Milford on Sea Commemorates VE Day

In these unprecedented times, Milford on Sea's planned commemorations of the 75th Anniversary of VE Day were badly affected. Badly effected, but not scuppered, as the village spirit ensured that this special occasion was marked appropriately to recognise all of the sacrifices made by so many during World War Two.

The village green saw an emotional and impeccably observed two minutes silence at 11am. People had gathered to pay their respects, and although they were apart (by the 2 metre social distancing), they were together in spirit.

Passing traffic even stopped for the silence and this was followed by a heart felt round of applause.

The morning was certainly a poignant occasion in these troubled times.

Paul French captured a really nice collection of photograph of the morning, please click here to view.

The village doorstop album also now contains photos of some people celebrating VE Day on their doorstep. To view please click here. (Keep sending your village Doorstep Photos please!)

Gillingham and Lucerne Road celebrated VE Day with a VE Day Social Distancing Party. You can see the video below, plus some pictures from other celebrations.
