It is understood that the amended plans have already been submitted to New Forest District Council.

The NFDC Planning Department are now considering them, and it is expected that NFDC will consult on the revised application before it can go before the Planning Committee.

The Milford Residents for Sustainable Development now have their own Facebook page, To view please click here. They have also requested to be sent any pictures of the recent flooding, or traffic problems, around Barnes Lane, Manor Road and Lymington Road.

The group have been in regular contact with NFDC councillors Alvin Reid and David Hawkins, have had discussions with Hampshire C.C. Councillor, Fran Carpenter about the proposed access road and traffic. and Sir Desmond Swayne, our MP, has agreed to give them his help by making representations to NFDC.

An article in The Daily Echo, ‘Anger Over Big Coastal Housing Bid' made a front page headline on 17th October 2023.

Another update from the group is expected in a fortnights time. If you would like a copy, please send your email address to milford.residents@outlook.com.

About Michael Turner

Michael lives in Milford on Sea, and his magnificent metal art is now highly recognised, and desired, both within the UK and internationally.

www.carriebuggphotography.co.uk
During his formative years, his talent became apparent. He had an innate understanding and ability to capture the form and beauty of nature by creating bugs and insects, created simply from the most basic of materials including nuts, bolts and sheet metal found in his fathers’ garage.

Having finished school in 1992, he chose to go to Bournemouth Art College to develop his creative and artistic skills. He then went on to University, where he graduated with honours.

Michael established his first local workshop at the age of 22, deciding to work in stainless steel, and in particular, recycled materials.

In 2011, Michael created a full-sized Arabian Horse which was sold through a major gallery in London. This was to be the start of a whole new era where his work reached a global clientele who were both discerning and appreciative of great contemporary art.

Prior to Lockdown in 2020, Michael had exhibited numerous pieces in the Art Gallery in Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport. As a result, many of Michael's spectacular large bespoke pieces now sit in homes and gardens across the world.

In 2021, Michael installed a two metre high gorilla sitting on a crate cage, which had been purchased by the renowned Michelin starred chef and TV personality, Gordon Ramsey for his Bread Street Kitchen Restaurant in Central London.

While many of Michael's large commission pieces can sell for tens of thousands of pounds, he also take great pleasure in creating smaller pieces to provide everyone the opportunity to own a handmade piece of art, which in time could also prove to be a wise investment.
Since 2015, to recognise Remembrance Day, and as a mark of respect for those that have fallen in past conflicts, Michael has made bespoke metal poppies which he leaves in various local places for people to find.

Each year, Poppy Hunt clues are posted online, and the lucky finder has something to treasure.

He has also been an ardent supporter of Milford on Sea Primary School and other village good causes, donating hand-made pieces for them to raise funds.

You can see more of Michael's work by clicking here.

Air Marshal Sir John Curtiss: From Bomber Command to the Falklands War

Milford on Sea has had more than its fair share of notable residents, one of the most recent was Air Marshal Sir John Curtiss who was Air Commander of the British forces involved in the Falklands War.

In his later year's, Sir John, or to give him his full title: Air Marshal Sir John Bagot Curtiss, KCB, KBE, FRAeS, lived in Milford on Sea and sadly passed away on the 14th September 2013.

--------------------------------------------

Sir John's long and distinguished career in the RAF from WW2 to The Falklands War has been captured in six fascinating short films highlighting his career.

The films were made by Legasee Veterans Video Archive interviewing Sir John a few years ago.
--------------------------------------------
About Sir John Curtiss

Sir John's career was as a senior Royal Air Force officer. He served in Bomber Command during the Second World War and was Air Commander of the British forces involved in the Falklands War. He was also the first navigator to reach the three-star rank of air marshal.

Born on 6th December 1924 in England with a mother from New Zealand, and father from Australia. His parents moved to England in 1914 after his father fought in World War One with the Royal Flying Corps.

Sir John's early public school education was in both in the UK and New Zealand. In 1942, he attended a university short course at Worcester College, Oxford in preparation for joining the Royal Air Force, and he was a member of the Oxford University Air Squadron from 1942 to 1943.

He began pilot training in April 1943 and learnt to fly the Tiger Moth. He was passed over during pilot selection, and became a navigator. From 1944 to 1945, he flew with Bomber Command, and shortly after the Normandy landings undertook attacks on retreating German forces.

After the war Curtis served with Fighter Command before being appointed a Director at the RAF Staff College, Bracknell in 1967, this was followed by serval senior positions.

His final posting was as Air Component Commander during the Falklands War. He retired in 1983.

After retiring form the RAF, he was director and chief executive of Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) from 1984 to 1989, and secretary of the Defence Industries Council from 1985 to 1989. Through his work with the SBAC, he was involved in planning the Farnborough Air Show.

In September 1989, on the 50th Anniversary of the declaration of War, Air Marshal Sir John Curtiss unveiled the Royal Air Force, Commonwealth and Allied Air Forces Monument on Plymouth Hoe.

The monument is dedicated to those men and women who served during the Second World War, both in the air and on the ground, and it is the only international air monument in the world.

Among the several hundred RAF veterans who paraded that day were representatives from seventeen countries, including the USA, the USSR, Poland, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Storm Ciaran destroys Beach Huts in Milford on Sea

Storm Ciaran wreaked havoc across Milford on Sea on Thursday 2nd November 2023.

The Beach Huts beneath Hordle Cliff were particularly badly hit as the dramatic photos taken by Trevor Machin show. The wooden access stairs to the beach huts were also badly hit and damaged.

Various areas across the village were hit by flooding at the same time, with some roads impassable, especially in Keyhaven.

Free CPR & Defibrillator Training with Local Community First Responders

Milford on Sea's Local Community First Responders (CFR), Andy Bouch and John Blessing are offering free valuable training sessions to groups in the village. At each session they demonstrate how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use a village defibrillator.

John Blessing and Andy Bouch
Milford on Sea Community First Responders
John & Andy recently gave a valuable training session on dealing with someone in cardiac arrest to a well attended group from All Saints, and St. Mary’s churches.

The session started with Andy explaining that every minute’s delay in starting CPR reduces survival by 10% so knowing what to do can save a life.

John went on to provide a demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use one of our local  defibrillators.

The session ended with a chance for everyone to practice.

Free CPR & Defibrillator Training Sessions

If you have a group that may be interested please contact John on 07984 144109 or john.blessing@sca-charity.org.ukThere is no charge for the session, but donations to the Community First Responders is appreciated.

John and Andy are unpaid volunteer Community First Responders who live in the village.

As Community First Responders they are deployed to life-threatening emergencies in the local area. Being local, they can give life-saving first aid before an ambulance arrives.

They are entirely funded by charitable donations.

We are lucky to have them, and any support to the South Central Ambulance Charity (who fund the CFR) would be greatly appreciated. Please click here.

About Milford on Sea Community First Responders

The Milford on Sea Community First Responders were founded in 2017 by Ross Woolgar, Terri Newton and Conrad Curtis, and are part of the South Central Ambulance Charity.

The village CPR's are entirely funded by charitable donations and support the South Central Ambulance Service who train and deploy them to appropriate emergency calls in the village.

The advantage of Community First Responders is that in many cases they can get there before the paramedics and commence life saving emergency treatment at the earliest opportunity, which significantly improves patients chances of survival.

Community First Responders (CFRs) are volunteers that  commit to give a minimum of 20 on-call hours a month, and are trained and despatched by UK ambulance services.

All CFR's are unpaid and simply want to make a life-saving difference to their community.

South Central Ambulance Charity supports over 1,200 Community First Responders, medical students, military, police and fire Co-Responders.

Become a Community First Responder

New Community First Responders are currently being recruited. To join the team you need to be 18+ (no upper age limit), have a full driving licence and access to a car.

All training, equipment and uniform is provided. Training is done at the weekend or evening so shouldn’t interfere with any work. All that is asked is a commitment to be on call for a minimum of 20 hours per month.

You can find out more at: www.scascharity.org.uk/community-first-responders - or contact John on 07984 144109 or john.blessing@sca-charity.org.uk.
