La Perle becomes victim of the economy

We are very sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but La Perle has closed its doors.

Sam commented: "I'm sad to tell you that La Perle has now ceased trading, having found the current economic situation impossible to negotiate.

Please pass on our thanks to all the local residents who have supported us over the last seven years. We have thoroughly enjoyed being part of Milford village life!

Hopefully, someone else will take over the restaurant soon and offer a new experience for everyone to enjoy.

In the time that Sam ran La Perle he has demonstrated his exceptional skills in the kitchen and delighted many diners with his creative menus. He is a generous guy, and he took great pride in what he created during his seven years heading up la Perle.

His caring character was very clear, and over the Covid Lockdowns he modified his trading to provide takeaway meals, and even delivered to peoples homes. Having tasted the fare, it was never a disappointment.

It is sad that the economic climate has taken this toll on a popular local restaurant, and Sam and his food is going to be a loss for the village and his many customers. With the UK and much of the world in the centre of complete economic turmoil our local village businesses need all of the support they can get right now.

We wish Sam and his team all the best for the future, and hopefully his talent as a chef is not lost to Milford on Sea for too long.

Part of Milford on Sea Beachfront for Sale

A prime 120m x 22m of the Milford on Sea beachfront roughly seawards from The Beach House Hotel is up for sale for £1.25m in cryptocurrency.

The land has an approximate 380m perimeter and area of 2680sqm, with a topography consisting of a sloping sand, gravel and cliff face overlooking the sea.

Property consultants West London City Lets has launched a sub-agency Tokenized Properties to facilitate the sale of a the plot of land using a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) for the transaction.

It is understood that this would be the first land sale with this type of transaction in UK history.

If you are unclear exactly how cryptocurrency, blockchains and NFT's work there is no point asking me. I have tried, but I simply do not understand how they work! They are however a growing method of trading for those that embrace the crypto concept.

You can find out more about the Milford on Sea land sale by clicking here to visit the sellers website.

PS: If you do buy the land, please explain NFT property sales to me!

No64 Xmas Launch Night – Next Thursday

An invitation from Clare at No64 Biscuit House in Milford on Sea high street:

Finally, after an absence of 3 years, we’re able to host our Christmas Launch Night again!

The date we've settled on is... Thursday, 20th October, between 6pm & 8.30pm (so next Thursday!) and here's what the evening will entail:

• Exclusive 'first visitor' access to my Christmas room / range
• A glass (or 2!) of bubbly, or something alcohol free for the drivers
• A mince pie / nibbles

Before anyone gets too excited, we're just little old No64 and so don't expect a fly-by by the Red Arrows or anything! It's just a bit of fun, a chance to catch up with friends over a glass of something, and a chance to see my Christmas stock before it's launched officially the following morning.

Now, sadly, we do need to limit numbers as we only have a small shop and, previously, you've told us it was a little too busy. We would therefore need to send out invites on a strictly 'first come, first served basis', and so do please register your interest as soon as you can.

Also, can I just add, you won't miss anything if you're not here at exactly 6pm, far from it! I say this as if we can spread the evening out it makes it a little easier to manage, and so if you come for 7pm, or later, you'll miss nothing - you don't need to be here first, there's no benefit, as it's not a sale or a limited event of any kind.

If you would like an invite do please let me know in-store (or give us a call - 01590 643765), or email me (clare@no64.co.uk) and let me know that you would like to come, and if you need a +1.

We hope you can make it!

Clare xx

Volunteers too were checked and commented one who will also now be referred; ‘I need to say thank you! I was all for helping on Saturday not realising it was me who needed it. You are all saving lives. I am so pleased I am a member of the League of Friends Health Hub.’

Donations still urgently needed for Ukraine

New Forest for Ukraine CIC have just celebrated delivering 50 vans of aid directly to refugees in Poland and Ukraine. The operation is run entirely by a network of volunteers who collect, sort and pack donations, load vans, as well as driving the aid to Poland. The team also makes improvised medical trauma kits with over 2,000 of these life-saving items being delivered into Ukraine.

DONATIONS STILL NEEDED

The team includes Ukrainians and Polish nationals who have settled in the UK. Using their network in their home country they have set up a direct supply route to ensure all the aid gets directly to people who need it. So far over £1 million pounds worth of donations have been delivered. John Stanton (Lead Coordinator) said ‘The shipment of our 50th truck of general aid along with 2,000 improvised trauma kits is a huge milestone for our team. It couldn’t have been achieved without the on-going support of the wonderful people in the New Forest and further afield. Each truck is not only very much needed humanitarian aid it is also a sign of affinity with the Ukrainian people and what they are going through’.

Unfortunately, the flow of donations is slowing up whilst the need for support is increasing. With the onset of winter as well as the on-going atrocities of the war, there continues to be millions of displaced Ukrainians who need our support. There continues to be people arriving in Poznan needing basic supplies whilst the people around Kharkiv have lost everything and are in urgent need of direct support. Temperatures will drop to minus 40 in Poland and Ukraine meaning the need for support is greater now than ever before.

The priority items include food, toiletries, infant supplies, pet supplies, bedding and clean, warm, winter clothing. These donations can be dropped-off at the Saltwater Café or the Community Centre in Milford on Sea as well as across the New Forest where they will be collected and taken to the main hub in Lymington before shipment directly to Poznan in Poland and Kharkiv, Berdyansk or Lyubar in Ukraine.

New Forest for Ukraine is looking for more support from volunteers to help in areas ranging from new collection points, transportation of aid, sorting aid and making improvised trauma packs. Any support is most welcome and every bit helps in supporting the Ukrainian people.
