Parish Council investigate Solar Panels in Field Concept

A recent article by Roz Waters in the Advertiser & Times reported on a 'Solar panel ambition for Milford Parish Council'.

The idea is that a field owned by Milford on Sea Parish Council could be developed into a small solar farm.

A previous plan to create a woodland area on the site close to Scholar’s Retreat were shelved due to coastal erosion and weather conditions.

Until recently, the green space was used for grazing livestock, however, the previous tenant has now left the fields.

This potential project is currently at an early stage and investigations are taking place to establish the feasibility of the idea.

About Friends of NCF

In 2007 the founders of Friends of NCF, Steve and Liz Jennings went to Kampala. Whilst there they met some inspirational local Ugandans who had begun a small mission teaching slum children and supporting their families. They returned home determined to help the children and families living in the slum community in Namuwongo and ‘Friends’ was born.

Support started with the sponsorship of children in secondary education and then developed into fundraising for a school building. As the project continued to grow, ‘Friends’ began to finance a feeding programme to help the undernourished children receive a meal during their school day.

Friends of NCF also provide a free newsletter for moral or financial supporters, and welcome anyone wishing to do a fundraising event or challenge. To find out more please contact Matthew at: office@friendsofncf.org

Successful Village Show with a Giant Iguana!

It was fantastic to see more than 350 people attend the Milford on Sea Village Show, which took place on Saturday 6th July 2024 in All Saints' Church Hall.

Visitors were able to see all of the competition entries and winners, as well as displays for the fruit, vegetables and flower classes. There was also flower arranging exhibits, crafts for all ages, and art & photography.

People were also able watch bees at work, and buy the honey. A raffle was also held in aid of New Forest Basics Bank.

Michael Turner, bought along Iggy, his giant Iguana sculpture climbing a driftwood tree. As you might expect, visitors were more than impressed with his craftmanship. It is not surprising though, as Michael is an Internationally renowned stainless steel artist, as well as a Milford on Sea resident.

You can see more of his work here: www.michaelturnerstudios.co.uk.

This event marked 130 years since the first recorded Milford on Sea Village Show was held here in the village.

The organising committee would like to thank everyone who entered, visited, donated and sponsored this traditional village event.

The show will return in 2025 on 28th June... The team hope to see you there!

Greg Pepper writes New Single entitled 'Sunlight Shines'

Local band, Captain Crash & The Magic Hats, who feature two long-term Milford on Sea village residents, are releasing another single entitled 'Sunlight Shines'.

The lyrics for the song Sunlight Shines are written for Captain Crash & The Magic Hats by Milford on Sea, and the bands, talented drummer and support vocalist, Greg Pepper. Greg commented:

"Sunlight Shines is primarily about people that have gone over the top on hallucinogens etc and the effect on their mental health. Which in turn impacts their ability to deal with life in a rational way and can change their personality beyond recognition perhaps plunging them into darkness and shadow. Closing the door they can be lost for good."

It is understood that the song is written very much with the life of Syd Barrett, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, in mind.

The published release date for the single is 26th July 2024:

----------------------
About Captain Crash & The Magic Hats

The band were born after a 2012 jam session with local musician Pauly Gordelier.

Their two demo albums blend bluesy rock with 60s/70s influences, adding psychedelic flair and ethereal melodies. Imagine The Smiths jamming with Lou Reed or Pink Floyd with Radiohead whispering in their ear.

Their music carries an ecological message, but it's the raw passion and storytelling that truly resonates. This is music for the soul, straight up and authentic.

Darrell 'Crash' Kennedy is the band's singer/songwriter & rhythm guitarist. He is based in Milford on Sea, and has lived here for most of his adult life.

Captain Crash & The Magic Hats Band Members are: Darrell 'Crash' Kennedy: Guitars and vocals, Greg Pepper: Drums and vocals, Pauly Gordelier: Bass and guitars, and Arthur Rathbone Pullen: Synth.
