Ellie plays in first professional golf event

Local Milford on Sea schoolgirl, Ellie Mans had an amazing experience at her first professional golf event, the Rose Ladies Series at the beautiful Brockenhurst Manor Golf Club.

Shooting 75 (T14) with some great wedge play, sadly too many putts slipped by with 10 birdie opportunities within 15 feet & just two conversions. On her bag for the round was Kevin Flynn, PGA Coach of England South Boys who was a phenomenal caddy and Stuart Mitchell, match referee said, “Ellie played so well - definitely looked at home amongst these great golfers.”

Ellie thought Brockenhurst Manor was “in awesome condition, the greens were just perfect, such a joy to play on.”

New Novel from Village Author

Milford on Sea resident, Ian Hey has published a humorous thriller novel entitled; No Lift and No Stairs.

Ian moved down to Milford just over 7 years ago with his partner, Anne. He has also appeared in the last six Milford Pantomimes and played Ken in Wendy Mason’s acclaimed production of Rumours at the Community Centre at the end of last October.

Advanced copies are now on sale in The Village News at the foot of the village green.

More about No Lift and No Stairs.

A hilarious combination of thriller, romance and comedy, sprinkled liberally with banter and drama for an entertaining ride.

Inspired by the author's 20+ years of experience in the removals industry and written in a relatable tone, despite the thrilling plot.

38-year-old Hawkwind fan and Stoneway’s removal porter Peter Booth has recently split up with long-time girlfriend, Sarah, and finds himself in a tiny studio flat, self-confidence dwindling and alcohol levels rising.

Possible salvation appears in the form of Stoneway’s new employee, the attractive and sophisticated, Emily. A relationship tentatively blossoms but Peter is aghast to learn that Emily’s baggage not only includes her overprotective and impudent teenage son, Charlie but also her jealous ex-husband, the notorious local crime lord, Ray Henderson.

Peter finds himself unwittingly dragged into an underworld of sexual intrigue, blackmail and murder.

Set against the backdrop of council estates, squats, pubs, cafĂ©’s, Saturday afternoon football and the omnipresent humour of removal men, No Lift and No Stairs is a romcom thriller full of colourful characters that won’t let the reader rest until the very last page.

Note: The book contains some ‘boy’s talk’ bad language, and adult themes but, hopefully, nothing too untoward.

After his partner mentioned that his writing was funny in 2007, Ian started writing in earnest.
Since then, he has had three of his One Act plays performed at The Cornerhouse in Tolworth, Surrey as part of their OneAct Festival. No Lift and No Stairs is his debut novel. Ian now lives in Milford on Sea with his partner Anne, and Lola, their wire-haired dachshund.
