Melleford Restaurant open for evening of Christmas Lights Switch On

Melleford Restaurant at the foot of Milford on Sea village green, will be open from 5pm on the evening of the Christmas Lights Switch On and Carols on the Green on Saturday 30th November 2024.

Take in the atmosphere and watch the evening unfold over a tasty meal in the warm.

Christmas Wreath Workshop hosted by Milford Floral Art Club

A Christmas Wreath Workshop is being hosted in All Saints' Church Hall by Milford Floral Art Club at 2pm on Friday 6th December 2024. Doors open at 1.30pm.

Come along for a fun and festive afternoon and take home your own beautiful Christmas Creation.

Pre-booked Tickets only as places limited: 
£25 for members and £35 for visitors

Materials provided, but you are welcome to bring additional embellishments. Refreshments will also be served on the afternoon.

About Milford Floral Art Club

Milford Floral Art Club are a thriving, active and sociable floral art club who were founded in Milford on Sea in June 1983, and they have members of all age groups and backgrounds.

Demonstrations from professional NAFAS demonstrators or workshops lead by fellow flower enthusiasts, floral sundries for sale, refreshments, raffles and more. 

Everyone is welcome to come and join them for a fun filled afternoon with fellow flower lovers.

The club generally meet on second Thursday of each month at 2pm to 4pm (Doors open 1.30pm) at All Saints' Church Hall, Greenbanks Close, Milford on Sea, SO41 0SQ. 

Visitors Most Welcome for a small charge.

Sammy's Sunday Roast Dinners

Since launching and serving Sunday Roast Dinners at the beginning of November, they are proving very popular indeed.

Each Sunday, the meal includes one type of meat, roast potatoes, three veg, gravy and a homemade Yorkshire pudding for just £17pp - or go big for £20.

Vegan and gluten free roast dinner options available.

Sittings: 12noon, 1:30pm and 3pm and the table is available for 1.5 hours.

Free Trance Classics Night with L8R Events

Milford on Sea based L8R Events are hosting a Free Event, A Journey by Vinyl, thanks to sponsors Recycle Vinyl.

The event takes place on Saturday 30th November 2024 from 10pm to 4am at Canvas, Bournemouth.

The night will feature trance classics, all played on original vinyl by established DJ's, Marco Polo, Ranj Kaler, Miss Maxo, and Danny Rose.

About L8R

L8R are Milford on Sea based music event organisers run by village residents, Keith Willsher and his partner Fiona MacDuff.

Events created by L8R feature classic dance music and trance records, all played on original vinyl records from the era, creating a euphoric and nostalgic night of dancing and great house music.

Keith is also the host DJ (formally known as Marco Polo), and he plays iconic house & trance records from the 1990's to recreate memories of club nights and raves of yesteryear.

During the 1990's Keith performed at some of London's top nightclubs, including having a DJ residency at Peach in Camden Palace, Bagleys, and The Coliseum.

Fiona was a key part of the organiser team for the very successful Milford on Sea Music Festival in 2023. 

She also runs her own companies, Duff-T Tee's, which offers 'planet loving' streetwear clothing and merchandise designed by her in Milford on Sea. www.duff-t.com. And Kifi Creative, where Fiona creates brand identities, logos and websites for small to medium size companies.www.kificreative.com.

L8R hosted their first House Music Charity Night at The Bridge on Saturday 24th February 2024. Who knew Milford on Sea could sell out a night of house music?! The energetic evening event supported local charity Olivia Inspires, with 20% of ticket sales going to the charity. In total a donation of £274 was raised. Further charity dance music nights have been held since then.

The L8R Team continue to organise a variety of House Music Events in nearby venues.

Sarah Bolter and Not Just Sax at JAM on Friday

This month’s jazz guests at JAM on Friday 22nd November 2024 at 8pm are Sarah Bolter and her band, Not Just Sax bring the captivating sounds of the saxophone and more to The Bridge.

Sarah is a master of the saxophone, clarinet, flute and vocals. 

‘Not Just Sax’, was formed in 2002 with Ray Shea on piano, Pete Maxfield on double bass and Johnny Eyden on drums. All of the musicians have years of experience in creating great jazz.

New MenMeet Quiz welcomes all men in village

MenMeet are holding their first Quiz Night at their next meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday 21st November 2024 at The Beach House. Any local men are invited to go along.

This will be a new venture for MenMeet and the quiz will be presented by Julian Richards. Julian promises it will be fun and not like any other quiz night you may have experienced!

The evening is free to attend, and would be enjoyed by any men in Milford on Sea who would like to socially & informally meet and chat.

MenMeet is a place when men can socially meet and informally chat in Milford on Sea, as well as listen to free talks in a varied programme.

The group meets on the third Thursday each Month at The Beach House.

The evening is free to attend and open to all men in the village to go along with no charge.

The organisation is done by some friendly guys from the local churches, including Tony Styles. The gatherings are of general interest, and you do not have to be a church goer to attend and meet with other local men.

Retro Grooves at Milford on Sea Club this Saturday

Milford on Sea Club have a programme of entertainment for you between now and Christmas, starting this Saturday.

Retro Grooves: Saturday 23rd November 2024: 7pm to 11pm.

Go along to an evening of the most popular retro classics, anthems, and party music, as John plays tracks from the best bands of the 1960s to late 1980s. 

As Retro Grooves, the vinyl only mobile discothèque, spin the turntables, all music is played in classic style on original vinyl with authentic sounds from the eras. A mix of pop, soul, Motown, disco, funk, and R&B tracks ensure a good time and bring back great memories.

At the same time, enjoy a drink as you step back in time with classic retro sounds from your past.

Christmas & Volunteer Appeal from New Forest for Ukraine

We have received the following Christmas & Volunteer Appeal from New Forest for Ukraine.

Milford on Sea remains key to New Forest for Ukraine’s efforts to get much needed humanitarian aid out to Ukraine with generous donations provided and local resident volunteers. With a tough Ukrainian winter underway, the need for things like warm winter clothes, batteries and torches has never been so great.

Any items would be gratefully received but if you can spare a few hours a week to help NFFU and the thousands of Ukrainians who are helped by the aid it sends, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. This could be helping sort and pack the aid as it’s regularly shipped out or volunteering to collect and deliver for local donors.

Opening times if you want to go straight to its Sorting Hub at Ampress Lane, Lymington are at the bottom of this blog or else sign up via its website at www.newforestforukraine.org.

The New Forest for Ukraine organiser, and Milford on Sea resident, John Allison recently said “We’ve seen a huge uplift in donations but sadly the need has never been greater. So every donation and every volunteer really matters and is hugely appreciated out there”.

Meanwhile following the Christmas Appeal launched in September, winter focused goods remain vital as the Ukrainian temperatures drop and people continue to be displaced.

Any of the items below would be gratefully received:

Warm winter clothes & shoes • Sleeping bags • LED torches and candles • Batteries & powerbanks • Generators – new or good condition used • Ambient & long-life food – soups, tinned and dried foods, energy bars and sweets • Non-prescription in date painkillers, dressings & medical supplies • Hygiene supplies and toiletries.

The nearest drop-off points for donations are:

- Everton Post Office: Daily 8am to 6pm.
- The New Milton Memorial Centre: Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm.
- The Lymington Sorting Hub, 330 Ampress Lane, Lymington. 

Open for donations: Monday, Thursday and Friday: 12.30pm to 4.30pm, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm. Sunday closed.

Breakfast Club Discount at The Nako Café in New Forest Emporium

The Nako Café inside New Forest Emporium have launched a Breakfast Club with 10% Off to anyone who takes a copy of their Facebook post from Wednesday 13th November 2024. See here.

The café is owned and run by Roxanne and Wendy, and has been open since July 2023. They serve cooked breakfast, lunch, soup, salad, speciality coffee & home-made cakes by Becky Bakes (including gluten free options.)  You can see the menu by clicking here.

Roxanne and Wendy have explained the unusual name for the café: "
Wendy and Roxanne
We often get asked what Nako means, it is a Tswana word which simply means time. It is also a play on the word Nakoma meaning stand together and with this our aim is to create a place where people can enjoy their time and come together by helping one another and spending quality time together."

(Tswana is an indigenous Bantu language spoken in Southern Africa.)

The Nako Café is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Dogs are welcome, and tables can be booked in advance.

The New Forest Emporium is yet to be discovered by some people, and when they do they are likely to enjoy the vast range of curios and antiques available.

Their stock is always interesting, eclectic, and changing all of the time. It is certainly worth a visit to wander around.

About The New Forest Emporium

The New Forest Emporium was opened in July 2023 by Wendy Carr, and features an eclectic range of items from numerous traders. Such as antiques, vintage, retro, contemporary, and collectables. The emporium is crammed full with a surprising variety of art, curios, furniture, glass, china and jewellery to choose from.

There are also many items to spruce up your garden, such as bistro tables & chairs, Haddon stone ornaments, urns, planters, obelisks, sculptured metal work, and fire pits. Plus trees, shrubs, roses, ponds, pumps, fish food, and water plants. 

Dogs welcome.

Venue Hire: The inside, or outside spaces at The New Forest Emporium, can be hired by the hour, or full day. The spaces provide an ideal environment for workshops, community groups, classes, pop-ups. wakes, events and more.
