Keyhaven Yacht Club hosting The National 2000 Millennium Open Event

Keyhaven Yacht Club are hosting a national open sailing event for 2000 class dinghies (formerly the Laser 2000) which is expected to attract sailors from far and wide.

The 2000 Millennium Open Event on Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th July 2024.

The colourful dinghy floatilla should made a great sight for spectators from the shoreline around Keyhaven Harbour and into The Solent.

Early bird booking is before midnight on 28th June 2024 for £35 per entry, thereafter entry will be £40.

About The 2000

A highly successful dinghy class, the 2000 (formerly the Laser 2000) has active sailing club racing fleets and a full open circuit series plus championships, supported by an enthusiastic Class Association. 

With many features found in modern performance racing classes, such as a gennaker and a self draining cockpit, the 2000 combines exciting sailing and with easy handling that inspires confidence. 

The 2000 sailboat is also well established as a great training boat within many leading organisations including the British Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force sailing programmes. The perfect transition from training into more advanced techniques and racing. New Weekly Sunday Market at The New Forest Emporium

The New Forest Emporium have launched a Sunday Market which will take place Every Sunday from 9.30am to 4pm.

The first Sunday Market takes place in and around their building at New Forest Water Gardens, Newlands Manor Farm on Sunday 23rd June 2024, then every Sunday thereafter.

There will be a variety of stalls to wander around and enjoy, plus of course the cafe should you fancy a breakfast, lunch, or a coffee break with cake.

Summer Fete on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of July 2024.

The New Forest Emporium are inviting local traders, or small businesses, to join in their Summer Markets, and the Summer Fete on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of July 2024.

They are looking for stall holders who sell anything from artisan products, antiques, jewellery, clothes etc., and fun things for kids, such as face painters. 

The New Forest Emporium Summer Fete will be a weekend event where you can pitch up a table and sell your items. There will also be lots of other things taking place for visitors to enjoy at the event.

Meet Matt from Nixor Design & Build

Nixor Design & Build are a reliable & growing construction company based right here in Laundry Lane, in the centre of the Milford on Sea village.

The company consists of a talented team of professional builders and carpenters, led by co-founders Andy Meredith and Steve Hillier.

One of the team, Matt joined the team as a young enthusiastic apprentice seven years ago and he is now Nixor Design & Build's lead carpenter & cut roof specialist. 

Company founders, Andy & Steve are excited to see Matt grow and excel into a managerial role in the future.

Watch Out for Portuguese Man o'War on the beach

New Forest District Council have reported that a Portuguese Man o'War (a jellyfish-like creature) has recently washed ashore at Milford on Sea beach, and more are expected.

NFDC are advising people and their dogs to keep away if you spot any more. 

Swimmers are advised to wear full body suits to protect themselves, while parents taking children or dogs to the beach are warned to exercise "extreme caution".

The Portuguese Man o'War is not actually a jellyfish. It is a colonial hydrozoan. They live on the surface of the open ocean, and can't swim. So, they are at the mercy of the winds, which is why they often end up washed ashore after big storms.

They look like a deflated balloon on sand and in shallow water, and they have tentacles which can deliver severe and painful stings. They can still sting you even weeks after having washed been ashore.

The Portuguese Man o'War is not a new visitor to Milford on Sea, as annual sighting have become quite regular each year. Although, they normally wash up on UK beaches during the autumn months.

Milford on Sea Royal British Legion Branch mark D-Day

Standard Bearers from the Milford on Sea Royal British Legion Branch recently attended three D-Day Memorial Services to mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.

Karan Graham, from the Milford on Sea RBL Women's section, and Paul White from Milford on Sea RBL, paraded the village's RBL Standard at the Memorial Service held at the D-Day Memorial Esplanade in Southsea at 10.45am on Thursday 6th June 2024.

They then attended the Sunset Memorial Service and Beacon Lighting on Lymington Quay.

Finally, on Sunday 9th June 2024 at 10.30am they presented the two standards at the Act of Remembrance at Lepe Beach.

It is nice to see Milford on Sea marking this important occasion, and respectfully remembering all those who fell on D-Day 1944.

New Teamwork Stingo Ale at The Beach House

The Beach House owned by the Badger beer brewer and hotelier, Hall & Woodhouse, have launched a limited-edition beer to celebrate turning 247 years old.

The Teamwork Stingo Ale has a 9%ABV, and is described as a strong ale with warming hints of sherry and port.

The second in the series of Founder's Day beers that celebrate key people from the Hall & Woodhouse history. John and Edward Woodhouse were brothers who brought distinct yet complimentary skills to the important business of brewing characterful ales.

But be quick, because it's only here for a limited time (and as always, please drink responsibly.)
