SUBBzero at JAM this Friday

SUBBzero are this month’s jazz guests at JAM on Friday 24th January 2025 at 8pm in The Bridge.

SUBBzero is a local nine-piece band who have been performing their unique blend of jazz, ska and reggae since 2007. 

The band is the brainchild of local trombonist Peter Williams who has a long-standing passion for the Caribbean-influenced music of bands such as the Skatalites, Jazz Jamaica, and The New York Ska Ensemble, to name but a few.

Out of a Hat Play Reading on Wednesday

The next Out of a Hat impromptu play reading is on Wednesday afternoon, 22nd January 2025 from 3pm to 5.30pm. Feel free to go along and join in.

A fun afternoon where a play is read from scratch, picking the parts out of a hat to decide who reads which part.

Entrance is £5 per person and includes tea & cake. Pay on the Door.

Milford on Sea Probus Club: New Year & New Friends

Have you have recently moved to Milford on Sea, or perhaps you have lived here a for while and are looking for a way to form a new circle of friends, then maybe Milford Probus Club is for you?

The Milford Probus Club is for retired and semi-retired men, from a wide range of professional and business careers. 

Probus provides a network of like minded people in Milford on Sea - with many overlapping current interests; providing the opportunity to put down new roots and find new friendships.

The club meet at The South Lawn Hotel on the fourth Tuesday each month. Starting with coffee and time to catch up, we have a guest speaker presenting on local or historical interests followed by lunch.

Separate social activities are arranged by members informally, and they have an annual dinner with partners.

Karl's Souffle is also back.

Before becoming head chef at Ray's Italian Kitchen in June 2022, Karl Wiggins spent 13 years heading up the kitchen at The Mill at Gordleton.

During this time, Karl became well-known for the quality his dishes, one of the most popular on the menu was the classic cheese soufflé.

This is now back being served in Ray's Italian, this time with an Italian twist by adding Mozzarella and Parmesan!

Another Night of Vinyl with L8R

Milford on Sea based L8R Events are hosting A Journey by Vinyl, Vol 1 featuring trance classics played by international DJ and producer Lange.

The 2 hour 'vinyl only' set takes place on Saturday 1st February 2025 at Canvas, Bournemouth. The evening runs from at 8pm to 3am. Last entry 1am.


Influential dance artist, Lange will be supported by Marco Polo, Danny Rose and Miss Maxo. The 4 DJs, will play over 2 rooms with a laser light show.

About L8R

L8R are Milford on Sea based music event organisers run by village residents, Keith Willsher and his partner Fiona MacDuff.

Events created by L8R feature classic dance music and trance records, all played on original vinyl records from the era, creating a euphoric and nostalgic night of dancing and great house music.

Keith is also the host DJ (formally known as Marco Polo), and he plays iconic house & trance records from the 1990's to recreate memories of club nights and raves of yesteryear.

During the 1990's Keith performed at some of London's top nightclubs, including having a DJ residency at Peach in Camden Palace, Bagleys, and The Coliseum.

Fiona was a key part of the organiser team for the very successful Milford on Sea Music Festival in 2023. 

She also runs her own companies, Duff-T Tee's, which offers 'planet loving' streetwear clothing and merchandise designed by her in Milford on Sea. www.duff-t.com. And Kifi Creative, where Fiona creates brand identities, logos and websites for small to medium size companies.www.kificreative.com.

L8R hosted their first House Music Charity Night at The Bridge on Saturday 24th February 2024. Who knew Milford on Sea could sell out a night of house music?! The energetic evening event supported local charity Olivia Inspires, with 20% of ticket sales going to the charity. In total a donation of £274 was raised. Further charity dance music nights have been held since then.

The L8R Team continue to organise a variety of House Music Events in nearby venues.

Meal Deal this week at Sammy's Café

Sammy's Café are running a Meal Deal from Monday 13th January to Sunday 19th of January 2025.

The Meal Deal will be served from 12pm till 3:30pm, and this weeks menu is Steak pie, mash potato and vegetables - desert of the week - and any hot or cold drink. All for £14.50.

The Meal Deal for the week from Monday 20th January will be chicken stroganoff, sauté potatoes and cabbage. Then for after's apple crumble and custard or if preferred cream or ice cream.

This is a trial, but if it goes well, Sammy plans to have a different weekly meal deal every week.

Sammy's are now serving every day except Wednesday.

They offer breakfasts from 8am (9am on Saturday & Sunday). A range of lunches, homemade cakes all made by Sammy, teas and drinks are served until 4pm. There is also a Kids Menu, and afternoon cream teas can be pre-ordered to eat in or takeaway. The cafe is also dog friendly.

Sunday Roast Dinners

Each Last Sunday in the Month up until Easter Sunday, traditional and great value roast dinners will be served.

The meal includes one type of meat from a selection, roast potatoes, three veg, gravy and a homemade Yorkshire pudding. 

Regular Roast Dinner: £17pp - or go big for £20 which includes all the above plus pig in blanket and sage and onion stuffing.

Extras: Pig in blanket £2.50, Sage an onion stuffing £2, Cauliflower cheese £2.50, and Yorkshire pudding £1.50

Vegan and gluten free roast dinner options available.

Sittings: 12noon, 1:30pm and 3pm and the table is available for 1.5 hours.

New Full Fibre Broadband Drop In Sessions

A new Full Fibre Broadband service is on its way to Milford on Sea, and there are Drop In Sessions at The Bridge where you can find out more on Wednesday 15th & 22nd January 2025 from 10am to 1pm.

In mid December, Wessex Internet started installing the infrastructure for full fibre to the parts of Milford on Sea as part of a partially funded government contract, which is an ongoing project which will take approximately 3 months.

Wessex Internet have said that having full fibre to the property has no installation costs to the customer.

No need to book, just go along anytime between 10am and 1pm.

 The Verveine Supper Club has started once again at Verveine Fishmarket Restaurant and will be running again each month for the foreseeable future. 


This event provides a social gathering to meet new people, and at the same time experience David Wykes incredible dishes.

Choose How to Volunteer at Hurst Castle

Have you got some spare time and are thinking of volunteering in 2025? Then take a look at the three volunteer groups you could get involved with at Hurst Castle.

The Friends of Hurst Castle are a proactive local community group engaged in various activities, from assisting with improving the castle and it's artefacts to welcoming visitors and funding ongoing projects.

The Milford on Sea Historical Record Society, one of the nation's oldest local history societies, takes part in research about the castle's vast history to enrich knowledge and castle interpretation now and for the future.

Finally there's a small team from the Association of Lighthouse Keepers, who voluntarily contribute their ideas for new lighthouse-related displays for visitors whilst also taking care of the refurbishment and maintenance of the two Lighthouse Museum Rooms.

About the Friends of Hurst Castle

The Friends are a local support group to Hurst Castle who are also always happy to welcome new friends and volunteers.

Members support Hurst Castle with their membership fees. Some members provide hands-on help in any way they can, which over the years has included enhancement of the building, mounting information panels and displays, guiding visitors and research.

There is also an active social programme, and a regular newsletter; Hurst Tidings, which has published over 100 editions. As well as news about the castle, it features articles that range from history to the environment, as well as coverage of activities and events organised for all members to enjoy.

Annual Subscriptions:
  • Single: £14
  • Joint: £22.50: Includes two adults at one address.
  • Family: £35: Includes two adults at one address, and their children or grandchildren aged 17 and under.
Please Note: Only three children may be taken into the castle per visit.  Additional children will of course be welcome, at the current entry fee of £5.50 per child aged 5-17, while children under five remain free of charge.

Membership includes free entry to Hurst Castle.

Nominate Verveine and Others for the Advertiser & Times Food & Drink Awards

Nominations are now open for the A&T Food & Drink Awards 2025 and you have until 5pm on Friday 31st January 2025 to nominate Verveine, or another of your favourite village restaurant, pub, cafe or artisan maker, to make the voting shortlist.

There are a variety of categories, covering anyone associated with food.

The awards aim is to give credit where it is truly due and recognise those who work tirelessly to deliver exceptional food and drink.

How it works

You can nominate any food and drink business or individual based in the New Milton Advertiser & Lymington Times circulation area. There’s no limit to how many nominations you can make.
