Have you ever been to the Sturt Pond Bird Hide?
The entrance is tucked in alongside The Lighthouse café/bar on Milford on Sea beach at the start of Hurst Spit.
Sturt pond is a haven for swans, ducks, Brent geese, mallard, teal, shelduck & grebes. The Bird Hide is free to enter and open to the public every day (but locked at night) The hide gives you an elevated view over the whole of the pond and the abundance of activity.
Close by are two wooden bridges which cross the stream which runs from Sturt Pond to the salt marshes and where you can get further views of the wildlife or even try some crabbing. (Nets & buckets available from Milford News by the village green in the village centre.) The marshes of Keyhaven Nature Reserve have an abundance of wading birds including little egret, redshank, ringed plover, oystercatcher, dunlin & curlew, plus a whole variety of regularly changing visitors.
