About Hurst Castle
Hurst Castle was built between 1541 and 1544 by Henry VIII as one of a chain of artillery defences protecting key ports and landing places around southern England from continental attack. This Tudor castle was also a prison for King Charles I in 1648. At the heart of Hurst Castle is the Tudor fort and you can discover the interesting history of the castle over the years when you visit.
Hurst Castle Open: 27th March to 31st October - 10am to 5.30pm Daily.
