Help out at the Weedathon in the Community Meadow on Saturday

Sue Crabb and the Community Meadow Gardeners urgently need a bit of extra help for a weed blitz at the Community Meadow this weekend.

If you can spare an hour on Saturday morning, 1st February between 10am and 12noon, please come and meet the friendly and welcoming team at the Meadow.

You can find the Community Meadow, just beside All Saints' Church and there is a map below.

You’ll need something to kneel on, a hand fork and a small bucket for weeds.

Don’t worry if you aren’t sure about identifying weeds. Plenty of advice will be available!

Milford on Sea Community Meadow was recently saved thanks to the generosity of villagers and the Parish Council. To read more please click here.

---------------------------------------------------

About Milford Meadow

The Community Meadow, just beside All Saints' Church, was opened by Milford on Sea Parish Council when hosting a village picnic on Saturday 22nd June 2019.

The meadow was bequeathed by the late Diane Gillespie, a generous Milford on Sea resident.

The legacy was in two parcels of land, one made to the Friends of Christchurch Priory, the other to Milford on Sea Parish Council on condition that it should remain an open space to the benefit of the community.

In December 2022 The Friends of Milford Meadow were pleased to report that following significant local objection, a planning application by Bayview Developments to build a four-bedroom house on  the Friends of Christchurch Priory land close to the Community Meadow was refused.

It is understood that over the last two years the Parish Council has had several meetings and communications with the Priory about the future of the Meadow - not least about the unmaintained state of the land.

At a recent meeting, the Friends of the Priory were encouraged to let the Parish Council know what they envisaged for the land and it was emphasised that the Parish would like first refusal on buying the meadow, but would need time to raise the money with community involvement.

Subsequently, we have been informed that the land will be offered by tender via Goadsby Estate Agents in Bournemouth with a guide price of £100,000. The tender period is likely to commence in November 2024.

Another Successful Village Pantomime

This year's Dick Whittington and His Cat Village Pantomime was another roaring success from Wednesday 15th to Sunday Sunday 19th January 2025, playing to packed audiences and providing constant laughter along the way.

Pantomime Director, Brenda Evans said; "My thanks to everyone involved with “Dick Whittington” and to our audiences who supported us again this year.

Audiences were entranced by the Underwater Scene in which a huge jellyfish, seahorses, and fishes came to life under ultra violet lighting, used for the first time on the community centre stage. Many people have said it was truly magical and the best pantomime yet!"

The pantomime is such a popular community event that every performance was sold out (and they did one extra performance this year!). Tickets for next year will go all sale in October, so they will be worth getting early!

This traditional community event brings together people of different age groups as cast and crew, and who make lasting friendships.

If you would like to be involved in the Pantomime next year, please contact Brenda.
