A local campaign group called 'Save Lymington and Keyhaven' (SLAK) are currently fighting the proposals for the planned long-term abandonment of Hurst Spit and the potential effect on the Danes Stream, Keyhaven and Lymington River.

As someone who has walked many times along spit over 40 years, not a local. The spit is now a man made barrier. The natural spit sediment that protected Hurst Castle has gone or relocated itself by the Light house. The barrier beyond the bridge is alarmingly narrow. I fear the sea will decide the future of the marshes and Saltcoats.
ReplyDeleteAny money will have to be spent on a sea wall from The Bridge to Lymingtom. The rest is up to climate change and mother nature
