Record-Breaking Season for Milford on Sea Tennis and Squash Club

Milford on Sea Tennis and Squash Club has just completed an extraordinary winter season in the Dorset Tennis Leagues, securing a record-breaking performance. The club, located on Lucerne Road in Milford, fielded 12 teams across various divisions in the winter 2024/2025 season, and their efforts have truly paid off.

The standout achievement of the season was the success of both the Men’s and Ladies’ 1st teams, who triumphed in Dorset Division 1, defeating some of the county’s most established and competitive clubs. The Ladies’ teams showed their remarkable strength in depth, with the 2nd team clinching the top spot in Division 2 and the 3rd team claiming victory in Division 3.

In addition to these incredible victories, several other teams delivered exceptional performances. The Mixed 1st team earned a hard-fought second place in Division 1, while the Mixed 2 team earned promotion to Division 1. The Ladies’ 4th team also came incredibly close, finishing as runners-up, narrowly losing out to Christchurch Tennis Club.

Head coach Dan Hitchins expressed his pride in the team’s achievements: “It’s been an amazing season, and to have so many successes is fantastic for the club, especially given that we’re not the largest club and have a relatively small catchment area for players. This success is a direct reflection of the dedication and hard work put in by our players every week.”

Milford on Sea Tennis and Squash Club continues to build on its reputation as a welcoming and friendly club. Offering tennis, squash & racketball memberships, along with a coaching programme for all ages, the club invites anyone interested in joining to come and experience the camaraderie and excellence that has driven their recent record-breaking success.

With such a remarkable season behind them, Milford on Sea Tennis and Squash Club looks set to continue their winning ways in future seasons.

No64 Pizza Prepare for Summer Season on their Birthday

Three years ago, No64 Pizza was founded by Glenn & Clare, and since then, their charming  converted horse trailer has attended many local events and parties serving delicious handmade pizza.

Glen has sent us a review of their journey so far, and plans for the coming season:

"It’s hard to believe it, but No64 Pizza is about to celebrate its third birthday, and what a wild, dough-filled ride it’s been! What started as a lovingly restored horse trailer, and a dream of sharing great pizza, has grown into a much-loved part of the local food scene (and a regular feature in party photos all over the New Forest).

In just three years, we’ve had the honour of serving our pizzas at some amazing events: Dogstival, Milford Music Festival, Sway Carnival & Fête, New Forest Fruit Company, New Milton Rugby Club (junior tournaments), Keyhaven Yacht Club, Flack Manor Brewery, The Pig Brewery, and we’re now proud to be a preferred supplier at exclusive venues like Pylewell Park and Palais des Vaches.

This year, you can catch us regularly at our residency at the brilliant Brew Forest in Lymington, and we’re delighted to be back again for Sway Carnival, Sway Fête, New Forest Fruit Company and New Milton Rugby Club.

There is nothing we love more than being invited back, it’s the biggest compliment we could get (except maybe hearing “that was the best pizza I’ve ever had!”, which we also hear quite a lot, just saying...).

Our real passion is private catering, weddings, parties, anniversaries, and celebrations of all kinds.

That’s where No64 Pizza comes to life. Every pizza is made by hand, in front of your guests, using the best fresh Italian ingredients. Our dough? Handmade. Our tomato sauce? A top-secret house recipe. Our ovens? Gozney stone-fired beauties, built into an original, professionally converted Sinclair horse trailer. She’s not just functional, she’s fabulous.

And while we love feeding a crowd, we’ve never been about slick marketing. We don’t do advertising, and we’re famously terrible at social media — we built this little business on reputation alone.

If you’ve eaten one of our pizzas, or booked us for your event, thank you, you’re the reason we’re still here, and we’d love it if you could leave us a quick Google review by clicking herevia the QR code (if you’re clever!), or tag us on Insta: @no64pizza

Thinking of having us at your next event? We’d love to chat! Pop into our shop No64 Biscuit House in Milford on Sea high street and speak to Clare, or give us a call on 07950 933466. You can also browse a few drool-worthy photos on our website: www.no64pizza.co.uk

We still have a few dates left for this year, but they’re going quicker than our Margheritas at a wedding!

Thanks for supporting our little slice of pizza paradise — here’s to year four, and to many more pizzas, parties, and good times."

No Funding Available to Repair Hurst Spit

Multiple storms during February significantly damaged Hurst Spit, narrowing the width of some areas on top of the shingle bank.

It has now been reported that New Forest District Council do not have the money to carry out repairs and they are approaching landowners and organisations with an interest in Hurst Spit for financial support.

As the Hurst Spit to Lymington Strategy currently stands, the draft plan is to maintain the existing shape of Hurst Spit for the next 10 to 20 years. After which, active management would be reduced, 'eventually allowing the shingle formation to return to a more natural form'.

The statement above indicates that Hurst Spit would continue to be maintained for now, but it is unclear who would provide the funding, hence NFDC's current position.

Hurst Spit Survey

Sir Desmond Swayne, MP for New Forest West, is running a short, confidential survey to gather constituents’ opinions on the Environment Agency’s management of Hurst Spit to help shape local policy responses.

To complete the survey, please click here.

----------------------
Who Owns Hurst Spit

Hurst Spit does not have a single, straightforward owner due to its complex status as a natural feature, a historical site, and a protected area.

The ownership and management of the spit involve multiple entities, reflecting its mixed public and private interests.

Hampshire County Council owns portions of the land, particularly areas tied to coastal management and public access. There are also privately owned sections of Hurst Spit. These sections come with significant restrictions in a highly protected area with strict planning regulations that limit development.
Public rights of way also complicate ownership.

The spit’s designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) further imposes environmental protections, limiting what any owner, public or private, can do with the land.

The majority of Hurst Spit is managed as part of the public domain, with significant oversight from governmental and conservation bodies.

Historically, shingle replenishment and erosion control have been largely handled by the New Forest District Council and the Environment Agency.

Questions answered on Lasting Power of Attorney

Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA's) have become a very popular topic these days for people to consider for themselves.

Tony from LPAs For Locals has put together his list of the top 10 questions received from those who have attended his free weekly drop-in Every Monday between 10.15am to 12noon at The Bridge.

1. How many Lasting Powers of Attorney can I have?

Answer: A minimum of 1 and theoretically as many as you like. More than one is advised if possible and 2 or 3 is the most common.

2. Can I add another Lasting Powers of Attorney to an existing LPA?

Answer: No. However, if the Donor (the person giving the authority) still has capacity, they can cancel the existing LPA and create a new Lasting Powers of Attorney(s).

3. Can I cancel my existing Lasting Power of Attorney?

Answer: Yes, so long as you still have mental capacity to do so. There is a formal revocation procedure to follow.

4. Why should I make a Lasting Power of Attorney?

Answer: Making a Lasting Power of Attorney keeps you in control of who you choose to be responsible for looking after your affairs and decisions if you are no longer capable of doing so yourself.

5. What if the Donor or Attorneys named on an existing LPA change their address?

Answer: You should notify the Office of the Public Guardian who will amend their records. You should never amend / change your LPA legal document yourself in any way as it will invalidate it.

6. Who should make a Lasting Power of Attorney?

Answer: Anyone during adult life can become incapable of being able to manage their own affairs as a result of illness or accident, regardless of how old they are.

7. What happens if I don't make a Lasting Power of Attorney prior to losing mental capacity?

Answer: Someone, e.g. a family member or friend will likely have to apply to the Court of Protection who will appoint a Deputy to make decisions for you. This is a complex, time consuming and very expensive process and at that stage you have lost control of choosing who in fact is appointed. You would have no input to the decision which could be very stressful for your loved ones as the person appointed may not be who you would have chosen yourself when you had the opportunity to do so.

8. What happens to my LPA when I die?

Answer: Your LPA and ceases immediately upon death whereupon your Will would then take over.

9. Can any of my LPA's create or amend my Will?

Answer: No, absolutely not!

10. Do my LPA's have to send or give the original LPA document to a financial institution or health professional to prove they have authority to act on my behalf?

Answer: You can use the original paper LPA document if you wish and many still do, but a more recent development and alternative option is your attorney can give them a secure unique access code to view a summary of the document online. This can be quicker and more convenient in many situations.

Fury as The Lazy Lion to become a Night Club

Locals are outraged at the news that The Lazy Lion is to become a Night Club.

Since unexpectedly closing its doors on the 23rd September 2024, The Lazy Lion pub has sat empty with forlorn beer pumps and the once popular restaurant sadly inoperative.

Speculation has been rife as to what was to become of this popular village pub situated in an historic Grade II Listed former eighteenth century coaching inn.

Many expected the pub to reopen as a bar and restaurant, but it appears that will not happen now.

Submitted artist's impression
The New Flim-Flam Night Club is part of The Imagine Entertainment Group and they have numerous venues across the UK.

Bobby Dazzle, general manager of the new night club said: "Our aim is to make the night club accessible to all and to become part of the local community. We are looking to cover a variety of genres of music during the week, and at weekends the club will focus on a mix of rave and grime music until we close at 2am. I have a lot of respect for local residents, so we will stop playing music from 1am during the week."

To fully utilise the building, during the day there will be dance classes for those who want to learn classic rave moves. The classes will be open to all ages and will be taken by Tommy Twinkle. Tommy also choreographed all the rave dance sequences on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

It is also understood that there is existing planning permission for an elevated decking area connected to the rear of the property extending to approximately 646 sq. ft. Flim-Flam has plans to make this into a jacuzzi complex for ravers when the night club is open. During the day, the facility will be available to local naturist groups.

Layout Plan for the Future Interior
Recently, a village protest group has been formed to lobby the New Forest District Council to reject the premises license application from Flim-Flam.

The group, Neighbours Against Flim-Flam (NAFF) is led by Ivor Issue who lives close to the back of the new venue.

Ivor commented, "This is not a welcome addition to the village and the pub will be sorely missed. The dance classes with Tommy Tinkle are all well and good and claim to be inclusive, but there is no mention of including those who love to rave but are now using walking frames."

Fellow local resident, Bill Peeper said, "It is going to be bad enough having banging music until into the early hours of the morning, but my real issue is that I will have to hang out of my window to see the naturists in the jacuzzi area during the day."

If you would like to join NAFF and have your views heard, please contact Ivor at ivor@ubeenhad.org.
