Halloween at Hurst Castle over Half-Term

Take the kids to the fearsome fortress built by King Henry VIII, and join in for all things Halloween at Hurst Castle this October half term. 

Open from 10am to 4pm Saturday 26th October to Sunday 3rd November 2024.

King Henry VIII, who is famed for having six wives – are the kids brave enough to descend deep into our basement and escape Henry VIII and his Six Ghosts Maze!

Or roam through every corner of the castle to find the clues to solve the Treasure Trail before sitting back and getting creative with the arts & crafts designed to keep little ones busy.

With so much to see, do and explore make sure you visit Hurst Castle this Halloween!

All activities are included in your castle admission.  

Ferries depart Keyhaven at 10am then approximately every 20 to 30 minutes.

Christmas Wreath Workshop at The Gun Inn

The Gun Inn in Keyhaven are holding a Christmas Wreath Workshop Class on Monday 25th November 2024 from 10.30am until 12.30pm.

During the couple of hours of festivities, you can make your own Christmas Wreath. The hosts, Kemlo and Kemlo will provide seasonal materials and teach you sustainable techniques to create your own unique display.

Kemlo and Kemlo are a floral design team based at s sustainable flower farm near Lymington.

Booking is essential for the workshop: £50pp - Please bring cash on the day.

Remembrance Day Sunday Concert with Choralia

Milford on Sea's popular chamber choir, Choralia Milford will be performing a Remembrance Day Concert on Sunday 3rd November 2024 at 5pm in All Saints' Church, Milford on Sea.

The concert will be in support of the Royal British Legion.

The programme will include reflective works, some ancient, such as pieces by Thomas Tallis, and others very modern - two have been composed especially for this concert by Matthew Coleridge (the choir performed his Requiem last year) and Richard Nye. 

The choir will also reprise extracts from Edmund Handy’s modern work ‘A Shropshire Lad’, based on a late 19th Century book of poems often used by soldiers in World War 1. The concert will also feature Leigh Jerwood’s arrangement of songs from World War II. And much more.

Tickets £15 (Children under 18 free). Available from the Bridge Box Office, online at choraliamilford.org.uk and on the door.

£5 will be donated to the Royal British Legion for every ticket sold.

About Choralia Milford

This Milford on Sea based chamber choir was founded in September 2021. The choir has grown in strength musically and in number. Comprising some 40 members, the choir’s concerts take place predominantly in Milford on Sea and nearby towns and villages. Led by Musical Director Philip Daish-Handy, repertoires include a broad range of secular and sacred music, both classical and modern, often sung a cappella, as well as world premieres of local composers’ music.

The Boogie Bumpers coming to JAM

This month’s jazz guests at JAM on Friday 25th October 2024 at 8pm are The Boogie Bumpers.

Step back in time and enter the vibrant era of swing and jive with The Boogie Bumpers. 

This exhilarating seven-piece jazz & swing band hailing from the South of England is renowned for their infectious energy and authentic recreation of the golden decades of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. With their captivating dance music, they transport audiences to the lively dance halls and bustling nightclubs of yesteryear. 

The Boogie Bumpers’ repertoire is an eclectic mix of jump blues and swing.

Messy Church for kids on Thursday

Come and enjoy the kids activities at Messy Church from 4pm to 5.45pm on Thursday 17th October 2024 in All Saints' Church Hall.

This free event is for children and their families to enjoy - booking required. 

Enjoy crafts, games, story, celebration and an evening meal of shepherds pie.

Please sign up so the team know how many to cater for and if there are any allergies etc.

The activities will be led by volunteers from the church with parents/carers and children taking part together.

Cindy and Martin Molloy fundraise for Pickups for Peace

Local residents, Cindy and Martin Molloy are driving this pick-up to Ukraine as part of 'Pickups for Peace', and they need items to fill it that will be useful for those impacted by the conflict.

Cindy commented: "It is a tradition for Martin's birthday we try to be helpful. This year the focus is on the conflict so close to home and people we know. The Pickup is ready to go. We are looking for donations to fill it with useful gear and the cost to drive to Ukraine. Thanks for your help."

Any practical items would help to fill the pickup. You may even have some items in your garage that others would find useful.

Donations to Pickups for Peace also welcome.

The Lighthouse launch Sunday Roast Dinners

The Lighthouse on Milford on Sea seafront have launched Sunday Roast Dinners.

This new additions to the menu are Roast Sirloin of Beef, or Lighthouse Nut Roast.

The Lighthouse Roast is now being served every Sunday this Winter from 12 noon.

Who can resist a roast dinner on a Sunday?!

Music Festival looking for village food businesses as Stall Holders

The Milford on Sea Music Festival is looking for local village food and drink businesses who may be interested in having a stall at next year's music festival.

The committee have a preference for local village traders to be on the village green. 

They are particularly looking for vendors with products that do not conflict with items sold in the village cafes, pubs and restaurant's. 

(Note: Foods Stall Holders need to conform with events legislation and be able to cope with expected demand.)

The Milford on Sea Music Festival Committee are looking for someone to help who has expertise or knowledge of setting up a CIC (Community Interest Companies), a not for profit company, or a charity. 

The committee are looking to explore what the most appropriate future structure of the music festival should be. This might also identify the possibility to apply for suitable community event support or grants.
