Sea Fishing & Boat Trips from Keyhaven

Have you ever fancied a day sea fishing from Keyhaven Harbour, or a sightseeing boat trip to The Needles?

Well, two experienced sea fisherman operate from Keyhaven, Reel Easy and Greg Pitt Sea Fishing, both offer various fishing trips for both experienced and novice sea anglers, as well as charter sightseeing boat trips.

GREG PITT

Greg Pitt offers Sea Fishing & Sightseeing Boat Trips.

Sea fishing trips can range from 3 to 6 hours from the end of March to December. Maximum 6 people per trip.

Rods tackle and bait is supplied on fishing trips and don't worry if you've never fished before as you will be shown what to do. Fishing is usually south of the Needles Lighthouse or in Christchurch Bay.

These are mixed species fishing trips, so you never really know what you're going to catch but to give you an idea here's an approximate guide to the usual suspects:

- April/May: Smooth-hound, conger eel, dogfish, pout, bream arrive in May.
- June, July & September: As above plus; tope, rays, bream in June, possibly mackerel in July & September.
- October to December: conger eel, ray, whiting, dogfish, pout.

Private Charter Needles Boat Trips

Sightseeing 2 hour boat trips to The Needles. (or 3 hours if you would like to include optional mackerel fishing). Available from late March to October. Maximum of 8 people per trip.

Close up views of the famous Needles rocks & lighthouse and Alum bay coloured sands.

Departing from Keyhaven on board Osprey II the sightseeing trip passes close to Hurst Castle before following the main shipping channel out to the Needles for some great close up views of the famous rocks and lighthouse, if the sea conditions are suitable you will then venture a little further past the Needles and into Scratchells Bay with views of the former rocket testing site high up on the white cliffs that stretch along this part of the Isle of Wight into Freshwater Bay.

From there you will return round the Needles once again and follow the foot of the cliffs into Alum bay with it's famous coloured sand cliffs, after leaving Alum bay it is a slow gentle cruise along the island shore taking in the sights through Totland Bay, Colwell Bay and passing close to Fort Albert and Fort Victoria before crossing the Solent once again back into Keyhaven.

For the birdwatchers there are usually plenty of different species to see on the marshes and mud flats at Keyhaven and on The Needles Rock, sometimes a seal or two put in an appearance.

Kevin Williams started out fishing in the Solent with a small wooden boat and a little engine, much to his parents’ dismay. 40 years later, he is a fully licensed charter skipper and owner of Reel Easy Angling Charters. With age comes experience, and Kev is more than happy to help and guide you when you come aboard.

If you are trying fishing for the first time or have little experience, Kevin will be there to help you bait up and reel in your catch.
