Franny Benali trains team at Milford on Sea Youth FC

The senior lads at Milford on Sea Youth FC were very fortunate to have the saints legend, Francis 'Franny' Benali take them for a pre-season training session last week.

Ask anyone involved with Southampton Football Club about Francis Benali and they’ll describe a loyal club legend. The former professional footballer and coach spent the majority of his 20 year playing career with the club, having made his debut in 1988.

After 389 games with Southampton Francis, or Franny as he’s more affectionately known, is still a fans’ favourite today, thanks to his commitment to the club, hardworking attitude and ferocious, full-blooded tackles. Many fans will remember Franny playing through injuries to help the team, including famously playing on with a broken arm!

Since retiring from playing football, he has completed 3 ultra endurance challenges, all in aid Cancer Research UK. In 2016 he was awarded the Freedom of The City of Southampton, and then named in the 2020 New Years Honours list, where he was awarded an MBE.

Today he is a Keynote Speaker and TV Pundit (To which he can now add: 'Milford on Sea Youth FC Pre-season session trainer!').
