20 mph Speed Limit Proposal along Barnes Lane and Manor Road

Local residents have requested a new 20mph zone to be introduced along Barnes Lane and Manor Road, and this request is being supported by the Milford Parish Council.

At a recent parish council meeting, concern was raised on the increased through traffic which is anticipated to result from a proposed development of 170 new homes at Swallowfield Park, on land north of Manor Road.

The roads in question do not have a pavement, but are used by a variety of pedestrians, dog walkers, and cyclists.

Hampshire County Council now allows Parish and Town Councils to apply for 20mph speed limits and zones in residential areas.

Due to the traffic orders required, the cost of the change is estimated to be between £10,000 and £15,000.

We await to hear what the next stage may be.

  1. Perhaps a vehicle weight limit should also be included, say 5 tonnes

  2. To anonymous above. There are advisory width restrictions for large vehicles into Barnes Lane, but with exemptions for access to deliver, for example. It is unlikely they would put a vehicle weight limit on this road. There are so many other similarly narrow roads, and lorries have to get to where they are going somehow, I'm afraid. 3. The real problem in the north end of Barnes Lane is the change of use from farms to small industrial estates which attract regular HGV's visits to the units. Tinleys have daily deliveries and collections by HGV trucks down this rural country lane.

  4. £10 - 15k to change a speed limit? No wonder the country is broke...

  5. I would love to see the whole of MOS as a 20, tbh. Driving any quicker than that through the village is dangerous; the roads are so tight, frequently blocked by parked cars and deliveries, and there a lots of pedestrians about.
