WI Food Bank Collection

The WI will be collecting food, household goods and cash donations for New Forest Basics Bank on Saturday 1st April from 9 am to 12am on Milford on Sea Village Green.

Please support the WI as this is a much needed local charity. (No Easter eggs or perishable items please.)

If you can add a few things each week to your shopping list and then drop off on the day, this will really help people struggling in these tough times.

If you can help someone less fortunate, please do.

----------------------------------------------

New Forest Basics Bank
provide Food And Basics For People In Need Across The New Forest.

The Basics Bank offers non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items, and basic household essentials. The food parcels have sufficient supplies for one week for one person and is increased to cover the number of family members for which a request is made.

There are many reasons why people may find themselves needing the support of a food bank. For example when the main earner in the household looses their job, a medical condition, a change in personal circumstances or a large unforeseen bill that leaves inadequate or no money for food. All parcels are a stop gap to support clients through troubled times.

Holland's Amazon & DPD Pickup Parcel Service

Did you know, Holland's of Milford now offers an Amazon and DPD Pick Up and Drop Off Parcel service?

If you are ordering items online, and you have an option to select an Amazon or DPD Pickup, this will allow you to have your parcel delivered to Holland's of Milford. You can be notified by email or SMS text when your parcel is ready to collect, and you'll have up to 7 days to collect at a time to suit you.

One of the great delights of Milford on Sea is the excellent range of independent shops we have in our village centre. One of the busiest and most popular is Holland's of Milford, an independent family grocer, supermarket and off licence situated in the centre of the High Street.

The shop now stocks over 2500 Products and run regular promotions to save you money.

Their range includes all of the big brands you would expect to see elsewhere, and indeed everything you may need for your fresh local produce, daily meals, fresh bread,  wine, beer & spirits, kitchen cupboard stocks, household items for daily use and naughty treats for celebration times.

Another delight is the Cheese Counter & Cold Meat Delicatessen, which is hard to beat for miles around. They also love to support local suppliers and stock a tasty range of local New Forest Marque produce.

You can even get your lottery tickets, although winners can’t be guaranteed!

It is likely that you have shopped there many times, and like me, have been amazed how much can fit into such a small space! I wonder however if you realise all that they do? They offer so much more than your daily groceries, including a Takeaway Service for hot drinks and hot snacks.

The Free Home Delivery Service provides a convenient and friendly way of doing your shopping. Anyone can use the service, you can simply place your order by telephone for later collection, or arrange a home delivery by calling: 01590 641882. Alternatively just pop in and select your own shopping and have it delivered. Delivery is free for all orders over £50.

Holland's Opening Hours are:
Monday to Saturday: 7am until 8pm and Sunday: 8am until 7pm - Ensuring that they are open for when you need them.

If you are not familiar with the shop, you will find Holland's of Milford right in the centre of Milford on Sea High Street, next to the village green. The High Street has free parking, and there are also a pay & display car park in Sea Road, opposite the store.

A unique independent village shop offering so much deserves our support, and I for one will try and buy more locally across the village rather than using the large supermarkets. Why not join me, although best to come in when I am not there, I am pretty difficult to pass in the aisles!

Meet The Butchers on the Green

Butchers on the Green in Milford on Sea is known not just for its fresh meat cut and joints and easy to cook pre-prepared meals, but also much more, and of course their friendly service.

Meet the two men behind making this village butchers such a success:

Keith Potter: Keith has been enjoying the south coast for around 30 years. In this time he has had a number of successful butchers shops in the surrounding areas including Southbourne and Pennington.

He prides himself on providing great customer service and ensuring every customer that walks through the door gets an unique pleasurable shopping experience each and every time. However be warned that some of his jokes are eye rolling bad but he makes up for that on being able to hold a note pretty well if you are lucky enough to be serenaded by him whilst you are perusing the vast range of meats available.

He’s a real asset to any business and the backbone to ensuring your local butchers shop remains a success.

Alex Farr: Alex has around 17 years experience in the industry and has spent time developing flavours and ingredients that butcher use internationally to this day.

In his time he has visited a lot of butchers, both independent and mass production sites to identify what it takes to be successful in this industry, his mind comes up with the most unusual flavour combinations that he enjoys showcasing in his displays, and in sausages (his most recent is a margarita pizza flavoured sausage) they all seem to work and are enjoyed by (pretty much) everyone that tries them!

He also spent time demonstrating BBQ cooking techniques showcasing how to BBQ to beginners and enthusiasts.

The guys commented: “We are proud to be part of this community and are looking forward to serving the residents of Milford on Sea for many years to come.”

------------------------------------------------

Butchers on the Green are an independently owned Milford on Sea butchers shop offering an everchanging variety of creative and easy to cook pre-prepared meals - plus meat cuts & joints, handmade burgers, numerous flavours of gluten free sausages, traditionally cured bacon, mince, pies, pasties, ham, pate, chorizo, BBQ packs, fresh fish, cheese and eggs. Safety Barriers installed on Seafront

The promenade in front of the beach huts in Milford on Sea now has a safety barrier to prevent anyone falling over the previously exposed edge.

The level of the beach in this area is ever changing, and the shingle shifts on a regular basis creating a significant and potentially dangerous drop. At present the drop is not too dramatic, but this will change at any time.

When the beach is replenished by the import of truck loads of shingle, it does not take long for the tides to take the stones down the coast to Hurst Spit.

The current beach huts on Milford on Sea seafront were completed in May 2017, This was three years after the 80mph+ winds tore down the original beach huts in the infamous Valentine's Day Storm in 2014.
