Donations still needed for Ukraine

New Forest for Ukraine CIC have just celebrated sending 60 vans of aid directly to refugees in Poland and Ukraine. Van 61 is now also ready to go.

With the onset of winter, donations remain urgently required.

Donations still needed

The New Forest for Ukraine CIC operation is run entirely by a network of volunteers who collect, sort and pack donations, load vans, as well as driving the aid to Poland & Ukraine.

The volunteer team includes local people, as well as Ukrainians and Polish nationals who have settled in the UK. Using their network in their home country they have set up a direct supply route to ensure all the aid gets directly to people who need it. Each truck is not only very much needed humanitarian aid it is also a sign of affinity with the Ukrainian people and what they are going through.

Unfortunately, the flow of donations is slowing up whilst the need for support is increasing. With the onset of winter the temperatures will drop to minus 40 in Poland and Ukraine meaning the need for support is greater now than ever before.

The priority items are on the poster above, and these donations can be dropped-off at the Saltwater Café or the Community Centre in Milford on Sea.  From there they will be collected and taken to the main hub in Lymington before shipment directly to Poland and Ukraine.

New Forest for Ukraine is always looking for more support from volunteers. For more information please see their website: www.newforestforukraine.co.uk

Christmas Carol Night 2009 Remembered

Looking back to 2009...
----------------------------------------------------------------
The Christmas Carol Night is one of those special evenings in Milford on Sea. Over many years the evening has created many memories for people of all ages in the village.

My wife and I have always enjoyed the Carol Night (particularly eating too much of the tasty food around the village!) Before we all enjoy the Carols & Christmas Light turn on for this year you might like to read about our visit in 2009.

Not everything went to plan, and there are names and places that may evoke some memories for you.

Milford Author publishes New Novel

Local Milford on Sea author, Maureen Farenden has published her latest novel; Steal & Wright: The Adnegveill, - and it could make an ideal Christmas present.

About: Steal & Wright: The Adnegveill.

Known and respected around Treetop Village, Jason Kay has established a stainless repute over the years since he arrived penniless in the village. So, when he unexpectedly disappears without a trace, the city's finest cops are tasked to find him... or his body.

When Anne Kay, Jason's wife, fails to report his disappearance, she becomes the first suspect in Inspector Steal & Sergeant Wright's eyes.

What follows is an intricate and suspenseful web of tales, a plethora of buried truth and where prey becomes the hunters and the hunter becomes prey.

The detectives' quest to find the culprit leads them to discover that in the apparently structured life of the rich Jason Kay, there is a lot more than what meets the eye.

Available to order on Amazon by clicking here. £10.99. Plus available from all good bookstores, e.g. Waterstones, W.H.Smiths, and other Retail Outlets.

About Maureen Farenden

Writing has always been Maureen's hobby and passion and she particularly loves stories that contain a murder, mystery, crime, psychological or supernatural element and has always wanted to invent a new detective duo who don't always comply with the ‘letter of the law', but choose right over wrong, which doesn't always side with the victim of the crime.

Having previously penned six other novels, lockdown presented the author with the perfect opportunity to write The Adnegveill, the first novel in a series of novels introducing Steal & Wright: two detectives, polls apart in personality yet as one in their search for ‘true justice'.

In her career, Maureen has worked as a librarian and volunteered as a radio presenter for Hospital Radio, which afforded her lots of insight into people's thoughts when she asked them why they picked a particular song that held such special memories for them.

Therefore, in Steal & Wright, she has also put some songs in that go with particular characters' past, present, emotions or memories, because, sometimes, music touches the parts of our emotions that no words can.

Merry Christmas Milford Concert by Total Voice

Milford on Sea’s very own Total Voice Choir are holding a Christmas Concert featuring some solo and small group performances by local people you may recognise. There will also be a a raffle to raise money for Oakhaven Hospice.

Tickets are £10 and available now from the Community Centre Box Office.
  • Date: Sat 10th December 2022
  • Time: 7pm
  • Location: Milford on Sea Community Centre

About Total Voice Choir

Total Voice started as an idea for a community choir. Christine Mulgrew, then studying for a degree in music performance and technology, wondered if there was any appetite for singing in Milford on Sea, the beautiful coastal village in Hampshire where she lived. She decided to start a choir that would learn and perform rock and pop songs, and would be open to all.

The first rehearsal took place the Milford on Sea Guide Hut in January 2010. The weather was absolutely dreadful, with thick ice on all the roads. Only seven people made it to the venue that night, but the following week, after a thaw, the numbers began to climb. Nowadays, the hut is packed every week with up to sixty singers. The choir has performed at all sorts of local events and festivals and has gained a reputation for its well-known tunes, relaxed style and boundless enthusiasm.

If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact Christine at:
