New Single from Captain Crash 'Goodbye Mr Blue Sky'

Local band, Captain Crash & The Magic Hats, who feature two long-term Milford on Sea village residents, released their latest single 'Goodbye Mr Blue Sky' on the 11th April 2025.

To listen to their new track, please click here.

"Goodbye Mr Blue Sky" is a wistful song reflecting on the fleeting nature of childhood and the selective beauty of memory, tinged with the nostalgic echo of ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky," a chart hit during the writer's youth. The lyrics depict a gentle departure ("When night comes around, you know I won't be here") and the feeling of naturally moving on.

Referencing "Mr. Blue Sky" ("Goodbye Mr Blue Sky, I remember it so well, always seems better, than it really was"), the song explores how past experiences are often idealised in retrospect. The imagery of wandering "dusty roads" and a faded love ("my love for you is gone") illustrates the individual journeys and evolving connections that come with time.

Ultimately, "When Night Comes Around" offers a poignant reflection on the passage of time and the quiet acceptance of change, deeply connected to personal childhood memories and the enduring soundtrack of "Mr. Blue Sky."

All Captain Crash & The Magic Hats singles, videos and other tracks can be seen on their YouTube channel by clicking here.

They are also available to download on all major music platforms such as Spotify, Apple iTunes, Amazon Music and other music sources.

Their first radio-friendly single, entitled 'Anywhere' was launched in March 2024.

This was followed by the single 'Sunlight Shines' in July 2024.

Next was the song, Converse Universe which explores the theme of isolation and the challenges of connection.

Converse Universe is about how the metaphor of "orbiting worlds" represents individual realities that may intersect but often remain separate.

The lyrics convey a sense of melancholy and longing, suggesting the difficulty of finding lasting connection in a vast universe. The song's repetitive structure and melancholic tone contribute to its emotional impact, leaving the listener with a sense of introspection and contemplation about the complexities of human existence.

About Captain Crash & The Magic Hats

The band were born after a 2012 jam session with local musician Pauly Gordelier.

Their two demo albums blend bluesy rock with 60s/70s influences, adding psychedelic flair and ethereal melodies. Imagine The Smiths jamming with Lou Reed or Pink Floyd with Radiohead whispering in their ear.

Their music carries an ecological message, but the raw passion and storytelling truly resonate. This is music for the soul, straight up and authentic.

Darrell 'Crash' Kennedy is the band's singer/songwriter & rhythm guitarist, and Greg, the drummer, both live in Milford on Sea.

Crash works as a community nurse, Greg is a drum tutor with published books for special needs kids

The Big Walk from Hurst Castle Sailing Club

On Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May 2025, animal lovers from Milford on Sea and the surrounding areas will come together at 8.30am at Hurst Castle Sailing Club to walk and raise awareness of The Cinnamon Trust.

This local walk is part of the charity’s nationwide event called The Big Walk. The walk is for 2.5 miles (4km) with or without your dog, at your own pace and will last around an hour.

The Cinnamon Trust’s Big Walk invites animal lovers nationwide to meet up with like-minded people, learn more about the charity’s services, and help spread the word within the pet owner community. By raising awareness, the event ensures that pet owners struggling to care for their pet know support is available while also encouraging more volunteers to join and help provide that vital care.

With over 35 locations nationwide confirmed and growing, The Big Walk will be a day of fun and community spirit, all while celebrating the difference volunteers make in the lives of those who need it most.

The Trust invites everyone to join this life-changing walk, learn about the charity’s important work, and help spread the word. Share the news with colleagues, with a neighbour in need, or register as a volunteer. Every person has a part to play and can make a positive difference in someone’s life.

Mandy Llewellyn, local volunteer and Big Walk organiser, adds: “The Cinnamon Trust supports people so they can keep their treasured pets, whilst sharing the joy of their pets with people who love animals but can't have their own. The mutual gain is amazing.

I have a part-time Cinnamon dog who gets to stay with his mum; and I get the pleasure of walking him. His mum gets to keep her companion of 14 years. Through the Big Walk we can spread the word about The Trust and create more connections. We can also raise some money to support the charity to make all this happen.”

Register today and claim your free goody bag on the day of the event. Those joining the walk with their dogs will get a special 40th anniversary bandana for their furry companion.

Join the fun and be the hero who helps someone in need find the support they deserve!

To register, please click here.

This year’s Big Walk is proudly sponsored by The Pets Larder, an award-winning natural pet shop dedicated to the well-being of pets and their owners.
