Fantastic Music Festival!

If you missed last weeks Milford on Sea Music & Arts Festival, you missed something very special.

As one of our readers put it:

"WOW! How fantastic was that?

The Music and Arts Festival was bigger than ever.

The range of venues across the village made the Festival more accessible to more people, so much so that choosing was very difficult!

The range of music from classical through folk to rock to avant-garde was brilliant.

The range of arts from the poetry readings to the poignant “Remembered” - very moving.

Well done and a very big "Thank You!" to Nova and her team!"

I am sure many of us with add to those congratulations.

Ellie wins Junior County Handicap Championship

Congratulations to Milford on Sea’s Ellie Mans (12), who is now the 2018 HLCGA Junior County Handicap Champion.

It might have been the final day of the 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie last Sunday but Barton on Sea links course invited the crème de la crème of Hampshire girl golfers for their annual Championship.

A slight breeze in the morning challenged some of the girls and with a lot of run on the ball it was easy to find the occasional bunker or long rough. At the half way point Ellen recorded a strong nett 70, and lay in 2nd place, by just 1 shot.

However with another 18 to go anything could happen. As anticipated, the breeze did pick up in the afternoon making conditions quite different and arguably trickier.

Ellen clawed back the 1 shot deficit to lift the trophy with a nett 75 & a combined 145.

Ellen is a member of the U18 Hampshire Performance Team and is under the tutelage of BOSGC Head Pro - Pete Rodgers.

Milford Flower & Produce Show Review

The Milford Flower & Produce Show took place on 21st July and featured a particularly impressive input from local children's groups who produced very realistic plates of clay vegetables and beautiful miniature gardens.

There were also exceptional successes for Hilary Sullivan in the fruit and vegetable sections and Alison Abrams in floral art. This year's newcomer's award was won by Angela Hockham.

Missing Engagement Ring

We have been contacted by a reader whose friend has this weekend lost her engagement ring in Milford on Sea, either in the Needles Eye Car Park, the Café or on the promenade between the car park and the pill box by The White House.

It is a yellow Gold (18 Carat) diamond solitaire. It is 40 years old and obviously has a lot of sentimental value.

If you can help please contact David on david@milfordonsea.org and we will let them know.

New Italian Restaurant Opens This Friday

A new Italian restaurant, Piccolo's, opens in Milford on Sea village this Friday, and the concept is to be family orientated during the day and early evening, and then intimate for couples and groups later in the evening.

Well I say new, but Piccolo's is in fact a reincarnation and reinvention of Piccolo Mondo which preceded Le Perle in the village centre a number of years ago. The owner is Jon Crouch a well known local restaurateur, who was also involved in founding Verveine, and is the current owner and mine-host at The Cave.

The new Piccolo's can be found in the High Street at the previous home of The Raft.

When Piccolo's opens for their soft launch this Friday they will be serving tasty nibbles, Italian classics and favourites including pizza and pasta, plus desserts and a full drinks menu - and there will be a warm welcome for everyone!

The restaurant has undergone a complete change to reflect the new offering and when the full menu is launched it will include meat, fish and more.

Piccolo's Open This Weekend:
(No booking, just come on in)

Friday 20th July 2018 - 5pm to 9.30pm

Saturday 21st July 2018 - 12noon to 9.30pm

Sunday 22nd July 2018 - 12noon to 6pm

Opening weekend menu: click here to download.

PS: It is the Milford on Sea Music & Arts Festival this weekend, so a great opportunity to grab a bite in Piccolo's before or after you enjoy the music on the village green!

PPS: Piccolo's are not taking bookings this weekend, but you will be able to book from next week and full details will appear on this news site.

Message for Friends of the Festival

We have been asked to publish the message below from the Festival Organising Committee to all Friends of the Milford on Sea Festival:

"We couldn’t be more grateful for your support of the Milford on Sea Music and Arts Festival 2018 which celebrates and promotes our beautiful village and vibrant community.

To thank you for your contribution, loyalty and generous support we would love you to join us for our official celebratory opening on Thursday evening from 6pm in the marquee on the green and how better to show our appreciation than with a complementary glass of Prosecco when you present your Friends of the Festival Loyalty Card.  As a further thank you we invite you to keep your reusable glass to continue to enjoy drinks throughout the festival weekend and to keep as a souvenir.

We couldn’t stage this event without your support, so thank you again and we look forward to celebrating with you the official opening of this year’s wonderful festival."

The Festival Organising Committee went on to say;

"We are so proud of the whole line up including the new venue on the Sunday finishing with the NFO Proms Finale in the church which will have fabulous acoustics and the bonus of seating not to mention some shade and cakes."

Local New Housing Proposals

Many local residents have been concerned about a local house building proposal on what became known as the 'MOS1 & MOS2 sites.'

MOS1: The District Council has now refused Pennyfarthing’s planning application for 42 homes on land north of School Lane (MOS1). The District Councillors voted unanimously to reject the plans in their planning meeting yesterday. More info can be found by clicking here.

The developer could appeal the decision but the Parish Council will keep the community informed if this is the case.

-----------------------------

MOS2: The District Council has launched the next round of consultation for their revised Local Plan.
This puts forward a site north of Manor Road for “at least 110 houses” (MOS2).

The Parish Office has the District Council’s plans available for people to look at and paper copies of the forms, both are on their website (www.milfordonsea.org.uk) and Facebook page from today.

Full plans and online comments can be accessed from NFDC’s website by clicking here

The closing date for comments is 12th August 2018. The item will be discussed at the Parish Council meeting this Monday 16th July, 6.30pm in the Village Hall.

Smile for Isla

Village Charity Shop manager ,Caroline Taylor has sent us some details of a campaign close to her heart.
Smile for Isla is a little girl with a very rare form of cancer, and she has  simple wish in wanting everyone to smile.

Caroline tells us that today, one of the Village Charity Shop's customers came in today and gave this clown stone which she had painted for Isla.

One of our volunteers has now taken the stone , on its next journey.

If anyone else would like to paint a stone for Isla, Caroline would be happy to place them in the shop window.
