The Shop History & Previous Owners
In the early 1900's the shop at 49 High Street Milford on Sea, was a butchers owned by Harry James Butt. Sadly, on Friday 13th January 1911 when he was 52 years old, Harry tragically ended his own life by hanging whilst of unsound mind. - To read more about Harry Butt's life, please click here.
Later, for many years from the 1950/60's, the shop was Plumbly's Stores, which was a grocers and included a sweet shop.
Then, in 1999 the Spar store was purchased by Paul & Maureen Holland as an independent franchise supermarket. Over time they changed the name to become Holland's of Milford. As well as a supermarket, the shop became a delicatessen which included an impressive cheese counter, offered hot snacks & drinks, and Paul ran daily home deliveries, particularly supporting the elderly in the village.
Paul & Maureen ran the shop for 21 years until retiring in 2020. During this time the store had moved from the Spar franchise, to become part of the Nisa family of independent grocers.
Kularaj Pathmanathan purchased the Holland's of Milford store when Paul & Maureen Holland retired in 2020, Kularaj remained owning and operating the shop until 2024.
In March 2024, the independently owned store was purchased by Punit Patel (who was also happy to be known as Nick) to become a One Stop franchise, which is part of the Tesco group. In June 2024, Punit invested in a major makeover for the store and it was renamed as 'One Stop Working with Milford'.
