Graham Wiffen captured this excellent image of the paddle steamer Waverley sailing past The Needles over the weekend. She was returning to Southampton after after a day trip to Swanage.
The ship is registered on The National Historic Fleet as being a vessel of pre-eminent national significance. She has operated in preservation since 1975 and has become a “national treasure” carrying over 6 million passengers.
Trips are available to experience the sight, sound and thrill of watching the mighty steam engine start to drive the ship’s massive paddle wheels, and then sitting back to enjoy a short cruise on this magnificent and historic steamship.
