Amazing Lunchtime Christmas Menu at Verveine

Verveine, Milford on Sea's spectacular fine dining fish restaurant have launched their Lunchtime Christmas Taster Menu.

At £37pp for Six Courses this is fantastic value for a top class meal by a extraordinary chef. This would easily by £100pp in London.

The menu will be available from Wednesday 1st of December until Thursday 23rd of December.

As always the menu is packed with flavours and the creative flair that only chef patron, David Wyke can pull off.

The menu has a varied set of dishes. For example, if you fancy the sound of smoked salmon with Babycham and a flaming Christmas pudding ice cream all washed down with a Christmas tree martini book your table today.

Three Kings spotted on Village Green

Following the switch on last Friday, the Milford on Sea Christmas Lights & Decorations are delighting adults and children alike.

Within the many decorations around the village you may have noticed these impressive pieces of artwork on the village green.

The three kings and the nativity scene were created by local Milford on Sea artist, Gillian Key. Her colourful creation demonstrate her clear talents and make a wonderful addition to these years' celebration.

If you haven't seen all of the many decorations yet, please pop into the village centre and perhaps whilst there, check out the many Christmas gifts and treats our village shops have to offer.

A Magical Night in Milford on Sea

A massive crowd turned out for the turn on off the village Christmas Tree Lights on Friday 3rd December, and nights like this make us all so grateful to live in this delightful seaside village community.

Carol singing, choirs, a band, Santa's Grotto and more made a truly special evening on the village green for adults and children alike.

To add to the decorations there are also Christmas art installations, wreaths and festive displays across the village centre.

As they say, 'A picture paints a thousand words', and the photos below by Graham Wiffen do just that:

RAF Helicopters' Anniversary Flight over The Needles

If you spotted two helicopters flying above The Needles and Isle of Wight recently it was likely to have been the RAF Helicopters' Anniversary Flight.

The RAF explain: Chinook and Puma from RAF Odiham and RAF Benson have conducted a sortie to mark 90 years of combined service. The two uniquely painted airframes celebrated their individual anniversaries earlier this year, but this is their first formation flight as a pair. The Puma (XW224), has completed 50 years of service, while the Chinook (ZD984) has completed 40 years of service.

Each aircraft’s tail art was especially commissioned to commemorate the significant anniversaries of their entry into service with the Royal Air Force.

The flightpath included a number of iconic sites, stretching from the Isle of Wight to central London; with each location offering unique joint training opportunities for the crews who often work together on operations.

The helicopters are expected to be returned to their standard operational markings early next year.

Kindness from Pleasure Grounds to Southampton

For those that don't follow the 'We love Milford on Sea' Facebook page, this recent post demonstrates one man's exceptionally good deed for the day:

Post: To the lovely man who found my daughters purse in the Pleasure Grounds and drove it all the way to Southampton to return it to her. She sends her very grateful thanks...

Reply: I hope the gentleman sees this! We were in the pleasure gardens and he was asking us if we had seen your daughter. He was so caring and so concerned and had been looking for 30 minutes when we met him! What a star!

We also hope the gentleman sees this and knows that his generosity of spirit is admired by many.

A knitted celebration to raise smiles at Christmas

It is very rare that we post any articles that are not directly related to Milford on Sea, but this Christmas idea deserves sharing.

In Guildford, every year a group of volunteers knit Christmas characters and tie them to a railing with a laminated sign inviting people to help themselves.

This simple and generous idea creates a festive display, delights children, raises a smile and brightens many peoples day.

Wouldn't it be great to see something similar on the bridge in Sea Road or somewhere else suitable?

If anyone takes this concept on, please let me know at:

PS: We could also invite people to join a 'Knitting Ninja Group' if someone was happy to co-ordinate a group of festive knitters?

PPS: We might even be able to find a sponsor if buying the wool is an issue. If that's the case, let me know and we can see if we can find someone help.

PPPS: If you would like to sponsor the 'Knitting Ninja Group', please let me know.

New Gym & Fitness Centre in the village

Well when I say new, according to their website The Unit (Fitness centre & gym) has actually been in the village since April 2021 - but I've only just heard about it!

The Unit is a boutique training facility in Laundry Lane, right in the heart of Milford on Sea.

The team are dedicated to developing the community’s fitness and they believe that everyone can be fitter, stronger and in turn happier through exercise. So, they have created a facility to turn that belief into reality.

All abilities are welcome. The trainers can tailor each session to an individuals level with the aim to gain improvement week on week.

Their Programmed Group Classes consist of a daily WOD (Workout of the day) inspired by cross training. You can expect ‘METCONs’ (Metabolic conditioning), ‘EMOMs’ (Every minute on the minute) and ‘AMRAPs’ (As many rounds as possible) as standard. These workouts combine high intensity training with strength movements.

The Programmed Group Classes run from Monday to Friday starting at 6.30am or 7.30am and there are evening sessions at 5.30pm or 6.30pm.

On Sunday Morning at 8am they hold a Weekend Bootcamp.

They also offer Open Gym Sessions on selected dates for those happy to do their own training.

Pay as you go sessions are: £10 or if booked through the app; £40 for 5 sessions.
