The Milford-on-Sea Historical Record Society was founded in 1909 and went into abeyance in the 1950s when its members felt that their exhaustive studies had revealed the totality of Milford’s history.
One young local resident, Chris Hobby, dissented from this view and campaigned with others for the re-establishment of MoSHRS in order to dig more deeply into the local history of the village. He was successful in pursuit of this goal and a newly reformed MoSHRS was set up in 1973, and it was the anniversary of this event which was celebrated at this January’s meeting.

The speaker at the fiftieth celebration was Mr. Will Reid of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, who outlined the magnitude of the Commission’s work as well as illustrating his talk with local anecdotes to illuminate its central themes.
The meeting ended with a celebratory buffet. Members raised their glasses and cheered when the Chairman proposed a toast to “the next fifty years of MoSHRS”.
