26 September 2023

Milford Artists in prestigious Palais des Vaches Autumn Exhibition

Milford on Sea's internationally renowned stainless steel sculptor Michael Turner, and acclaimed local artist Julie Collins, are featuring alongside other talented artists from across the New Forest at the Spring Exhibition at Palais des Vaches in Exbury.

The exhibition runs over this weekend; Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October 2023 from 11am to 4pm - and then on selected weekends through to the end of this year.

Another artist exhibiting is John Illsley, the bass guitarist from Dire Straights, and the headline act at the Milford on Sea Music Festival earlier this year.

Michael Turner

During his formative years, his talent became apparent. About Palais des Vaches

The Palais des Vaches is a beautifully renovated art gallery and event venue at the end of a long gravel track. Nestled between the Beaulieu River and The Solent, the drive reveals delightful views.

Just a short distance from the world-famous Exbury Gardens, this carefully designed event venue has three flexible, interconnecting interior spaces which surround a large open courtyard featuring spectacular sculptures. In Summer there is a wild flower meadow overlooking the river.

The gallery space has been lovingly transformed by Exbury Garden’s president Nick de Rothschild, and his wife, Caroline, and hosts exceptional local and award winning national artists with exhibitions on show throughout the year.

Starting with the magnificent milking parlour, affectionately named the ‘Cow Palace’, and built by Nick’s Grandfather, Lionel de Rothschild, a century ago, Nick and Caroline worked with a team of local builders, artisans, and crafts people to restore the buildings to “more than their former glory.”

The walls of the Palais now feature a collection of works by celebrated and lesser-known local artists, sculptors and ceramicists, along with a host of fantastic sculptures both inside and out.
