Milford on Sea Rowing Regatta Postponed and Rescheduled

After a very windy week, the organisers have been monitoring the forecast closely. Unfortunately, it has been decided this morning to reschedule the Milford on Sea Rowing Regatta from 31st May to Saturday 12th July 2025.

The wind is set to increase steadily throughout the day with strong gusts building, making launching from the steps at Milford particularly challenging and so, with a full progamme, safety must come first and the call has been made to reschedule rather than have to abandon the event after just a couple of hours.

Petition to Save Our Ice Cream Lady!

We have received the petition below in an attempt to save a long-standing and well-loved local business.

Mark Law writes:

In our well-meaning support for the Keyhaven/Milford on Sea Parking Scheme, we have unintentionally harmed Debbie’s (our beloved Ice Cream Lady’s) ability to trade.

We’ve started a petition asking Hampshire County Council to grant her an exemption.

Please click the link below to sign and share it to help protect a much loved member of our community.

Thank you so much.

The Issue & Why This Matters:

We, the undersigned, call on Councillor Fran Carpenter and Hampshire County Council to grant a written exemption to Debbie, our iconic and much loved Ice Cream Lady, from the proposed Saltgrass Lane / New Lane Parking Scheme in Keyhaven / Milford on Sea.

This scheme threatens the very survival of Debbie’s micro business, a treasured member of our community, which brings joy, comfort, and character to locals and visitors alike.

Who Is Debbie?

Debbie is not just a vendor, she’s a local legend and a heartwarming fixture of the Keyhaven/Milford on Sea experience. For the past 11 years, she has provided:

o Award-winning New Forest Ice Cream
o Crabbing tackle for children at the Crabbing Bridge
o Dog treats for our four-legged friends
o Lost property help
o Tourist information
o First aid support
o A friendly face and listening ear for all ages

Her van is a cherished part of the local landscape, especially for families with young children, and her presence brings life, charm and community spirit to our area.

-----------------------------------
The Ice Cream Lady Song

Back in the summer of  2024, Local band, Captain Crackers and The Curiosities released a new track called 'The Ice Cream Lady Song'. The song is inspired by Debbie, owner of Milford on Ice, the ice cream van at the Crabbing Bridge in Milford on Sea.

This first single by the much loved, (and certainly eccentric!), local band was recorded live at The Gun Inn, Keyhaven.

Mark from the band explains: "The song celebrates Debbie, our lovely ice cream lady, who has cheerfully provided ice creams to generations of walkers and crabbers down at the Crabbing Bridge on Saltgrass Lane between Keyhaven and Milford on Sea. We’re regulars and encourage everyone to go along, say hello, and buy an ice cream or two!"

"The song has a terrific tune and features a number of surprises including, a Magic Ice Cream Van, the world’s shortest (and most hilarious) piano solo and of course Debbie, our wonderful Ice Cream Lady!"

Fuel Barber and Barista: Milford's Unique New Blend of Style and Speciality Coffee

Some of you may have noticed a subtle but exciting transformation on Milford on Sea High Street. Fuel Hair Mechanics, long known as a hub for style and grooming in the village, has expanded its vision from within.

The new-look Fuel Barber and Barista is the innovative brainchild of husband-and-wife team Simon and Mesi, bringing a fresh take on the high street experience by combining cutting-edge barbering with carefully crafted coffee.

Locals will likely recognise Mesi from her friendly presence at The Village News, where she worked alongside Mark and Co. for the last couple of years. However, her journey into the world of speciality coffee began long before her time in Milford on Sea.

For her side of the business, Mesi brings years of experience from a respected independent Italian coffee shop in Winchester, where she and Simon first crossed paths over a decade ago. Her passion for high-quality brews has now found its home in the heart of our community.

Fuel has always stood out for its bold interior and unmistakable vibe (having a motorcycle for sale under the counter and a range of guitars and vintage American number plates adorning the walls) since opening its doors in 2018.

With the addition of the coffee bar, the space now offers more than just a haircut – it's a destination. But why a coffee bar? For Mesi, it’s simple: great coffee deserves a great setting.

To deliver on that promise, Mesi has partnered with some impressive names. Their beans come courtesy of Moon Roast, a well-regarded Hampshire roaster known to guests of Lime Wood Hotel.

Tea lovers can enjoy a brew from New Forest Tea Co., served under the charmingly local label Milford on Tea (M.O.T). And for something sweet? Look no further than Nauti Treats, the creative work of Milford on Sea cake baker, Bonnie Marsden.  (Read more about Nauti Treats by clicking here and going to the bottom of the article.)

Unlike sprawling coffeehouse chains, Fuel Barber and Barista focuses on a tightly curated menu. Whether it’s a velvety flat white, a bottle of Counter Culture Kombucha, or a hand-blended herbal tea, each product has been chosen for its quality and character. It’s a pitstop designed for everyone – from coffee connoisseurs and dog walkers to motor enthusiasts who'd rather skip the queue for a quick quiche and grab something special on the go.

Fuel’s latest evolution cements its role as more than just a barber shop. It’s now a place to connect, relax, and enjoy something made with care, whether a fresh haircut or a cup of expertly brewed coffee.

So next time you're strolling down Milford High Street, pop in and experience it for yourself. You might just find your new favourite blend.

About Fuel Hair Mechanics

Fuel Hair Mechanics has been in Milford on Sea since October 2018 and moved to a newly renovated shop in the centre of the high street in September 2024.

Previously located at 61 High Street, owner Simon Digweed and his team of Zoe and Nick can now be found at the foot of the village green at 48 High Street, Milford on Sea, SO41 0QD.

Fuel Hair Mechanics is a full-service barbershop that has embraced the changing face of male grooming. They offer a range of services, from precision cutting and styling to beard shaping and traditional hot towel shaves.

Zoe is a senior hair technician, and Nick is a classic barber who offers a discount for emergency services and military personnel.

Owner and master barber, Simon moved to Lymington in 2014, where he set up and added his own unique touches to a successful barbershop franchise. After progressing the business to new heights, it was time to bring his exclusive brand, Fuel Hair Mechanics, to life in 2018.

Fuel Hair Mechanics
New Barbershop
August 2024
Simon has created creative and eclectic interior designs in both his old and new barbershops. The current barbershop features a Honda motorbike, a signed Mark Knopfler guitar, a signed CD by Joe Strummer, Americana memorabilia, American car number plates, and many other curiosities adorning the walls.

Fuel Hair Mechanics

2018 to 2024
Fuel is the perfect place for gentlemen to relax, enjoy complimentary beverages, including freshly ground coffee, soft drinks, or even a beer, listen to eclectic music, and be expertly looked after by master barbers who are setting the standard for male grooming in the New Forest.

Since establishing itself in Milford on Sea, the barbershop has been very well received. It has an ever-growing fanbase both in the village and from further afield, bringing new trade into an already bustling village.

Booking is recommended but not always essential.

Bookings can be made online now at www.fuelhairmechanics.co.uk.

In May 2025, Simon added a coffee and tea bar for passing trade and customers to enjoy.

The new venture is decorated in his unique style and was rebranded to Fuel Barber and Barista.
