Volunteer Opportunities at Hurst Castle

Are you interested in local history? Are you thinking of volunteering in 2024? Then check out Hurst Castle's three very dedicated volunteer groups.

The Friends of Hurst Castle is a local active support group, who provide regular help from enhancement of the building, to meeting and greeting visitors, to financially helping with any current project.

Milford on Sea Historical Record Society is one of the oldest local history societies in the country. Their members are conducting research into elements of the castle's long history, including life on the spit, to enhance knowledge, their archives and future castle interpretation.

Finally, we have a small group from the Association of Lighthouse Keepers, who work on a voluntary basis almost every Monday, come rain or shine. They spend a lot of time thinking up ideas for new lighthouse-related exhibits for visitors and are responsible for the refurbishing, setting up and maintaining of the two ALK Museum Rooms.

If you would like to become a member of any of these groups, please contact the Friends of Hurst Castle in the first instance; for more information, please click here.

About the Friends of Hurst Castle

The Friends is a local support group to Hurst Castle, providing help in any way they can – which over the years has included enhancement of the building, mounting information panels and displays, guiding visitors and research.

The Friends of Hurst Castle are always happy to welcome new members, friends and volunteers. You can just enjoy news from Hurst Castle, and social days out, or get as involved as you wish.

The Friends of Hurst Castle also publish a regular newsletter; Hurst Tidings, which celebrated its 100th edition in 2022. As well as news about the castle, it features articles that range from history to the environment, as well as coverage of activities and events organised by the Friends.

Annual Subscriptions:
Single: £12 per year
Joint: £19 per year: Two adults at one address.
