Try Out Pilates with Jayne

Do you fancy trying out Pilates? Jayne of Fresh Pilates, runs Pilates classes in the village and she has some limited places in her Wednesday class in Milford on Sea. Please contact her if you would like to go along a try a fun & friendly Pilates class.

The controlled movements in the low impact Pilates exercises enhance your balance, core strength, mobility, flexibility, and even mood. Pilates is a way to focus on your smaller and deep muscles, which in turn supports your structure and can improve your overall health.

Captain Crackers at The Gun Inn

The Gun Inn in Keyhaven are welcoming a new local band, Captain Crackers and the Curiosities on Wednesday 10th January from 7.30pm.

Melissa offers Fitness Support for those that may need it

In August 2019, Melissa Page a village resident, qualified personal trainer and ex-lawyer who has a real passion for fitness, founded Walk for Wellness in Milford on Sea.

Melissa wanted to give something back to the community so she started free walking groups for anyone who would like to go along. The aim being for people to get some exercise and simultaneously have some social company.

Having led the group for many years, she is now looking to use her personal training skills to provide something different to help other people. 

 

With the Free Walk for Wellness group now self-sufficient, the current members plan to carry on walking.

Fitness Support with Melissa

Melissa is now offering to help to anyone in Milford on Sea who would like some 'one to one' assistance with walking, jogging or even some light strength work. 

If anyone needs some support towards fitness, or particular encouragement, she would be delighted to help.

She is also in contact with the Social Prescribing Facility at the Medical Centre in Milford on Sea, where they can refer anyone to Melissa for some individual fitness help. 

Melissa has a real passion for fitness, and has completed four running marathons for charity and the 26 mile Oakhaven Walk three years running, last year, whilst on holiday, running on her own in the Arizona desert in temperatures of over 100 degrees, raising well over £2000 for the local hospice.

Melissa is happy to chat to anyone who thinks she may be able to help them, a family member, or a friend.

Takeaway Sunday Roasts back at Pickled Weasel

The popular Takeaway Sunday Roasts and Desserts are back at the Pickled Weasel Bakehouse & Takeaway.

The Roast Dinner menu consists of: A choice of either Lamb, Turkey or Gammon......or some of each. Served with a selection of vegetables, Cauliflower Cheese, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, a yorkie and gravy.

There is also a choice of two desserts, either a apple & blackberry crumble or a syrup sponge pudding, with or without custard.

Everything is prepared and cooked on the premises.

Free Yoga Taster Session

Lucie from Ocean Soul Yoga, is a Milford on Sea based yoga teacher who is offering a Free Yoga Taster Session at her Vinyasa Flow Yoga Classes in the village. Newcomers will be very welcome.

The classes take place on:

• Monday evenings from 6pm to 7pm at The Bridge (Formerly Community Centre), 

and on: 

• Friday mornings from 9:30am to 10:30am in the Guide Hut in Sea Road.

The Ocean Soul Yoga Classes are taught in a vinyasa flow style, meaning movement with breath. This often continuous flow of movement makes for an invigorating practice, and adds to the rewarding feeling during savasana, a relaxed supine pose which is used to bring every practice to a close. 

You do not need to be experienced or able to touch your toes to join this class, just a willing desire to move up and down and around the mat in a fun and judgement free zone!

About Lucie and Ocean Soul Yoga

Lucie is an ocean lover and yoga enthusiast, and moved to Milford on Sea in 2020. Lucie’s family and friends are a big part of her life here, and when she’s not teaching yoga, or baby and preschool swimming, she is busy being Mum to Rubie-Lynn, Step-Mum to Madalyn and wife to American hubby Daniel.

Lucie takes great pleasure in anything ocean related. Paddle boarding, surfing, and scuba diving are all top of the list when it comes to ocean related sports and Lucie also enjoys sea swimming all-year round locally in the Solent. More often than not you will find her walking her dog Peaches or running to and from the village to pick up Rubie-Lynn.

Lucie has been teaching yoga since completing her yoga teacher training in 2016 and believes passionately in the benefits this practice can bring to the physical body as well as the mind.

 
She teaches vinyasa, hatha and restorative yoga, and is planning to complete a children's yoga training later this year and a pre and post natal yoga training next year.

Prior to moving to Milford on Sea, Lucie had a few transient years between the UK and America. For a number of years she was living and working in the Caribbean as a marine biologist specialising in sea turtles, whale sharks, and underwater buoy systems. She then went on to do a yoga teacher training in 2016 in Costa Rica, after which she moved to New Orleans to be with her then boyfriend, now husband Daniel, and worked offshore as a marine observer at sea on big dredge boats, and taught yoga at downtown yoga studios in New Orleans when on land.  

Lucie and Daniel were married in the village in 2022, and are now very happily settling into life in Milford on Sea.

Doors close on The New Forest Paddle Sports Company

We were sorry to hear that The New Forest Paddle Sports Company have ceased trading and it is clear that they will be very much missed by their customers.

Since 2015, Sean, Claire and their team have been based in Milford on Sea and providing water sports equipment, courses and various fun events & activities for paddle boarding, kayaking, wing surfing and wing foiling.

Initially they were based in a shop at 46 High Street, Milford on Sea, after which they relocated to Keyhaven Quay, and later opened a Water Sports Shop at West Solent Boat Builders in Keyhaven Boatyard.

Sadly, it appears the difficult economy, and possibly troubled weather, has taken its toll. This is a real shame for Sean, Claire, and all of their many customers who it is clear, really enjoyed the services they offered.

The New Forest Paddle Sports Company Facebook page announcing the closure has over 50 warm comments, with lots of customers thanking them for introducing them to paddleboarding, and for the great times people had enjoyed with them on the water around Milford on Sea.

Owner & instructor, Sean Scott said: "Its with a heavy heart we have had to close the New Forest Paddle Sport Co. We have had so many great times over the last 8 years and hopefully have helped many people to find the joy of paddling. We hope to still see you all on the water. Thank you to all our customers for their support and also thanks to all of our incredible instructors."

We wish Sean and Claire well for whatever they go on to do, and hope they they are back providing fun on the water sometime in the not too distant future.
