Simon moves from Para Table Tennis to Pickleball

Simon Heaps has officially announced his retirement from International Para Table Tennis, but that is not the end of his journey.

From 2022 to 2024, Simon represented Great Britain, on a self-funded basis, and won 17 table tennis medals in Para-competitions worldwide, including in Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.

Over this period, Simon raised and spent more than £100k, and he would like to personally thank each and every person who has donated to his cause and supported him both financially and emotionally, acknowledging that he could not have done this on his own.

Simon has now decided to end this chapter of his life. With many great memories comes just one regret.

British Para Table Tennis had agreed that he could undertake this journey on a self-funded basis. However, Simon has said he has never received any recognition from them and little support.

His experience is more detailed on his Facebook page. Please click here.

Simon's journey doesn't end here. When one door closes, another invariably opens, and he now plans to compete in Wheelchair Pickleball.

He has set himself the target of winning a medal in his first year at the three big UK tournaments: the English Open, Welsh Open, and English Nationals.

To do this, he needs to raise £1,500 to buy a specialist 2nd-hand wheelchair; otherwise, he can’t compete. Simon currently has one on trial, and donations can be made to help him make a purchase.
