The History of Milford on Sea Community Centre 1915 to 2023

A detailed History of Milford on Sea Community Centre from 1915 to 2023 has been documented, telling the story of the building, and the people who created the Community Centre for the village.

This chronological record takes you from the original Church Hall on the site, through to the various organisations that went on the own the land and building, and how the Community Centre started from the dream of one man, Barry Phillips.

It documents the original Youth Club, many years of fundraising for the new building led by Sue Whitlock and Marguerite Willcox, the temporary Community Centre, the major role of Margaret Richens making the new building and National Lottery funding a reality, right through to today and the renaming of the building to The Bridge, and much more.

Over the years many trustees, and the ever critical volunteers, have worked tirelessly through the journey and without their individual contributions we would not have the excellent community facility we see today.

From the outset, the aim was 'To bring together the whole community and all ages across the village', I think we can be delighted to say that this is continually achieved.

Thanks for history contributions go to: Margaret Richens, Sue Whitlock, Marguerite Willcox, Jenny Spenser, James Flintoff, Bob Braid, Zena Gibson, Bob Bishop, and Linda Bagnall.

  • Any idea why they are wearing and making hats?
  • Are they a part of a village organisation?
  • The date the photo was taken? (It is believed to be before 2014)
  • Anything else that comes to mind?

School Funding

In these difficult economic times school funding is at an all time low, and the school relies heavily on funds being raised by the hardworking PFA. Our local school is certainly something to be proud of, and the teachers and parents there raise many well-educated and well-rounded young children.

A few raffle ticket might not seem much, but every penny goes towards supporting the education of our next generation.

Do you know any Groundworks Companies?

The PFA also have a huge project in the planning for 2024 which will require a lot of groundwork. so if you know of any companies that would be interested in helping, please get in touch at mospspfa@outlook.com.

School Disco

The PFA raised an incredible £972 at the School Disco on Friday 17th November 2023. The kids had a great time dancing to 'We Need a DJ', and the PFA were grateful to all the parents who stayed & helped.

About the PFA

The Parent Friends Association (PFA) are a committee of volunteer parents of children currently at the school.

The PFA is a registered charity working to raise funds for our village school. At the start of each school year, they work with the teachers and pupils to understand what they would like to have at their school, and then embark on a range of fundraising ideas and events to help to provide those little, and not so little, extras that the school budget cannot cover.

Hidden gold on the Green!

Last Friday, following a fantastic team effort by members of the Milford on Sea Gardeners' Club, Milford Conservation Volunteers (MCV), Meadow Gardeners and some welcome “muscle” from Josh and Laurence who are employed by the parish council as groundsmen, over 700 mixed daffodils were planted around the edges of the Village Green.

This project was masterminded and organised by Sue Crabb, Chair of the Milford Gardeners’ Club, who has long felt we needed some daffodils to greet visitors to the village in the spring.

Many thanks to all those who helped with the planting, we look forward to a lovely display, come February and March 2024.
