Miggy's Art wins award at New Forest Show

Miggy Flux, a talented Milford on Sea artist was delighted to discover that she had won a 3rd prize for her painting at the New Forest County Show.

She has also reached the final round of this year's SAA Artists of the Year.

Miggy's Paintings are For Sale at: the new Strawberry Gallery at 106 High Street, Milford on Sea, and also on Miggy's Facebook page. It is also possible visit Miggy's home studio (by appointment) in the village.

She also exhibits at local exhibitions in Milford on Sea and Lymington. 

Her paintings are all oils and prices range from £80 to £450 depending on size.

About Miggy Flux

Miggy is an accomplished artist who lives in Milford on Sea. Her painting are atmospheric and often feature seascapes and landscapes.

She is also chairman of the Milford Art Group.

Miggy has had a colourful life, having been born in Pakistan, childhood in India, Retired Registered Nurse, She loves sailing, the sea, travelling, adventure, painting, her dog and husband, - and food!

In 2023, Miggy won a prize for her painting at the New Forest County Show. She also reached the final round of SAA Artists of the Year 2023.

Trina Hart One Day Exhibition at The Strawberry Gallery

On Saturday 29th July, The Strawberry Gallery pop up contemporary art gallery in Milford on Sea village (formerly Saltwater Cafe) is hosting a one-day solo exhibition of contemporary works by Trina Hart. 

The exhibition is entitled; 'Your Muse is my Landscape'.

About Trina Hart

Trina creates using fluid acrylic colours, and mixed media. Her painting aim to be a reflection of the society in which we live, and the images that evoke emotion and a perception of the world.

Trina came to painting late in life, having only really picked up a brush about 10 years ago. Her life has been one of creativity coming from a background in publishing and writing, but she finds nothing better than image and colour, to convey the turbulent mood and temperament of the times in which we live.

The Strawberry Gallery is open on Tuesdays: 10am to 4pm, Wednesdays: 10am to 1pm and Fridays & Saturdays: 10am to 4pm at the moment, and the pop up venue will continue to be transformed, so keep an eye out for news on the latest artists who will be exhibiting. Events are also being planned, all will be announced on The Strawberry Gallery Facebook page.

About The Strawberry Gallery

Milford on Sea's pop-up contemporary art gallery is run by Gail Steggell. The gallery hosts an eclectic collection of work by both establish and emerging artists who are predominantly based in the New Forest National Park, occasionally they showcase artists from other places.

As well as featuring an every growing, and changing, range of contemporary art and ceramics from local artists, Gail also has a range of bespoke greetings cards.

Gail formerly ran the popular Tradewinds Gallery in the village where she supported and promoted emerging and established artisans, potters, painters, jewellery makers and the like.

Keyhaven Regatta Next Week

Keyhaven Yacht Club are hosting the Keyhaven Regatta Week with the sailing taking place from Sunday 30th July to Friday 4th August 2023.

The daily adult & junior racing is open to all members and visiting yachtsmen, with most racing starts around 10am or 11am each day.

The club is situated in one of the most beautiful harbours on the Solent, and visiting Keyhaven Harbour at any time is never a disappointment.

About Keyhaven Yacht Club

Keyhaven Yacht Club was founded by Captain G.J.F. Adams in 1928. 

The Clubhouse has unique views of the Keyhaven River and the Solent, and contains a members Club Bar with a friendly atmosphere and a very active social calendar, showers and changing rooms. It also has a fleet of support boats including four RIBs and a diesel engine launch.

The Club is an RYA Training Centre for the training of helms and crews of support and power boats. 

The annual sailing programme provides for Open Class & Scow racing, Junior sailing, Pottering, and Club cruising from April through to November. The Club has its own floating pontoon and its own small car park and there is limited space for members dinghies and tenders.

Bring the kids, and come and take part in the Let's Get Outside Family Fun on Tuesdays in August.

Meet by the All Saints' Church door for outdoor trails and craft activities in All Saints' Churchyard for families with toddlers through to juniors. Each week has a separate theme. 

There will be something for everyone.

Summer Fun

For older children there will be a chill out area in the church 2pm to 4pm on the first four Thursdays in August.

Board games, snacks and drinks will be available - those in Y6 or above can come and let us know what they’d like to see offered too.

An ideal opportunity for young people in Y6+ to gather in the summer holidays.

Milford Art Group Exhibition

Milford Art Group are celebrating their golden anniversary, and this year’s art exhibition will be open every day from Sunday 30th July until Saturday 12th August in All Saints Church Hall, Milford on Sea.

The exhibition is open from 10am to 5.30pm daily, Sundays 11am to 5.30pm and the Last Saturday 10am to 4pm.

If you do take the time to attend, it will be worth it. You will see an array of local talent with a wide variety of original art featuring local scenes, seascapes, animals, portraits, abstract, modern art, mixed media and more. 

Even better, if you spot anything you particularly like, all pieces are for sale at a lot less than gallery prices.

Admission and parking free.


About Milford Art Group

Milford Art Group were founded in 1973 and are celebrating their golden anniversary in 2023. The group has around 65 full members and 25 associate artists who gather to promote art skills, knowledge, and fellowship and to arrange periodic exhibition of their work.

The artists meet on the First Thursday of each month from 2pm to 4.30pm in All Saints' Church Hall to enjoy demonstrations by professional artists of art in framed pictures of landscape, still life, seascape and portraiture in diverse materials including oils, acrylics, water colour, pastel, inks, mixed media and more.

Visitors are welcome to these demonstrations for a small fee.

When the weather permits, they also meet on Milford Green for a couple of hours on Wednesday mornings to paint and chat.

Milford Art Group hold an annual two-week exhibition at the beginning of August in All Saints' Church Hall where members show and, perhaps, sell their paintings to the public.

Morris Dancers coming to The Smugglers Inn

New Forest Meddlars, the New Forest's finest (and only) Morris Dancers, will be back dancing in Milford on Tuesday 1st August from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, bashing sticks and shaking their bells in the garden of The Smugglers Inn. 

Come along to enjoy a drink and some traditional eccentric British dancing!

There will also be an opportunity to 'have a go' and join in if you wish!

New Forest Meddlars

Kate Danby exhibiting her paintings

Kate Danby, a local Milford on Sea artist, is exhibiting some of her art at this year’s Lymington Palette Club annual exhibition

This art exhibition takes place at the Masonic Hall on Lymington’s high street from Friday July 28th until Friday 4th August 2023.

The exhibition will display a variety of painting styles – from contemporary to local scenes.

Admission is just 50p whilst children are free.

The Lymington Palette Club was formed by innovative local artist Violet Garrod and friends in 1954. The club continues to encourage an enthusiasm and development of artistic ideas amongst members and friends of the club. www.lymingtonpaletteclub.co.uk


Keyhaven Artists' Summer Art Exhibition

Keyhaven Artists' are hosting their annual Summer Art Exhibition as part of Hampshire Open Studios this August. Everyone is invited to come along to simply enjoy viewing the art, and if you fancy, you can buy some art to brighten your home.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 12th August until Monday 28th August at Keyhaven Scout Hut, Keyhaven Road, S041 OTP, and will be open daily from 10am to 4pm.

The local Milford on Sea artists exhibiting are: Sue Page, Angela Versey, Tessa van Hasselt and Shaun Stevens.

Refreshments available to visitors in aid of Milford & Keyhaven Sea Scouts.

Health Hub to host First Friday Lunch

This month's First Friday Lunch at the Bridge on Friday 4th August 2023 is hosted by Milford on Sea League of Friends Health Hub.

Come and enjoy a delicious two course lunch for just £8. Doors open at 12.30pm.
 
The menu this month is roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and fresh vegetables followed by apple pie and custard.

Everyone invited.

The Health Hub supports the health and welfare of Milford on Sea, Keyhaven and Everton communities through educational talks, health campaigns and promotions.

New Reiki, Pilates and Crystal Healing in the village

Rebecca Marr Wellness is a new business in Milford on Sea. Rebecca lives in the village and is a Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, Crystal Healing Therapist and Pilates Instructor with over 15 years teaching experience.

Rebecca is now offering sessions/treatments from her home, with an option to visit clients homes.

About Rebecca

Rebecca is a Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, Crystal Healing Therapist and Pilates Instructor with over 15 years teaching experience, based in the village of Milford-on-Sea. Rebecca has devoted many years to studying various forms of healing and self-care practices to become stronger in mind, body and spirit and has a strong desire to guide other others towards reaching a powerful state of being of their own. 

Rebecca has previously treated clients as a Reiki Practitioner and taught Pilates at The Natural Health Hub as well as Orchids Retreat (Reiki Treatments only), both in Lymington. She is also a cover teacher for Coast Pilates, also based in Lymington. Rebecca now teaches 1 to 1 Pilates for all levels and offers Reiki Treatments from her home in Milford-on-Sea, also able to come to her clients home if suitable.

For those interested in learning the levels of Reiki either for yourself or to treat others, Rebecca can provide full training. She is also available to teach small groups or 1 to 1’s on the subject of Crystals, including their benefits, how to choose, use and look after them.

Milford on Sea Bowls Club Entertain Milford Primary School

On Thursday 13th July, a number of 5th and 6th Year pupils from Milford Primary School joined members of Milford on Sea Bowls Club for a couple of hours coaching on the Green.

The pupils, the coaches, and the teachers, all thoroughly enjoyed the session and the Club and School are in discussion to repeat the experience next Summer Term.

About Milford on Sea Bowls Club

The club was founded in 1933 and provides an inviting seafront location for its members to enjoy the playing of bowls and participate in our social events.

The Club’s Green has 6 rinks that are amongst the finest in the area and are situated on Hurst Road, Milford-on-Sea enjoying spectacular views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight and the Needles.

The outdoor playing season runs from early April until late September. The mixed membership has Club roll ups on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and the club participates in the New Forest and Bournemouth & District Leagues. During the winter months the players enjoy indoor, short mat bowls.

Open to the Public

Locals and visitors are invited to give bowls a go on some days of the week when there are no league matches, competitions and/or special events taking place. Shoes and bowls available to hire. You can see the weekly timetable on the clubs website.

Milford on Sea Music Festival This Weekend

It's here at last! The Free Milford on Sea Music Festival starts this Friday 21st and runs until Sunday 23rd July 2023 on the village green.

First act on stage at 1.30pm on Friday. Full list of acts, and times on stage right throughout the day, in the festival programme.

Headline Act: John Illsley bass guitarist of the legendary rock band Dire Straits. Plus, 19 talented local bands, singers & musicians across a multitude of genres performing for our free entertainment.

Just back from breakfast at The Lazy Lion with my mate Colin, and wow, what a breakfast, - and what great value at a special offer price of just £17.50 for Two large Full English!

Bearing in mind this price also included plenty of toast with jams, and a cafetiere of coffee each, it's a true bargain. There are also some very tasty healthy options to choose from too. What's not to love!

A popular village pub situated in an historic Grade II Listed former eighteenth century coaching inn serving quality food for breakfast, lunch, and evening meals.

The pub is dog friendly, and they run regular events such as Quiz Nights & Dinner Evenings. They also hold a Pie & Pudding Night every Wednesday with a changing menu of tasty homemade pies.

Takeaway Offers at Milford Music Festival

Ray's Italian Kitchen and Saltwater in Milford on Sea High Street are both running special takeaway menus for the Milford on Sea Music Festival.

There will also be takeaway options on the village green, including No64 Pizzas, and of course plenty of other places to eat as you will see on the link at the bottom of this page.



Saltwater will be open for inside dining until 1pm on Friday (21st July - Booking suggested as very busy.) Then, for the whole festival weekend starting at 5pm on Friday, there is a takeaway menu with soft Mexican taco wrap.
