The Smugglers Inn in Milford on Sea have Free Live Music this Friday 17th May 2024 from 9pm.

Milford on Sea Rowing Regatta this Saturday

The ever popular Milford on Sea Coastal Rowing Regatta takes place this Saturday 18th May 2024 just off Milford on Sea seafront.

Racing starts from 10am and can be viewed from Milford on Sea beach throughout the day and it is always fun to watch as the competition unfolds.

This regatta is part of the Hants and Dorset Championship Regatta of the summer season and will be a day full of coastal racing.

Captain Crackers and The Rambling Men coming to The Gun Inn

Captain Crackers and The Curiosities will be back at The Gun Inn in Keyhaven with a brand new line up, and special guests on stage, The Rambling Men, from 7.30pm om Wednesday 22nd May 2024. Admission is free.

The Rambling Men are a local local trio who will playing pop, country and jazz, as you enjoy a drink or meal.

Captain Crackers and the Curiosities are a colourful band based in the New Forest, who describe themselves as "musicians who love frolicking through wildflower meadows, splashing across picturesque chalk streams, getting lost in ancient woodland and fetching up sweaty and bedraggled at The Gun Inn."

This unique event is described as an evening of music and mayhem!

If you are coming just for a drink, there is a good selection of real ales alongside a fully stocked bar and there is no need to book.

Tables for dining will be limited so please call, email, or book online to reserve a table for dinner.

Booking for the quiz is not essential as you can just come along and join in on the night, but booking a table is recommended if you are bringing a team.

Lazy Lion raises £570 for Macmillan Cancer Support

The Charity Quiz Night held on on Tuesday 30th April 2024 at The Lazy Lion raised £570 for Macmillan Cancer Support. To date Iain has raised £1,950 for this worthwhile charity that helps so many.

This Quiz Night, and others events planned, are to support landlord Iain’s fundraising in doing the monumental Tour de France Stage Challenge this summer.

Harden's Guide Certificate of Achievement for High Quality Food 2024.

Free Messy Church next Thursday

Come and enjoy the kids activities at Messy Church from 4pm to 6m on Thursday 23rd May 2024 in All Saints' Church Hall.

This free event is for children and their families to enjoy.

The Messy Church afternoon will explore the story of Moses and the Big Rescue, and include a variety of activities for different age groups including Craft, Messy play, Stories & Songs. Hot and cold drinks available throughout.

The activities will be led by volunteers from the church with parents/carers and children taking part together.

Bring the Kids. Free entry but booking required. Please sign up all adults and children that are likely to attend with you.

Choralia to perform Songs from the Shows

Milford on Sea's popular chamber choir, Choralia Milford have a loyal local following, and features singers from the village.

The choir have announced that their next performance will be their Summer Concert ‘Songs from the Shows’ at 4pm on Sunday 14th July 2024 at Lymington Baptist Church, 10 New Street, Lymington SO41 9BJ.

Although we normally only feature events in the village, we make an expectation here due to the choirs' close association with Milford on Sea.

This impressive 40-strong chamber choir, will be singing a programme which includes songs from West Side Story, Les Misérables, and Phantom of the Opera.

The choir will be conducted by their Musical Director Phil Daish-Handy.

This concert is in support of Oxfam.

About Choralia Milford

Choralia Milford is a friendly chamber choir that works hard to create high quality performances of eclectic repertoire. The choir is based in Milford on Sea and was formed as the UK came out of Covid Lockdown in 2021.

Comprising of around 40 members, this unique choir has developed a broad range of classical and contemporary repertoire, including world premieres of local composers’ music.

Rehearsals take place on Thursdays in All Saints' Church, Milford on Sea. New singers always welcome.

Musical Director

Philip Daish Handy has entertained audiences across the world. Philip came to prominence after winning the prestigious Music at Beaulieu Competition, leading to numerous performances and several recordings.

Philip founded and is Artistic Director of the Nova Foresta Classical players. With his orchestra, Philip has performed numerous concertos, and has collaborated with numerous choirs and choral societies to form choral extravaganzas, ‘come and sing’ events, candlelight concerts and Christmas concerts throughout the UK. He is also Festival Director of the Lymington Choral Society and Voices of the Forest.

Alan Rayment added to Milford on Sea Famous Residents

Over the years we have continued to compile a record of Milford on Sea Famous Residents throughout history. Our most recent addition is Alan Rayment.

Alan was a professional Hampshire County Cricketer from 1948 to 1959, and a member of the Hampshire team that finished third, and then second, in the County Championship in 1956 and 1958.

He was also an accomplished dancer who set up dances and tuition sessions.

In his later 18 years, living in Victoria Road Milford on Sea, Alan's memoirs were published in two books, 'Punchy Through the Covers' and 'Punchy's Hampshire Years'.

Alan passed away in 2020 and is laid to rest at All Saints Churchyard in Milford on Sea.

In April 2014 we published an article entitled; 'Punchy Through the Covers' about the life and times of Alan Rayment a former Hampshire county cricketer, latterly a dancer and a resident of Milford on Sea. Click here to read more.

In 2020, The Advertiser & Times ran an article by Chris March which reported that Alan had sadly died in October 2020 aged 92, and provided highlights from his life.

However, the story does not end there...

Alan was in the process of writing what would have been three volumes of his autobiography when he passed away. To ensure his memories were not lost, Alan's loyal friends stepped in to completed his latest volume using Alan’s extensive notes and recorded interviews.

Milford on Sea Probus Club win prestigious Golf Tournament

On a sunny Wednesday afternoon last week, players from all over the New Forest assembled for the annual Probus Golf Tournament at New Forest Golf Club, with our Milford on Sea Probus Club emerging as tournament winners.

Teams of four competed with their counterparts for this prestigious trophy with the best 3 scores counting from each team to their overall total.

This years outright winners and trophy holders for 2024 went to the Probus Club team from Milford on Sea with the individual prize awarded to Mike Hartley with 39 points, who is pictured below with Derek Breden and Captain Chris Gilmour.

"We’ll be back next year to defend the trophy said the boys."

About Milford on Sea Probus Club

Milford on Sea Probus Club is for retired and semi-retired men from a broad range of professional and public service careers. Many of us have relocated to this amazing village, and have found Probus an ideal way to form a new network of friends.

The group meet at The South Lawn Hotel on the fourth Tuesday each month, starting with coffee at 10.30, followed by a guest speaker, usually presenting on local or historical interests. Drinks and conversation are then followed by lunch.

Separate social activities are arranged by the club, in 2024 trips planned to Salisbury races, a vineyard and to Bovington tank museum.

Morgan Sports Car Club visit South Lawn Hotel

A glorious sunny day welcomed The Morgan Sports Car Club New Forest Centre for their Annual Lunch at South Lawn Hotel on Sunday 12th May 2024.

This spectacular array of iconic Morgan Sports Cars made a great display of classic British design on the hotel lawns.

The Morgan Sports Car Company was established in 1909 by H.F.S Morgan with the design of the classic Morgan Three Wheeler. Dates announced for Story of Milford Walking Tour

The 2024 dates for the 'Story of Milford Walking Tour' hosted by Lymington Town Tours have been announced with the first walk starting in May.

This walk starts at 11am on the Village Green and finishes on the cliff top at the Beach House with a duration of 1¾ hours.

There is no need to book, just turn up at the start point a few minutes before the walk time shown so that you can meet the guide.
