Celebrating the Jubilee on the Village Green

Glorious weather accompanied the Queens Platinum Jubilee on Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd June 2022 as Milford on Sea villagers came out to picnic and enjoy the free live music on the village green.

The music was sponsored by The Cave and the artists playing and entertaining the jubilant large crowd were: Carley Varley on Thursday afternoon and Ben Poore on Friday afternoon.

As people sat in the sun they were able to use the picnic tables provided and enjoy cream teas and drinks from The Cave delivered by Jon, Nancy and the team.

La Perle also had tables outside where people could enjoy Sam's tasty scampi and chips.

On Friday afternoon, the Smugglers Inn also had live music from Jake Among The Willows followed by Sunstroke.  There was also a Pimms & Prosecco tent and hog roast to enjoy whilst the children took full advantage of the pub's play park.

Whitby Road Jubilee Street Party beats the rain!

Rain at Gillingham Road Jubilee Street Party

The rain slowly appeared at the Gillingham Road Queen's Platinum Jubilee Street Party on Sunday afternoon.

A very colourful afternoon was enjoyed with live music, games for the kids, great party food and a partygoer even provided a visit as the 'Queen's Lady in Waiting'.

With typical British resolve when the rain eventually kicked in, a quick change of clothes and brollies were collected to ensure the party went on.

Even the best organisation & planning cannot control the weather, but the weather can never dampen the British spirit!

Jubilee Lunch & Derby at Community Centre

110 people sat down to a typical British lunch of roast beef and Queen of Pudding to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee at the Milford on Sea Community Centre on Saturday 4th June 2022.

A loyal toast and the National Anthem completed the lunch and preceded the big screen showing of The Derby with a fun sweepstake.

A great effort from the brilliant team of volunteers and lots of happy diners.

Queen's Jubilee Party at Solent Grange

The Street Party for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee at Solent Grange managed to get in their festivities just before the rain tried to spoil proceedings on Sunday.

Friends, neighbours and pets gathered to celebrate what had proved to be a fabulous weekend of national celebration.

It is clear the Laraine and the organising team did a great job in bringing everyone together for a fun time.

Jubilee Street Party at Shorefield Way

Shorefield Way in Milford on Sea held a fabulous Queen's Platinum Jubilee Street Party for around 80 residents, ranging from the very young to possibly our oldest resident Mary, who at 100 was enjoying the festivities with her daughter Margaret, who recently turned 80. Congratulations!

There was of course lots of red, white and blue to help celebrate the Queen’s magnificent reign.

The party catered for everyone; with a children’s play table, a Glitter Bar and street Jenga. Nigel was cooking the crepe’s, and there were loads of tasty treats, gorgeous cakes and lots of bottles to keep everyone well fed and watered.

It is understood that the party went on well into the evening and even had egg and spoon races!

Well done to Christine, Nigel, Abbey and all of the team there who made this a real family event.

Fantastic party, fit for a queen!

New Defibrillators in village

It is great to see two new Defibrillators being installed in Milford on Sea in recent weeks.

The three village Defibrillators are now located at:
  1. Side wall of Coop in village centre
  2. Community Centre, Sea Road
  3. All Saints' Church Hall, Greenbanks Close
Although each casing is slightly different, they all indicate a phone number to call. This takes you through to the emergency services who can give a code to open the case and provide instructions on what to do.
---------------------------------------------

PS: We have also now been informed that there are also Defibrillators at:
  • Shingle Bank Drive (Bottom of road)
  • Milford on Sea Club (Behind the bar, not in a box, and readily available to anyone in need if club is open.)

---------------------------------------------

Local resident Frances Lines, of Two Line Training who provide affordable first aid and medical training for employers and individuals has made a very generous offer.

Frances has said that she is happy to do a Free Training Course on how to use the defibrillator. To organise any training, please contact Frances using the email link below, or visit her website below for her phone number.

Great response to Your+Health Survey

The Milford on Sea League of Friends have sent a huge vote of thanks from the League of Friends Health Hub to the community of Milford on Sea, who responded to the YOUR+HEALTH Survey which came to a close on 31st May.

The response to this important survey on the future of health services in Milford on Sea has been nothing short of outstanding. The amazing response has been helped along enormously by support from so many areas including the Milford on Sea News, school, shops, businesses, clubs and associations and to the active group of trustees and Friends and volunteers of the LoF Health Hub who gave their time, expertise and enthusiasm so generously.

The organisers look forward to making the results available to be published here in August.

Background

The brief survey, initiated by the the League of Friends, asked for your views on the future of the Milford on Sea War Memorial Hospital.

There is a lot of history and emotion regarding The War Memorial site. Local people wanted a war memorial to help everyone remember those who served and lost their lives in WW1. It was decided that the hospital was the best way to achieve this.

The hospital hasn’t been a working hospital for over fourteen years, and has long been overtaken by the centres of healthcare excellence found at Southampton, Lymington and Bournemouth.

The aim of the survey is to understand your current and future healthcare needs to help achieve improved access to sustainable additional local health services.

One of the ways the League of Friends will be helping the community is by discussing with the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group how local needs of the population can be met.
