Meet Gary & Sally Prince: Owners of The Village Voice

Gary & Sally are not only the owners of The Village Voice, they also create and publish various other local community magazine titles in the areas surrounding Milford on Sea.

The magazines are more than just pages; they are a vibrant mix of community stories, event guides, fascinating local history articles, and quality editorials
.
Each issue features a diverse range of advertisements, providing useful information on local services to local people, and the magazines are a powerful platform for local tradespeople and businesses to connect with potential customers.

Collectively, the magazines reach over 80,000 residents in Milford on Sea, Lyminqton, Hordle, Everton, Barton-on-Sea, New Milton. Hiqhcliffe-on-Sea, Ashley, Bashley, Chewton, Friars Cliff, Mudeford, Walkford, and Wootton.

Gary & Sally Prince
 with Bertie
Gary grew up in the North-west on the Fylde Coast, his wife Sally originates from Burton upon Trent.

They married in 1996 in the Midlands and moved first to Wareham in 2000 and then across to Barton on Sea in 2003. Living in Farm Lane South until 2021, they then moved a few hundred yards as the crow flies to a ‘project’ in Danes Close.

Gary went into the Royal Signals as a boy soldier which is where he started to play golf. In his late 20’s he decided golf was to be his career and worked at various clubs as an assistant pro, taking his first role as Head Professional at Branston Golf and Country Club in February where he met Sally who was a leisure member. Married in 1996 as the second time for both, Gary has a son, Daniel who still lives and runs two very successful businesses on the Fylde Coast.

Gary’s job took him to Wareham Golf Club and the finally Barton on Sea Golf Club as the Manager from 2003 to 2009.

Sally went into estate agency after leaving college eventually moving into new homes where she worked for several major developers over her 35 year career.

In 2009 Gary decided to work for himself and do something completely different: The Barton Bugle was created. In the next 8 years the magazines grew from 1 to 5 covering Barton, New Milton And Highcliffe. In the very early days they were all delivered by Gary with Sally doing a few local streets. This soon became impractical so a team was formed and the last time Gary and Sally had to deliver was in 2019 when one of the regular team in Highcliffe was unwell. Nowadays, all magazines are delivered by Royal Mail.

In 2018 Sally retired and joined Gary - they now split the responsibilities on a daily basis with Gary looking after bookings and Sally looking after the book-keeping and invoicing. However, in the run up to publication it is all hands on deck to layout and proof read before sending to print.

Gary still enjoys his golf, though no longer a professional, he plays in the UK Seniors Golf and regularly at Brockenhurst. During lockdown he took up cycling which he still enjoys.

Sally doesn’t play golf, although she comes from a golfing family- her main hobby is singing. Over the years she has sung in musicals and operettas in the Midlands but in the last 20 or so years has performed with Zing, Encore, Lymington Choral Society, New Forest Orchestra, Lymington Town band, Total Voice Chamber Choir and now Milford Choralia. Gary also has a fine singing voice but at the moment has too many demands on his time.

Their shared passion is their Bernese Mountain Dog, Bertie who is a great source of joy to them and keeps them on their toes!

Gary & Sally say that their aims for The Village Voice are to continue the excellent work of our predecessors Sue and Jacqui and to follow the same goals that they have for all of their magazines:
to inform and entertain local residents, to help local groups and charities publicise their activities and events, and to help local businesses promote their services to the local community.

Today their seven publications include The Village Voice, Lymington Directory, Barton Bugle, New Milton Mail, Highcliffe Herald East & West, and New Milton Mercury.

If Gary & Sally can help you in any way they would love to hear from you.

Aubrey Farm Land sold to The Environment Agency

Last week the BBC reported that "The Environment Agency has begun purchasing land ahead of plans to adapt a stretch of coastline because of climate change.

The agency bought 160 hectares of arable farmland around Keyhaven, Hampshire, as part of its legal obligation to replace any future loss of habitat.

The move is part of a review of the 15km (9.3 mile) stretch of coastline between Keyhaven, Pennington marshes, and Lymington."

To read full article, please click here.

On the 9th December 2024, we published an article 'Aubrey Farm introduces The Keyhaven Natural Capital Scheme.'

The article explained that we had read on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust website that The Keyhaven Natural Capital Scheme is being delivered on the 605-acre Aubrey Farm in Keyhaven by Kingwell (Aubrey) Ltd.

Once established, the land is to be turned over from farming to nature, to create a 1,000-acre ‘Nature Reserve’ that connects a site of special scientific interest, a Ramsar wetlands site, and special conservation areas to the west of the Pennington Marshes.

To form The Keyhaven Natural Capital Scheme, land owners, Kingwell have partnered with New Forest District Council, New Forest National Park Authority and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.

The scheme aims to deliver the first Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Nitrate Mitigation scheme in the New Forest. It also looks to mitigate water quality impacts from development sites within the New Forest District and National Park areas.

Developers now must ensure wildlife is left in a better state than it was before any development takes place. This requires a 10% improvement or ‘Biodiversity Net Gain’.

To read full article, please click here.

It now appears that nearly 400 acres of farmland around Keyhaven has been bought by the Environment Agency only months after it was revealed it’s being turned into a nature reserve associated with a nitrate mitigation project, the Keyhaven Natural Capital Scheme.

Map of Keyhaven land
purchased by Environment Agency
Reports in the Advertiser & Times have stated that the land is part of the 605-acre Aubrey Farm at Keyhaven, owned by Kingwell (Aubrey) Ltd.

The land is understood to include fields adjacent to Sturt Pond Nature Reserve.

It is further understood that Kingwell will continue to operate its nitrate management scheme on the land the Environment Agency now owns.
