it beats strong. The last thing anyone wants is for us to lose what is a valued institution in the village.

Eat & Sleep at the Lazy Lion

The historic village coaching inn, The Lazy Lion in Milford on Sea high street has a warm and bright dining room & bar area which serves a hearty breakfast everyday from 8am to 10am. 

At 12 noon the restaurant opens right through until 8pm in the evening, serving a varied menu of meals made with the freshest seasonal ingredients. The Specials Board changes weekly, Wednesdays are Pie & Pud Day and of course everyone's favourite the Sunday Roast. Santa is coming to Milford This Sunday

Father Christmas is paying a visit on his sleigh to Milford on Sea this Sunday 11th December between around 5.30pm to 7pm.

Santa will arrive in Milford on Sea at 5.30pm (Supported Milford on Sea Primary School PFA) and then travel around a number of roads in the village.

Santa loves to stop and chat to the children and whilst he'd love to have a photo with everyone, he needs to keep going to keep to his busy schedule. However, if you are ready with your camera then you might be lucky enough to take a quick picture of your child standing with Santa!

There will be an extended stop at the Smugglers Inn from around 6.15pm to 7pm'ish, which provides a great chance for the kids to say hello and maybe get a photo on his sleigh.

Santa Tracker: There will be a link for a Santa Tracker released on the day so that people do not have to wait ages in the cold but come out just as he's coming past. To keep an eye on when the Santa Tracker is launched please follow their Facebook Page by clicking here.

This festive fun is organised by the New Milton Round Table. The New Milton Round Table elves are all taking time out of their own busy lives and away from their families on a Sunday afternoon to bring Santa to as many children as possible.
